Fantastic Four Fizzle
By Blanche Farmer
The leams greeted each other at
All American and then went to each
lane and came out fighting. The Old
Timers won over the Fantastic Four
three games to one.
Hot Shots didn't have much
competition from the Strickers, three
games to one, with Zan Kelly
bowling a 215 game. The Sicycles
and the Go Getters had some close
games, ending with two each. James
Barefoot had a 210.
The Spark Knockers were mean to
Lean and Mean, heating them tlnee
games to one.

Seventy-First Rips Bucks 33-6
By Mite Steadman
The Falcons of Seventy-First High
School dominated the Hoke High
Bucks in every respect as they blitzed
their way to a 33-6 triumph here
Friday pight.
The Fayetteville powerhouse
displayed few weaknesses as they
made the Bucks a believer of their
number two state ranking.
Vernon Morrison took tire opening
kickoff to the Seventy-First 35 yard
line. A stiff Falcon defense held the
Bucks at six yards in three plays and
the ball was turned over to
Seventy-First at their 29 yard line.
The Falcons rambled down to the
Buck 32 yard line in just two plays
before the Hoke defense held their
ground and took over on downs on
the 28 yard line.
In the next series, the Falcons
intercepted a Joe Poole pass with
7:11 showing on the clock and took
over on the Buck 47 yard line.
Seventy-First scored in only four
plays as Falcon Reggie Fairley ran in
from the two yard line with 5:30
remaining.
The extra point was good and the
Falcons were ahead 7-0.
Hoke took the kickoff on their 24
yard line and reeled off ten plays
with the aid of two penalties before
they were forced to punt from their
38 yard line as time ran out in the
quarter.
The ball exchanged hands twice
before Falcon quarterback Harry
Sidney scampered around right end
for an 85 yard run for a touchdown
with 4:38 remaining in the quarter.
The Falcons converted and the
score was 14-0.
Eagles Win
Fifth 28-0
The Upchurch Middle School
Eagles blasted the previously un
beaten Hamlet Jr. High team 28-0
here last Wednesday afternoon.
The Eagles mounted up 21
points before intermission and
added another in the fourth period.
A stubborn Eagle defense
thwarted the only scoring threat by
Hamlet late in the third quarter.
"I think they play pretty good
football for eighth graders." said
coach Wavne Mills.
Mills. Tommy Williams and
Spencer Sampson have guided the
Eagles to five straight victories
against no losses and have not been
scored upon this season.
"These boys show great potential
as future Hoke High football
players. Overall, these boys are the
best I have ever coached." said
Mills.
The Eagles last game of the
season is this Wednesday afternoon
at Wicker, who is also undefeated.
Guardsman Wins
Rifle Recognition
Spec. 4 Berder F. Webb of
Raeford. HQ Co.. 2nd Battalion.
252 Armored, was one of the
members of National Guard units
across the state who won honors in
the Adjutant General's M-16 Rifle
Championship Tournament in
Butner.
Webb placed among finalists in
the excellence in competition
match, a "leg" match shot by
marksman who have never com
peted to earn points toward a
distinguished marksman designa
tion.
Again the Buck offense stalled and
turned the ball over to Seventy-First
on downs. A pass interception by
Hoke and a fumble recovery by the
Falcons highlighted lackluster play
by both teams until the half ended.
The Falcons put two touchdowns
on the board within the first six
minutes of the third quarter as
Reggie Fairley scored from the ten
yard line with 8:36 remaining and
Derrick Pye rambled in from the 33
with 6:0^ showing. At this point, the
Falcons held a comfortable 27-0
lead.
Seventy-First sustained a drive
consisting of nine plays and were in a
fourth down and one situation when
the quarters ended.
The final period started with Greg
Fairley driving in from the one yard
line. The extra point was no good
and the Falcons had a 33-0 lead with
11:58 remaining in the game.
Botli team's defense took over for
the next two series as the ball was
turned over twice on downs.
The Bucks took the ball on their
14 yard line with 7:38 showing and
marched to a score in 14 plays as Joe
Poole hit tarnie Pecora with a seven
yard scoring strike with : ll) showing.
The conversion was missed and the
game ended with the Falcons holding
a 33-6 advantage.
"I think the boys played pretty
good loot bull considering who they
were playing/* said coach Bill
Cameron.
"It was the big play that hurt us.
We played better against them than
we did against San ford," he said.
Cameron pointed to outstanding
play by Reginald McRae, Joe Poole,
Steve Inman. tddie Penned. Thomas
Farmer and Lamie Pecora.
"They have nothing to be ashamed
of." he added.
Moke's next opponent is
Wadesboro ? Bowman next Friday
night. Bowman has not been
impressive this year as they sport a
3-5 record compared to Hoke's 2-5-1.
The Bearcats dropped a 34-0
decision to Sanford in their last
outing.
"Wadesboro is a big team
physically. They have nine men that
weigh over 200 pounds. I think we'll
be playing someone that is more on
our calibre." he concluded.
