County and grower Younger Snead , Sr., displayed the fruit to a skeptical
photographer Monday. Snead started the plant believed to be the only one of
its kind growing in the county.

The Homecoming at the Baptist
Church Sunday began with a large
crowd attending Sunday School. The
guest speaker, a former pastor.
Reverend Stewart A. Smith, pastor
of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.
Fayetteville. N.C. Welcome and
announcements by S.F. Amnions and
Mrs. Sandy Britt McMillan of
Whiteville gave the response. The
guests were greeted by Mr. and Mrs.
S.E. Sumner.
Everyone enjoyed the dinner
served "on the ground" of the
Educational Building.
Mr. and Mrs. D.A. Livingston and
Mrs. Janie Furmage of Fayetteville
attended the Homecoming.
Miss Julia Tolar of Laurinburg
visited her sister. Mrs. Gilmer Forbes
and Aunt, Mrs. A.F. Tolar Sunday.
Miss Wanda Amnions of Campbell
College spent the weekend with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. S.F. Ammons.
Mr. and Mrs. John Gardner and
daughters. Susan and Sharon of
Lumberton visited her family - Mr.

Hunter Forbes has not been able
to return home from Southeastern
Memorial He has been a patient
there for past three weeks.

Fish Fry
The men of the Lumber Bridge
Volunteer Fire Department served a
fish dinner Saturday night to the
Ladies Auxiliary. A large crowd
attended and the meal was really a
treat.

Revival Services from October 20th
through October 26th. Former
Pastor, Rev. Winford Turner Pastor
of Amity Baptist Church of Denver,
conducting. Special singing was by
Mr. and Mrs. Page and Mrs. Barbara
Jackson. Homecoming dinner was
served on the grounds following
Sunday services.
Services were taped by Johnny
Graves each night for Mrs. Stanley
Crawley. Mrs. Raz Ellis, and other
elderly and shutins.

Meet Nov. 4
The Raeford Senior Citizens
Friendship Club will meet at the
Raeford Methodist Church at 2:30
P.M. Tuesday. Nov. 4.
The Rev. George Cheney will
speak on "Values Grandparents
Have To Give". Each member is
asked to bring a very old or a
homemade toy to display. Prizes
will be given for the oldest and the
best homemade toy.
Members who were absent or
who forgot to bring a shower gift
for the Vietnamese family are
reminded to bring an item to the
meeting.
Club members who plan to sell
crafts at the crafts sale in Southern
Pines are asked to bring as many of
these items as they can to the club
meeting, so Miss Hall will not have
to collect them.

Mrs. Harold Chason Sr., fell and
broke her wrist last Wednesday. She
is staying with her sister, Mrs. Allic
K. Maxwell while convalescing. Mrs.

Claridy, has been ill. but is feeling
much better.
Mrs. Pat Jackson and children
Becky and Keith, visited her mother,
Mrs. Ressie Pridgen, and attended a
family reunion in St. Pauls, Sunday.
Miss Ida Graves lunched with Mrs.
Nelda Baucom of Raeford
Wednesday. Mrs. Baucom has been
ill.
Mr. and Mrs. James Butler and
son, Donald spent the weekend at
Holden Beach, also Mr. and Mrs.
Bernice Williamson.
Miss Linda Huff, student at East
Carolina College spent the weekend
with her mother, Mrs. Edna Royal of
Rt. 2, Raeford. Miss Huff and Mr.
Robert Pecora were dinner guests of
Misses Ida, Sallie, and Johnny Graves
Saturday evening.
Mrs. Dan Hagan's mother, Mrs.
Hunter Carrol has been ill for the
past week but has improved.
Mr. and Mrs. John W. Butler spent
the weekend at Carolina Beach.

grandson Bill, of Laurinburg visited
Mr. Graves' sisters, and brother

No news from Tabernacle Church
this week except attendance is still
very good at the nuoning and
evening services on Sunday and the
attendance at prayer meeting has
improved in recent weeks.
Harvest Day at Pittman Grove
Church last Sunday was a success in
every way. with a bountiful picnic
dinner, a large crowd, with visitors
from Florida, Pembroke, Apex and
FayetteviUe, and a former pastor the
Rev. C.E. Taylor and his
granddaughter Faye Quick of
Lumber Bridge as their special guests.
The time of services at Parker
Chruch will be changed for the next
two months beginning next Sunday
Nov. 2, and preaching will be at 11
o'clock and Sunday School at 9:45.
The Homecoming at Galatia
Church last Sunday was a success in
every way.

Shaw, Mrs. Ada Jackson and Miss
Clara Sanders and Mrs. Lee's sister,
Mrs. Isabella Edwards, of New Bern
who is visiting Mrs. Lee and a
number of other members of
Whispering Pines Church went to
Dunn to the home of Eddie Hayes,
who has been an invalid for 24 years
to celebrate his birthday with a
dinner and religious services,
including singing and sermon by the
preacher.
After coming home they went to
visit Mr. and Mrs. Carl Boahn of
Puppy Creek and held religious
services with them. P.S. This was
Mrs. Edwards birthday too and both
the honorees received gifts and may
they have many more happy
birthdays.
Beth Wood of Raeford and Mars
Hill College and Mrs. Billy Cox and
son, Tripp, of Rt. 4, Raeford, were
dinner guests of Mrs. A.W. Wood.
Thanks to Johnny Gillis and all
the other young men who helped to
load and unload the antique church
organ and transport it from Rockfish
to Galatia Church and back, the past
weekend.

way and the mountains were very

were away, so they all had a nice
