In District Court Drunken Drivers Head Docket A number of people were brought before Judge Joseph Dupree in district Court Friday on drunken driving charges, including a man who was charged with a fifth offense and received a suspended sentence and a Fine. Joe Alexander Wilson, Rt. 3 Raeford, pleaded guilty to DU1 (Fifth offense) and was sentenced to two years, suspended for five years and placed on probation for five years on condition that he not drive until licensed to do so and pay S500 and costs. Larry Edward Floyd, Rt. 9, Lumberton, pleaded guilty to DU1 and driving while license was revoked and was sentenced to 18 months, suspended for three and one half years, and was placed on probation for three and one half years on condition that he not drive until liscensed to do so and pay $400 fine and costs. Blood alcohol content was .07 according to records. John Charles McNeill, Rt. 1 Wagram, pleaded guilty to DUl and public drunkenness and was sentenced to 90 days, suspended for 12 months on condition that he not ^rive for 12 months and pay $150 and costs. . , Harold Woods, Rt. 1, Pembroke, pleaded guilty to careless and wteckless driving as the state took a voluntary dismissal on charges of speeding 77 in a 55 niph /.one. He was fined $25 and costs. Jack McGregor, 504 Forrest St., Raeford, pleaded guilty to false registration plate and no financial responsibilty and was found not guilty of driving without a license. He was sentenced to 60 days, suspended for two years on condition thai he pay $50 and costs. James Clark, Ft. Bragg, pleaded guilty to speeding 88 in a 55 mph zone and was sentenced to 60 days, suspended on condition that he pay $50 and costs. Frederick Charles Karam, Hampton, Va.. pleaded guilty to speeding 81 in a 55 mph zone and was sentenced to 60 days, suspended on condition that he pay $50 and costs. Jerry Roscoc Bratcher, Jr., pleaded guilty to careless and reckless driving and prayer for judgment was continued for two years as he was Fined costs. Joseph R. Thornton, inmate at Sandhill Youth Center, pleaded guilty to felonious breaking and entering and injury to personal property and was sentenced to two years suspended, jle was placed on probation to continue as he serves his present sentence and was Fined $500 restitution and costs. For good cause Siown, costs were remitted. Berry R. Brown. Ft. Bragg, pleaded guilty to driving without a license, improper registration, and no financial responsibility and was sentenced to 60 days, suspended on condition that he pay $50 and costs. Major John McQueen, Ft. Lee Virginia, pleaded guilty to DUl. anil driving while his license was revoked and a passing violation and was sentenced to 12 months. Blood alcohol content was .16, according to records. Roger Robinson. Grant St.. Raeford. pleaded guilty to larceny and was sentenced to not less than one day and not more than two years. FayetteviUe. pleaded no contest to worthless check and was ordered to pay S 146.48 restitution to Paul Solomon and costs. Allen Scott. Rt. 4. Red Sptings, pleaded guilty to DUI (third offense) as the state dropped a charge of driving while his license was revoked and was sentenced to 12 months, a notice of appeal was given and bond was set at S750. William Carl Mcllwain. Red Springs, pleaded guilty to DUI and was sentenced to 90 days, suspended on condition Uiat he pay $150 and 'costs and not drive for 12 months except for limited driving privileges. Blood alcohol content was .27. according to records. Dannie Hue Rogers. Laurinburg. pleaded guilty to speeding 87 in a 55 mph zone and was fined $50 and costs. Earl David Sprouse. Rl. 5 Cander. pleaded gudty to DUI and was sentenced to 90 days, suspended on condition that he not drive for 12 months and pay $ 150 and costs. Rodney John Kline. Ft. Bragg, pleaded gudty to inspection violation and was fined costs. William Wade Driver, FayetteviUe, pleaded gudty to DUI and was sentenced to six months, suspended for 12 monUis on condition that he pay $200 and costs and not drive for 12 mondis. Goetz Willi Reinbold, Charlotte, pleaded gudty to speeding 67 in a 55 mph zone and prayer for judgment was continued for two years on condition that he pay costs. Henry Louis McLaughlin, P.O. Box 825, Raeford. pleaded gudty to speeding 65 in a 55 mph zone and was sentenced to 30 days, suspended on condition that he pay SS and costs. Ricky Singletary, Rt. I, Raeford, pleaded guilty to unsafe speed and was fined costs. Lanel Jacobs, Red Springs, entered a plea of guilty to DUI and reckless driving and was sentenced to six months, suspended lor 12 montnson condition that he not drive for 12 months and pay S200 and costs. Blood alcohol content was .11, according to records. Lee C. McCollum, Brooklyn, N.Y., pleaded guilty to DUI and speeding 66 in a SS mph zone and was sentenced to 90 days, suspended for 12 months on condition that he not drive for 12 months and pay $150 and costs. Blood alcohol content was .27, according to records. Dorsie Wayne Carter, Red Springs, pleaded guilty to speeding 70 in a 55 mph zone and was fined $10 and costs. Fred C. Owenby, Fayetteville, pleaded guilty to a passing violation and prayer for judgment was continued. Leon Cummings, FayettevUle, pleaded guilty to DUI and was sentenced to 90 days, suspended for 12 months, on condition that he not drive for 12 months except for limited privileges and pay SI SO and costs. James William Cole, Hamlet, pleaded guilty to reckless driving as the state dropped a charge of DUI and was sentenced to 60 days, suspended on condition that he pay SI00 and costs. Johnny Lytch, Fayetteville, was found guilty of speeding 70 in a 55 mph zone and prayer for judgment was continued on condition of payment of costs. David Franklin Futral, Cameron, pleaded guilty to reckless driving and was sentenced to 60 days, suspended on condition that he pay SI00 and costs. David Wayne Tesh, Greensboro, pleaded guilty to speeding 65 in a 55 mph zone and prayer for judgment was continued on condition that costs were paid. Mallie Graham, Rt. 3, Raeford, was found not guilty of assault by pointing a gun and trespassing. Deaths And Funerals Joe E. Lovette Funeral services for Joe E. Lovette were conducted Saturday at 4 P.M. in Parkers Methodist Church with Rev. Gordon Ruggles officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Lovette, 67, died Thursday at Veterans Hospital. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Alma Parker Lovette; two daughters, Mrs. Betty Bombatete of Goldsboro and Mrs. Alma Lee Simpson of Raeford; one son, Sidney Lovette of Fayetteville; two sisters, Mrs. Mattie AUred of Randleman and Mrs. Ruby Lytch of Thomasville; two brothers, James Lovette and Roy Lovette, both of Dinton; and seven grand children. Marshall C. Almond Funeral services for Marshall Crowell Almond were held Wednesday, Aug. 27 at the Ashley Heights Baptist Church. Almond, 68, died Aug 25 at his home in Ashley Heights. He is survived by his wife, Alice Strother Almond; two sons, Winfred C Almond of Raleigh and Jan G. Almond of Rt. 1, Aberdeen; two daughters. Mrs. Arnold H. Stell of Greensboro and Mrs. William C. Hodgin, Jr.. of Oxford; nine grandchildren; six brothers; and two sisters. College News Sarah McPhaul McNeil! received her master of education degree during summer commencement exercises at die University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Miss Sherry J. Shepley has begun studies toward a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy at the School of Pharmacy at die University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Miss Shepley is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Shepley. Rt. 2. Raeford. Mrs. Mary Caulder Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Caulder were held Sunday at 3 P.M. in Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Highland Biblical Gardens. Mrs. Caulder, 87, died Friday. Surviving are two sons, Thad Caulder of Red Springs and Jess Hayes of Raeford; five daughters, Mrs. Beadie Smith of Lumberton, Mrs. Rosie Baker of Raleigh, Mrs. Ida Wilkerson of White Oak, and Mrs. Elizabeth Caulder and Mrs. Lucille Honeycutt, both of Raeford; 24 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchil dren; and 22 great-great-grandchil dren. Ronald Jan Chason, Rt. I, Lumber Bridge, pleaded guilty to driving whfle his license was revoked and driving on a license from another state and was sentenced to two years suspended for three and on half years. He was placed on probation for three and one half years on condition that he not drive until licensed to do so, and pay S7S0 and costs. County Planning Survey Done Under Grant A land use survey made possible under a grant from die Department of Natural and Economic Resources will be done for Hoke County during C Of c Views Projects Chamber of Commerce directors met Tuesday and were told 90 per cent of the Chamber membership has renewed, according to manager Julian H. (Buddy) Blue. The board discussed plans for projects, including a comprehensive study of health care needs for the county and exploring tire possibility of obtaining extended area telephone service. The board agreed to sponsor a supper for members of the Fireman's Association in connection with Fire Prevention Week in October. Blue said an industrial development sales team is also in the planning stages. The team would be trained by the Department of Commerce and Industry. Plans for publication of a visitor's map to the city were also discussed. the next 12 months to assist in long range planning for orderly growth. James H. Dougherty, 25, who received, his masters degree in city planning from Ohio State University in June, is in charge of the project. Dougherty will be studying population, employment, industrial sites, and other statistical data for long-term recommendations on land use and development for the future. The county contributed $3,200 in matching funds for the $4,800grant. Dougherty received his B.A. degree from Morehead State University in 1971. He has previously worked as a program and activities planner for a Columbus, Ohio day care center and as an examiner for the state auditor's office in Ohio. He is an associate member of the American Institute of Planners.
