Mrs. Carlton Niven, Social Reporter, 875-3785 Walker - Hair Wedding Mrs. Mark David Walker Miss Barbara Geraldine Hair, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Lacy Hair of Winston- Salem, and Mark David Walker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Walker of Winston-Salem, were united in marriage Saturday, September 20, at 7:00 p.m., at Union Ridge United Methodist Church, Winston-Salem. The Rev. Dwight Mashburn officiated at the double ring ceremony. The bride is the granddaughter of Mrs. W.M. Hair of Raeford. Wedding music was furnished by Mrs. Coy McCollum, organist. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a formal gown of white silk organza and imported Chantilly lace, made with fitted bodice adorned with seed pearls and flowing skirt extending into a long train. She wore a full - length veil of matching organza and lace, and carried an old - fashioned bouquet of yellow rosebuds, white carnations and stephanotis. Matron of honor was Mrs. Elizabeth Lunsford of Kingsport, Tenn., sister of the bride. She wore a yellow flocked crepe dress trimmed with green velvet ribbon, and carried a bouquet of daisies and pink, yellow and blue carnations. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Debbie Leonard and Miss Janet Murphy. Their dresses and flowers were identical to those of the honor attendant. Mr. Walker attended his son as best man. Ushers were Dennis Walker Jr. of Winston - Salem, brother of the bridegroom, and Richard Collins of Chester, S.C. After a wedding trip the couple will live in Winston-Salem where Mr. Walker is employed by Douglas Battery Company. Mrs. Walker is employed by Salem Paper Company. Among the out of town guests were Mrs. W.M. Hair, Mrs. Henrietta Tanner, Mrs. Marie Fowler and Miss Kathy Fowler, all of Raeford. Dhuge Mrs Scarborough Mrs. Colon Scarborough was hostess to her bridge club Tuesday evening of last week. She served a dessert course when guests arrived. Mrs. R.A. Matheson won the high schore prize and Mrs. Duncan McFadyen, a visitor, was remembered with a gift. Mrs Bernhardt Mrs. Gilbert Bernhardt entertained bridge club members and one visitor, Mrs. Eugene Carter, last Tuesday evening at her home on Pinewood Circle. She served dessert before the game and snacks and Cokes during play. Prizes went to Mrs. Jerry Jordan for high schore, to Mrs. Hank Richards for second high and to Mrs. Carter for consolation. Mrs McNeill Members of her bridge club and three visitors, Mrs. Wendell Young, Mrs. David S. Currie and Mrs. Earl Gordon, met with Mrs. John K. McNeill Jr. Tuesday evening of last week. She served refreshments when guests arrived. Miss Ellen Currie won the club prize and Mrs. Currie was winner of the visitor's prize. Mrs Wilburn Mrs. Carroll Wilburn was bridge club hostess Thursday night. Mrs. David Scott Currie and Mrs. Leonard Frahm were visitors. The hostess served homemade ice cream before the game and nuts, candies and Cokes during the evening. Mrs. Bcnnie Kelly won the high score prize and Mrs. Currie was winner of the bingo award. The consolation gift went to Mrs. Earl Gordon. Binnuoy Lisa Carol Smith Lisa Carol Smith had a party Sunday to celebrate her tenth birthday. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donnie Smith Jr. Cake, ice cream, chips and Cokes were served. Personals Mrs. L.F. Bass returned home Sunday from a vacation at the beach where site was joined by relatives from Wilmington. Weekend guests of Freddie O'Neal were his parents. Mr. and Mis. George O'Neal, and his brother Al, all of Engelhard. Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Niven spent the weekend in Boone with their daughter, Caroline. They were joined by Carlton Jr. of Brevard. Mr. and Mrs. John W. MePhaul and Mr. and Mrs. Dick Neeley have returned from a vacation at Nags Head. Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Harris left Monday for Roxboro to visit his mother, Mrs. W W. Harris, who is in Person County Mem. Hospital. Mrs. Graham Dickson of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., was weekend guest of Mrs. William Lamont and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Dickson. Mr. and Mrs. H.T. Bundy spent the day Sunday in Raleigh, visiting her brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. A.H. Britt - McPhaul Mr. and Mrs. James Theodore Britt of Red Springs, announce the engagement of their daughter, Elizabeth Jean, to William Joseph McPhaul who is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Leroy McPhaul of Red Springs. Miss Britt is a graduate of Red Springs High School and is attending Pembroke State University. Mr. McPhaul attended East Carolina University and Pembroke Stale University and is employed by Red Springs Motors. Inc. The wedding is planned for Thursday, November 27th at three in the afternoon at Trinity Unilied Methodist Church in Red Springs Enrollment Freeze, Appalaehian State Appalachian State University will not admit new students for its spring semester due to a capacity enrollment this fall, according to C M. Gilstrap. director of admissions at Appalachian. Gilstrap said that Appalachian would continue to receive and admit for the spring semester applications from graduate students, transfers completing college parallel programs at community or junior colleges, and previously enrolled ASU students who apply for readtnission. Gilstrap said that the university also would honor committments to some 50 entering freshmen and transfers who applications are pending. "We are over enrolled, our faculty is overloaded, and we are faced with budget limitations in our state funding," Gilstrap said. Appalachian is receiving state funds based on a full time enrollment of 7,250 students. Preliminary full time enrollment for the fall semester is expected to be about 7.100 and the preliminary resident enrollment is 8.414. UDC Meets With Mrs Monroe Mrs. Floyd Monroe was hostess Friday afternoon for the September meeting of the Raeford Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Mrs. J.L. Warner presented a program on Engineers of the Confederacy. Mrs. Kate B. Covington read. Early School Days of John Charles McNeill, written by Mrs. Mary Watson Powers, a former teacher at Raeford Institute. McNeill's poem, October, was read by Mrs. Glenn Wood. Members discussed plans for their duties as one of the host chapters for the 79th annual convention to be held October 7-9, at Bordeaux Convention Center in Fayetteville. Miss Fosterling is a 1172 graduate of Hoke County High School. She attended Western Cantlina University for two years and is presently a senior at Fast Carolina University. Mr. Fanner, a 1971 graduate of Hoke County High School, served in the U.S. Anny with the 5th Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg, and is now attending Pitt Technical Institute in Greenville.
