N 401 Gets Attention Some research on the administrative level has been done on the project to widen U.S. 401 since project was included on the state highway construction program last year. "Researchers have taken a look at it, for such things as possible right of way problems," Highway Commissioner Rex Harris said Tuesday. "But we had to start from scratch, since anything done on it previously was out of date." The project was included on the program last summer but was not funded. Harris said he hoped that before the close of this administration that the project will be far enough along to insure that it won't be cancelled. "It is a priority project," Harris said. "I think we owe it to the citizens, from a point of view of the traffic and the death rate on that road." A meeting of the planning and projects committee will be held soon to discuss updating the state plan, Harris said. However, he said he did not know how that would effect the 401 project. SEMINAR -"When we start talking to each other, the barriers do come up," Capt. Andrew Malloy (center) tells a group of Tarheel Guardsmen involved in a human relations seminar while at Ft. Bragg for training. The seminar is part of a program unique to the N.C. National Guard to develop "Unity Through Understanding. "(N.C. ARNG Photo) N.C. Guardsmen Participate In Human Relations Course "If you leave here feeling good about what we did, then it was a profitable session," Capt. Andrew Malloy told the Tarheel Guardsmen participating in a Human Relations seminar here. The seminars are part of a program, unique to North Carolina, Two Sought In Rape Authorities are seeking two men in connection with the Thursday rape of a Dillon, S.C., woman here in a rural area near the Robeson county line. Deputy Harvey Young reported the woman, Carolyn Williams, told him she was hitchiking from Fayetteville to her home in Dillon and accepted a ride with two men described as blacks in their early 20's. The driver turned off 1-95 near St. Pauls, and the woman was driven to a dirt road off of RPR 1108 near the county line and raped by the driver at about 5:45 p.m., according to the report filed. The woman was taken to the Red Springs police department where Hoke county authorities were notified. She was transported to Moore Memorial Hospital in Pinehurst and refused an examination. Young ,^id, and Deputy George McGuire transported her to Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville where she was examined and treated. No arrests have been made and an investigation is continuing. Swim Camp Dates Set The Hoke County recreation department. Girl Scouts, and the 35th Signal Group, Ft. Bragg, are sponsoring a swimming camp for boys and girls aged six through twelve. Caesar Patterson, 91, the woman's grandfather, told deputies he struggled with his granddaughter over a .22 caliber rifle and the gun went off, hitting her. Coroner G. Franklin Crumpler is expected to select a six member jury before proceedings begin at 7:30. Twelve persons have been summoned for jury duty. that has attracted the attention of the National Guard Bureau in Washington, D.C. This phase has been observed by Capt. Ezell Ware, a California Guardsman on temporary duty with the Army's Personnel and Administration Combat Development Center at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Id. "I'm here to see how much of the North Carolina program can be incorporated in a national program for Reserve and National Guard units," he said. Capt. Ware is particularly interested in a 120-hour course for volunteer Guardsmen to "increase their level of human awareness and aid commanders in overcoming human relations problems." The Human Resources course was developed by personnel in the North Carolina office, to increase the number of people with training to deal with these problems and to aid local commanders. The first phase of the course began in March 1974 at Fort Bragg with 20 Guardsmen from all sections of the state. The final 80 hour phase of the course is being conducted at Ft.
