Rockfish News By Mrs. A. A. Mclnnis Tabernacle Church has recently ?received many new members, some by letter and others on profession of faith and baptism. Revival closed at Pittman Grove Church Friday night, after a week of good preaching and singing and prayer. No new members were received into the church, but they feel that the whole community was revived. A large crowd attended the Homecoming at this church Sunday. The Rev. E.C. Taylor, a former pastor who was there for many years, conducted the morning worship service. The dinner was served in the fellowship hall and it was all a success. Deacons of the church met in the afternoon, but the singers who were expected didn't get there, so there was no afternoon singing. Birthdays The birthdays of Roscoe Bundy and his father, L.B. Bundy, were celebrated last Saturday evening at Rockfish Community House with a big birthday dinner. All, or nearly all, of Mr. and Mrs. L.B. Bundy's children, grand and # great grandchildren were present. The bountiful dinner was served picnic style with birthday cake and accessories. It was a joyful time for all. The honorecs received many nice ? gifts and may they both have many, many more happy birthdays. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Gibson and Mr. and Mrs. David Gibson and families of Shelby spent some time with their mother, Mrs. R.H. Gibson, and other relatives last week. Mrs. Johnny Allen and daughter Teresa spent the weekend with Shirley and Sandra Allen of Charleston, S.C. Mrs. Henry Fowler and daughter Kathy visited Mrs. Pearl Phillips and Miss Irene Phillips of Buie, Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Gibson and Mrs. Jim Forney of Miami, Fla., visited Mrs. R.H. Gibson Sunday p.m. on their way to Virginia and other northern states. Guests of Mrs. Sue Raybon last Sunday afternoon were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Robinson of Dublin and granddaughter Jean Robinson of Fayetteville. Sorry to report that Mrs. Nelia Brock accidentally fell at her home one day last week and suffered a crushed shoulder. She was doing very well at last account. Mr. and Mrs. B.B. Bostic spent last Wednesday with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cameron of Carolina Beach. Cam Miller, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Fred . Cameron came home with them and is visiting around with other members of the Townsend family. Mr. and Mrs. Michael Reynolds and son "Tony" of Aberdeen visited his parents the past weekend and attended services at Galatia Church Sunday morning. Miss Mary Priest. Mrs. Odell Quick and Mrs. A.A. Mclnnis visited William Culbrcth, Mrs. Quick's brother, at the Adcox Rest Home last Tuesday. William is completely blind and can't hear well, but he can be 'oiled out in a wheelchair and he enjoys visitors. Some others they saw were Mrs. James Livingston and Mrs. Nelia Dale. Mike Mattlock, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Mattlock of San Bernardino, Calif., visited Mr. and Mrs. T.C. Jones, Roy Jones and Barbara, Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Gaddis and sons Ricky, Tom and Danny, and as many of his old friends as he had time to. He was here from July 3rd to 9th and Ricky Gaddis went home with him and will go from there to Kansas, where he will visit his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Alice DuBois. Mrs. Ellis Prevatte of Lumberton visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Hardin last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Bundy of Route 3, Fayetteville, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. William Wright Sunday p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Turner and sons Robert and Curtis were dinner guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Beasley of Bonnie Doone, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin English and children Sandra and Michael of Moorehead City spent Saturday night with his parents Mr. and Mrs. P.C. English and Mrs. Ruth Willis spent Saturday night with Mrs. Floyd Monroe. They all returned to Moorehead City Sunday morning. Mrs. Wallace McLean of Raeford spent last Friday with Mr. and Mrs. Martin Wood. Mr. and Mrs. James Wright of Birmingham Ala. visited his sisters and their families, Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Bundy and Mr. and Mrs. E.T. Brock last Friday and Saturday enroute home after visiting Mr. and Mrs. E.R. Brown and Mrs. Mary Savage of Raleigh and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Yeargan and children of Durham. Mrs. A.W. Wood was a dinner guest of the Wilton Wood family in Raeford Sunday. Mrs. R.V. Page of Wilmington was also one of their guests. Reunion Some of the descendents of the late Mr. and Mrs. Claude Wood gathered at Baden Lake last Sunday for a family reunion picnic dinner and a good time together. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. O.L. Wood, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wood and children, Mr. and Mrs. Worth Wood and children, Mr. and Mrs. Earl McKinnon, Mrs. Bill Thames and children, Mrs. Wilbur Calcutt and children, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Pemberton and children. It was rainy but the Pemberton's cottage took care of that and the day was enjoyed by all. Mr. and Mrs. E. Emmons attended a birthday celebration for her sister, Mrs. Esther Mae Britt of Lumberton, held at the Bananda Inn. It was a family gathering of about 20, and may Mrs. Britt have many more happy birthdays. Mr. and Mrs. Emmons visited their grandchildren, Larry and Joan Hays, at Bladenboro where they took them to stay with their parents Mr. and Mrs. Larry Hayes and their grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Holloman while Mrs. Emmons goes to Womack Army Hospital for surgery. Dr. and Mrs. Vamik Bombatepe and sons Halis and John of Goldsboro visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lovette of Puppy Creek the past weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Plummer had as their guests last Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde McFadyen and sons David, Michael, and Jerry, of Winston Salem. They were enroute to Carolina Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Davis Parker returned home Sunday p.m. after a trip to Gatlinburg Tenn. from Thursday to Sunday. Their children, Karen and Kirkland, were with them. Comment After a long dry spell, we have had an abundance of rain at Rockfish and if it continues, people may soon b< "wanting what it's not." Permits For Farm Machines On Roads Eliminated Billy Rose, state highway administrator, announced that farmers are no longer required to obtain special permits to move their machinery over state roads, if the equipment to be moved is less than 18 feet wide. The ratification of House Bill 490 eliminates the requirement for special permits for farm equipment and machinery of less than 18 feet. The highway administrator stressed, however, that the equipment still must be moved during daylight hours, and a red flag must be displayed on the front and rear of the equipment. All other requirements for permits to move farm equipment of greater width than 18 feet remain in effect and will be enforced. Rose said.
