'Strong' Sanford Cited by Mike Steadman 'They're strong and a team that doesn't make many mistakes," said Hoke High Coach Bill Cameron about conference power Sanford Central, Hoke's next opponent. "Our job this week will be to polish up our offense and defense and get ready for them," he said. Cameron siad that he planned no changes offensively and maybe a couple changes on defense. He said Sanford runs out of the i', the wing T and the slot T and their execution has been perfected. He also indicated that they were a large team. 'They're pretty good size kids," said Cameron. Sanford is undefeated for the season with a 3-0 record and is considered to be the top team in the region by some. Hoke has won two of three games with their only loss coming from one of the top 3-A teams in the state, Southern Durham by a 14-7 score. "A comment was made to one of our coaches to the effect that if we couldn't play any better against Red Springs than we did, then it wasn't any use in them (Sanford) coming down here," said Cameron. "The game will depend on how many mistakes arc made. Sanford's first three opponents have made mistakes and they capitalized on them. They just don't make many mistakes," Cameron said. Cameron said the main things for the game was for Hoke to play good defense and to move the ball on offense. "We can't run the ball three plays and punt. That's what other teams have done and lost. We've got to move the ball in order to win," he said. "We'll go into the game with a positive attitude," said Cameron, "We can stay in tire game if we don't make mistakes." Colston said that Kathy had been practicing hard for two weeks. "She's been practicing hard and has been jumping as well as she has ever jumped, and 1 hope she will continue to do well as she has in the past," said Colston. Colston said that Kathy's training varied and that on some days she jumps a set mark such as 300 feet or takes 20 jumps. He said that other days she . jogs or runs 40 and 100-yard wind sprints to build her strength. "I don't think she's reached her potential yet, she's young and she'll still get stronger and faster," said Colston. Colston pointed to Martha Watson as being Kathy's main competition. He said that Cuba had a girl who might be tough also. He indicated that since it was team competition, Kathy would be pulling for Martha Watson also, but she also will be going for an indiviual best. "She's after whomever has the best jump," said Colston. College News Leopold K.
