Mrs. Carlton Niven, Social Reporter, 875-3785 Ratley - Marley Vows Spoken In Lumber Bridge Miss Elizabeth Haywood Marley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ellis Marley, became the bride of James Stephen Ratley, son of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Ratley, at 2 p.m. Sunday in a double ring ceremony at the home of the bride in Lumber Bridge. The Rev. Carl Strickland officiated and wedding music was presented by Miss Lena Marley, pianist, aunt of the bride. Given in marriage by ther brother, Walter Ellis Marley 111, the bride wore a gown of white organza over taffeta with chantilly lace, featuring a Victorian neckline, bishop sleeves, and attached watteau chapel length train. The bodicc was enhanced with sequin motifs on the front with borders of lace down the front and the train. Her hadpiece was a camelot cap which held a floor length, lace ? trimmed veil. She carried a cascade bfcuquet of pink roses, miniature carnations and babies' breath. Mrs. Daniel Ratley, sister ? in ? law of the bridegroom, was the bride's only attendant. She wore a gown of dusty pink made with long sleeves, high Victorian neckline, and a sash at the waist. She carried a nosegay of white carnations and babies' breath. William J. Ratley was his son's best man. Mrs. Walter Marley, mother of the bride, was attired in a beige dress with matching accessories. She wore a cymbidium orchid. Mrs. William Ratley, mother of the bridegroom, wore a light pink dress with matching accessories. Her corsage was a cymbidium orchid with a pink throat. Following the ceremony the bride's parents entertained with a reception in the home. The table was covered with a white Irish linen hemstitched cloth made by the bride's grandmother. The three - tiered wedding cake, accented with pink flowers and wedding bells was served by Mrs. Heman Hall after the first slice was cut by the bridal couple. Miss Karen Winn of Raleigh served punch from a silver punch bowl. The newlyweds left for a ?honeymoon in the mountains of North Carolina. For her wedding trip the bride wore a gray pants suit with matching accessories. The bride is a 1973 graduate of Jled Springs High School. She attended Hardbargers Business College and graduated from King's College in Raleigh. Her.husband ts a 1972 graduate of Millbrook High School in Raleigh and they arc both associated with his father in business. ^7 N Births Dr. and Mrs. Robert I. Kurtz of Olney, Md? announce the birth of a son, Robert Quinn.on Sept. 10. Mrs. Kurtz is the former Sally Ann Roach, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dan C. Roach of Laurinburg, formerly of Hoke County. Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Brandt announce the birth of a daughter. Shelly Anne, on Sept. 21, at Moore Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Branch is the former Brenda Davis. Co-hostesses will be Mrs. N.H.G. Balfour of the Education Dept. and Mrs. Gene Carter and Mrs. Hubert Cameron of the Arts Dept. Frances B. Floore of Chapel Hill, author and social consultant at Duke University, will give a review of her book. Miss Floore is a graduate of Battle Creek College in Michigan and served her dietetic internship at Anker Hospital in St. Paul, Minn. She was direcior of dietetics for 11 years at St. Luke's 650 bed hospital in Chicago. She served with Eastman Kodak and during this period offered her services to the United Nations Rehabilitation and Relief Assn. Her recently published book, The Bread of the Oppressed, is a recount of her experiences in the Middle East, Greece and Germany under the IRO. She recalls the UN's massive humanitarian effort to feed starving populations after World War II. After the United Nations years. Miss Floore was consulting deititian to the State Board of Health. She has served for the past five years as consultant to President and Mrs. Terry Sanford for the official entertaining at Duke University. The Garden Department will meet Tuesday, October 7, at 7:45 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Harvey VVarlick. Mrs. A.J. Christopher and Mrs. Dan McGougan will be associate hostesses. Maxwell Reunion The family of the late Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Maxwell held a reunion last weekend at Holden Beach. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Maxwell. Arthur Guin held its fourth family reunion at Philippi Presbyterian Church last Sunday with 45 members present. Mrs. Libby Stevens was recognized as the oldest member present, for coming the greatest distance, and for having the most members present from her family. During the brief program held after lunch, a memorial prayer and poem were given for Dan Guin and Ethel Gillis who had passed away since the last reunion.
