No unusual events at Tabernacle
Church this past Sunday. The Rev.
Carl Strickland, pastor, said the
attendance may have been a little off
Sunday on account of vacation time
and people going to the mountains,
the beaches, etc.
Pittman Grove Church had a singing
at the church Sunday pjn. The
Choraleers took part in the singing.
Galatia Church had a supper
meeting last Wednesday. At this time
Miss Cora Wayland Missionary to
Korea, was the guest speaker.
The G.A. of Tabernacle Church met
with their leaders Sunday night for
recognition and presentation of their
Girls Auxiliary pins.
Guests of Mrs. A.W. Wood, Sunday
afternoon, were Mr. and Mrs. Ronald
Monroe and son, Bryan, of McCain,
Mr. and Mrs. Wilton Wood of Raeford
and Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Monroe.
Birthday
Mrs. C.M. Chason honored her
husband, C.M. Chason, and their
grandson, "Chuck" Chason, with a
family birthday dinner Sunday. Chuck
was 9, and his grandfather 39+. Their
birthdays are near together so the
celebration was between the dates of
each.' Guests were Mr. and Mrs.
Demont Long, Mr. and Mrs. Earl
Chason and children. Chuck and
Jennifer, and Larry Chason was
present. The honorees received gifts
and happy birthday wishes and may
they have many, many more returns of
the day

Cora Mae Jackson, came and took her
mother and Miss Mary McFadyen to
Ephesus Church, Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Sanderson of
Raeford visited Miss Clara Sanderson
of the Home, Sunday afternoon.
Mrs. Jesse Lee says all the residents
of the Home are doing fine. Mrs. Lee's
granddaughter, Bobbie Joann Bunnell,
had surgery at Rex Hospital, Raleigh,
Monday a.m. She was doing fine at last
account.

was sent in wrong last week.
Birthday
On Thursday, before Mrs. Floyd
Monroe went to Durham for eye
surgery, Mrs. Marshall Newton and her
daughter-in-law, Mrs. E.B. Newton,
invited Mrs. Monroe and 14 of her
friends to a birthday dinner they were
giving for Mrs. Monroe at the K & W
Cafeteria, Fayetteville. It was a
complete surprise to Mrs. Monroe as
they led her to believe they were
taking Mrs. Mary Shewbridge out to
dinner, which was true, but she was
not the honoree. Mrs. Monroe has no
words to express how much she
appreciated this. She was showered
with nice gifts and happy birthday
wishes and may she enjoy many more
happy birthdays at home or abroad,
and with, or without, surprises.
Silver Wedding
Mr. and Mrs. A.M. Grant's
twenty-fifth wedding anniversary was
celebrated at their home last Friday
night. It was a surprise for them,
planned by their daughter, Wanda, and
carried out by her sister, Mrs. Bill
Kennedy, her sister, Mrs. Virginia
Barbour, Mrs. Judy McLaurin and Mrs.
Roy Hayward. It was a floating affair
from eight to ten o'clock, but some
came later. The invitations requested
no gifts, but they received a number of
valuable and useful gifts. Refreshments
were served throughout the evening. It
was a very nice celebration and Mr.
and Mrs. Grant wish to thank all who
participated in planning and working
to have the celebration: also, all who
came to rejoice with them and to wish
them many more years of happy
married life.

Roy Shockley went to Washington,
D.C., Sunday, May 18, for a few days
visit with his brother and sister-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Shockley. While
there he went to Rose Traft, Md., to
see the horse racing. He came home on
Thursday.
Mrs. Henry Fowler went to
Richmond, Va., the past weekend to
visit Mr. and Mrs. Allen Gibson. His
wife is critically ill in a Richmond
Hospital.
Miss Lillie Wood who had surgery at
Betsy Johnson Hospital in Dunn last
Friday, was getting along well for one
of her age at last account.
Mr. and Mrs. Martin Wood's son,
Fred Wood of Greenville, is slowly
improving they are glad to report.

graduation exercises for nurses who
were graduating from FTI at the First
Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville
last Firday night. Their neighbor Mrs.
Michael Sayer was one of the 35
graduates. Congratulations to her and

Elizabeth Bone Memorial Award from Sandhills Community College president

The award and a $50 stipend is given to the graduating nursing student with the
highest scholastic achievement in medical-surgical clinical performance. Nursing

Each year the Students for Action
in Education sponsor a Senior
luncheon. This year the luncheon will
be held Sunday June 1 at 1:00 in the
Gibson Gym. Invitations will be given
out May 27 to all the seniors. The
booklet committee has composed a
senior booklet this year containing
some of the seniors favorite songs,
sayings, pastimes, pet peeves and
ambitions. Also the booklet will
include a sports roster, funny
dictionary and other features.
The S.A.E. club turned in their
scrapbook for Club of the Year
competition. The Club of the Year
award went to the DECA club.
The Hoke High Band presented
their spring concert Thursday night in
the Hoke High Gym. The concert
featured a section call "Fall
Memories." The majorettes and flag
bearers performed while the band was
lead by Drum Majorette Debra
Calloway. The last song of the evening
was dedicated to the seniors.
1975 Baccalaureate and
Commencement Exercises will be held
Sunday June first at 4:00 in the Hoke
High Stadium.
