Rock fish News by Mrs. A A. Mclnnis No news from Tabernacle or Pittman Grove Churches. Both churches had the regular services, with very good attendance last Sunday. Homecoming at Parker Church will be September 28th with the former pastor the Rev. N.P. Edens speaker at the eleven o'clock service, with a picnic dinner following. Former members and visitors will be welcome. Come and bring a basket. Galatia Church is planning for the fall Sunday School Rally Sept. 28th Mrs. W.A. Fowler spent the weekend with Mr and Mrs. Oliver Powers of Rennert. Mr. and Mrs. Tracy Garner of Carthage visited her mother, Mrs. R.H. Gibson Sunday. Mrs. D.J. Norton of Fayetteville was a guest of Mrs. R.H. Gibson Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Smith of Granite Falls spent the weekend with Mrs. Henry Fowler and daughter, Carol. Mrs. E.E. Emmons had no news Monday except one of their dogs was missing. The dog was there Sunday morning when they went to church and when they got back home she was gone. It's a time in this country when you can't even go to church without some rogues coming in before you get back home, and this is not the first dog they have lost since living here. Mr. Henry Fowler and Mrs. R.V. Tanner and Mrs. Johnny Allen attended the Todd ? Livingston wedding at Red Springs Saturday p.m. Mrs. M.S. Gibson and daughter, Joy, spent last Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Paul McNeill and daughter, Paula, of Durham. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kelly of Wilmington visited her mother, Mrs. Ethel D. Gibson Wednesday. Mrs. W.H. Schell and Mrs. Virginia Bounds visited their sister Mrs. Ethel D. Gibson Friday. Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Wood and Mr. and Mrs. Martin Wood spent last Thursday with Mrs. Wallace McLean of Raeford. Mrs. Buddy Dunn and baby daughter, Amy, of Raeford visited her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Wood Monday. Mrs. Thomas Russell of Rocky Mount and her sister Mrs Marv Mclnnis spent last Saturday with their sisters Mrs. J.D. Mclnnis, and Misses Carrie and Margaret Smith of Wagram. Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Wood, Jr., left last Friday and traveled along die coast of North Carolina to Manteo where they toured the beautiful gardens and went up into Virginia. They got home Sunday p.m. after having a very nice trip. Jena and Randy stayed with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Wood while their parents were away. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Heath visited their son and daughter - in ? law. Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Heath of Charlotte last Sunday. They were well and getting along fine. CLUB MEETS Rockfish Extension Homemakers Club will meet on Monday next week with Mrs. George Monroe hostess. As far as we know now the meeting will be at Mrs. Monroes home. The Raeford Chapter of W.D.C. met last Friday p.m. with Mrs. Floyd Monroe with ten members present. Mr. and Mrs. John Baker of Vass, were guests of Mrs. Floyd Monroe last week from Tuesday to Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Marion English and children. Sandra and Michael visited Mr. and Mrs. P.C. English the past weekend, part of the time one of them was here with his father and one of them at Moore Memorial Hospital with his mother who has been a patient there since Monday of last week. Mrs. Demont Long who has been a patient at Cape Fear Valley Hospital for some time was improving at last account and her family hope that she will get home the last of this week. Mrs. C.M. Chason's brother. Wilson Sessoms of Glenn Burnie, Md? came Wednesday and stayed until Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. C M. Chason and family, Mrs. Dewey Sessoms, his sister. Miss Mary Sessoms and other relatives and friends that he could see on a short REUNION At first there was no news from Pittman Grove Church but later the Pittman Family Reunion was reported at Pittman Grove Church. There was a large crowd and big picnic dinner served in the Fellowship Hall. But die feasting didn't keep them from having a good time singing in the Sanctuary in tire afternoon. Long live the Pittinan family and may they have many more grand reunions. REUNION The Bundy Family Reunion was held at Cumberland Park last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. L.B. Bundy and most of their children, grand and great grandchildren, and the in - laws were there, and many of L.B. Bundy's relatives of Cumberland County were present. It was a good place for the big crowd and the picnic dinner, which was bountiful and very good. All who were there seemed to enjoy it very much. It is the time you see some people you don't often see. So may the Bundy trive increase in number and grow in Grace every day and have many more happy reunions. P.S. Their special guests were the Rev. and Mrs. Carl Strickland and daughter, Susan. Miss Ann Riddle of Boone visited Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Plummet and son Steve Plummer the past weekend. Congratulations to Lester Simpson of Wayside. They have recently moved to this county. His wife is the former Alma Lee Lovette, and they and their three children are living near to her mother. Mrs. Joe Lovette of Wayside. The children are Lester III, Douglas and Lisa. The community is glad to have them in theit midst. Mr. and Mrs. David Lancaster and children Brian and Jennifer of Raleigh spent last weekend with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Lancaster and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Smith Mclnnis and her grandmother Mrs. Jim Maxwell. They also spent a short time with Mr. and Mrs. Billy Posey, while here Sunday. Well now we have had both, what else can we wish lor'' Maybe a little more of each. Club Sets Car Wash The Hoke county communications center will host a car wash Saturday. Sept. 20 beginning at 9 A.M. behind Macks Variety in the Edenborough Shopping Center. The cost is SI.25 for car wash, S2 for wash and wax, S3 for wash and interior cleaning, and S3.75 for the works". All proceeds will go towards a communications van for the radio team. The readio team consists ol county CB radio operators and volunteers dedicated to assist with communications in anything trom roadside emergencies to national disaster. They participate in law enforcement and fire and rescue operations only when requested to do so. Anyone interested in joining the communications center should contact John Graves at 8754717. READ THE WANT ADS Grant Award Continues The Hoke County Association for the Developmentally Disabled has been awarded a $12,935 grant for the operation of their day care center for disabled children, according to an announcement from Gov. Jim Holshouser. The grant is under the Disabilities Service and Facilities Construction Act (DDSA). A total of S 102,870 was awarded for six continuing programs in south central North Carolina. In addition to the continuing programs, two state agencies have been given new grants totaling $124,292. The N.C. Division of Vocational Rehabilitation received a S69.784 grant for counseling follow-along, and information and referral for the severely handicapped and epileptics. The N.C. Division of Health Services was awarded a $54,508 planning grant to determine services needed by individuals suspected of having epileptic, neurological or sensory disorders. These grants are part of a S462.568 total allocation for the state and are administered by the Department of Human Resources.
