Curious Ceorge story hour every Tuesday morning beginning July 1 at 10:00 A.M. Also grades two - six come and register to read. Ask for books on the special list for a reading certificate. This time next week we will be in the Sandhill Regional Library Program. We are looking forward to this and will probably be making some changes in our overall system; we hope for better service to you. First Melons Are Reported Rtpe watermelons have been reported in the county by Willie McPhaul of the South Hoke area. McPhaul. who stakes his claim to the first ripe melons in the county, on June 30. This is slightly later than other years, he said, when he has had ripe watermelons by June 27. "But that's okay." McPhaul said. Hoke Teacher Ends Course Margorie Foster of Hoke County has completed a food service workshop for home economics teachers at East Carolina University. The workshop, held June 1 2 - 20, was designed to help teachers to instruct saleable skills related to food service. ARSON - Damage to this barn was placed at $5,000 following a fire June 21 on the Rockfish and Arabia Road, which is being investigated by deputies as an arson. New Address - Notify DMV Motor Vehicles Commissioner Edward L. Powell reminded motorists that effective 1 July, legislation has enacted which affects North Carolina drivers applying for a change of address. The new legislation requires persons holding North Carolina driver's license to notify the Division of Motor Vehicles of any address change within 60 days after such a change is made. Commissioner Powell advised that for drivers with an address change, it will be^ necessary to appear in person at any driver license office to obtain a duplicate license showing the change of address.
