Red Springs Senior Gets Air Force Academy Nod David E. Humphrey, Jr., a senior at Red Springs Senior High, has received an appointment to the class of 1979 at the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo. Humphrey was nominated by Congressman Charles G. Rose. He is president of R.S. Beta Club, a member of Future Teachers of America and the Monogram Club at school. Humphrey is a bus driver and served as a marshal for the class of 1974. He lettered in track and football. ' A member of the Shannon Volunteer Fire Department, Humphrey attends Antioch Presbyterian Church where he is president of the Youth Group and a choir member. Humphrey attended the 1974 session of the Governors School of North Carolina, majoring in English. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. David E. Humphrey, Sr.,of Rt. 1, Shannon. David Humphrey, Jr. College News Three students from Raeford were graduated from Wake Forest University May 19. They were among more than 900 who received degrees. William Leon Senter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Neil L. Senter of 115 N. Highland St., graduated from the university's School of Law and received the J.D. degree. Michael Riley Jordan, son of Dr. and Mrs. R.M. Jordan of 110 Fulton St., graduated from the Babcock Graduate School of Management and received the master of business administration degree. Ann Hughes Jordan, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Julius Jordan of 315 W. Edinborough St., majored in history and received the B.A. degree. Dazarene Page received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Fayetteville State University. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Page of Rt. 1, Lumber Bridge, graduated from Hoke High in 1970. Three Hoke County students are among the some 2,700 persons who received degrees at North Carolina State University. Susan G. Neeley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Neeley of Rt. 1, earned a masters degree in psychology. Bachelors degrees were awarded to Rebecca A. Howell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Howell, 106 W. Fifth Avenue, in recreation and park administration and Jimmy N. Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. J P. Smith, in civil engineering. Harry Eugene Peele was graduated from Pembroke State University and received his B.A. in history. Peele is the son of Mr. and Mrs. M.V. Peele. Mary Lynn Currie was graduated from Meredith College and received her B.A. in history at commencement exercises May 18. She is the daugrter of Mr. and Mrs James L. Currie of 840 East Prospec Avenue. Catharin Brown Shepard was graduated from Pembroke State University with a bachelor's degree in psychology. Mrs. Shephard achieved a 4.0 grade point average for the winter quarter and was named to the dean's list. She is the daughter of Mrs. Clarence Brown and the late Mr. Brown of Raeford. Field Day Is Planned For Exceptional Children A field day for exceptional children will be held May 28 at Hoke High. In addition to track events, other activities scheduled include an obstacle course, sack races and tug of wars. Next year a Special Olympics is planned, according to Mrs. Betsy Sloan, coordinator for programs for exceptional children. The field day will begin at 9 ajn. and the public is invited. McFadyen, a retired teacher has been appointed Bicentennial Chairperson for the PRIDE IN AMERICA for Hoke County Unit. She wijl collect material for a book about teachers' recollections and experiences while active in the schools of North Carolina. The project is being sponsored by the National Retired Teachers Association and the North Carolina Retired School Personnel. Mrs. McFadyen hopes to provide every retired school person and teacher an opportunity to contribute from his/her recollections and experiences during active school days. Contributions from the area will be collected and edited, then sent to a state editing committee. From these contributions this committee will compile and publish a book for North Carolina to be presented to the Bicentennial Program at the NRTA Convention in May 1976 in Houston, Texas.
