Area Incidents Car Entry, Gun Taken Sheriffs deputies are investigating various break ? ins and larcenies thai occurred last week. James A. Hunt, of Rt. 1, Red Springs, reported that someone broke into his car glove compartment and took a .32 caliber pistol and holster valued at $165 sometime early Tuesday, Nov. 11. The Criminal Intelligence Division of Ft. Bragg reported that a car valued at S800 was stolen from the Ft. Bragg area Tuesday, Nov. 11. The car was later found with the motor missing. Glenn Wood, of P.O. Box 386, Raeford, complained that someone broke into his house sometime Monday, Nov. 10, and took jewelry, coins, and other goods valued at $1,950. Bennie Walters, Rt. 1, Raeford, reported that a record player valued at $300 was missing from his home Monday, Nov. 10. Lawrence McLauchlin, Rt. 1, Raeford, complained that someone took an electric heater from his hog barn sometime Monday, Nov. 11. The heater was valued at $75. Ronald Webb, of the North Carolina Forestry Service, reported that someone took 222 gallons of gas from the fire tower off Hwy. 211 sometime Tuesday, Nov. 11. W.E. McNeil) complained that someone broke into Carolina Turf and took some pens and vandalized the office area sometime Tuesday, Nov. 11. James F. Jacobs, Rt. 4, Raeford, reported that someone broke into his home sometime Wednesday, Nov. 12, and took clothes, tapes, and suitcases valued at $128. George E. Overton, Rt. 2. Raeford, reported that someone took a water pump from his house sometime Tuesday, Nov. 11. The water pump was valued at $1 SO. Herman Cummings, Rt. 2, Raeford, complained that his hog valued at S175 was stolen sometime Thursday, Nov. 6. Rayburn Maynor, Rt. 1, Shannon, reported his dog valued at $100 was stolen sometime Sunday, Nov. 9. John H. Cook, of 215 Lamont St., Raeford, complained that someone took his battery valued at $45 from his car sometime Monday, Nov. 10. Cook's car was parked on 401 North when the battery was stolen. David C. Allison, Rt. 1, Raeford, reported that someone broke into his house sometime Wednesday,Nov. 12 and took merchandise valued at $811. Timothy Alan Strickland, Rt. 3, Raeford, reported that someone broke into his mobile home sometime Thursday, Nov. 13, and took a sewing machine, a television, jewelry, and a gun. The merchandise was valued at $946. A go-cart valued at SI25 was recovered by deputy J. Peterkin on N.C. 20 last Friday after it was reported stolen from a city resident. JD. West notified police that the go-cart was stolen from the carport area at his home, 212 Reaves St. No arrests have been made. Josephine A. Bethea, 209 Eighth Ave., complained to police her pocketbook containing $50 in cash and personal papers was taken from a shopping cart at the A&P lot. Later, police reported the pocketbook was found and turned over to them by a city resident. Mrs. Homer Maxwell, 913 Stevens St., complained to police five chickens were stolen sometime Friday night. The loss is listed at $20. Deaths And Funerals Martin Luther Wood, Sr. Martin Luther Wood, Sr., 76, a lifelong resident of Rock fish, died Sunday. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Galatia Presbyterian Church with Rev. Russell B. Flemming officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Wood was a retired farmer and a member of ASC for several years. He served in the U.S. Navv and was a veteran of World War 1. A member of Galatia Church, he was also a former elder. Surviving are his wife. Mrs. Clara Monroe Wood; two sons, Fred Wood of Greenville, N.C., and Martin L. Wood. Jr., of Rockfish; a daughter, Mrs. Jane W. Duncan of Santa Maria, Cal.; one brother, Eric Wood of Rockfish; one sister, Miss Lily Wood of Falcon, N.C.: and seven grandchildren. Mr*. Clara L. Morrison Funeral services for Mrs. Clara L. Morrison of Chesapeake. Va.. were held Saturday, Nov. 15 in Ceredo. W.Va. Mrs. Morrison died Nov. 13. Surviving are a son. Charles E. Morrison of Raeford; two daugh ters. Mrs. Robert B. Boothe of Cheseapeake, and Mrs. Roy Spears, of Lake Worth, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Percy T. Manldln, Sr. Percy Thomas Mauldin. Sr., 59. of Laurinburg. died Friday at Scotland Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held Sun day at 3 P.M. at Old Hundred Baptist Church with Rev. S.A. Ansley and Rev. Henry Jenkins officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery'. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Doris Mauldin; two sons, William Gerald Mauldin of Raeford and Percy Mauldin. Jr., of Laurinburg; one daughter, Mrs. Brenda Myers of Wagram; his mother, Mrs. Annie Mauldin of Laurinburg; five brothers. Melvin of Ft. Lauderdale. Fla., Richard of Hazelhurst, Ga.. Murphy of Greensboro. James of Wagram. and Jessie Mauldin of Wadesboro; three sisters. Mrs. Bater Woodell of Hazelhurst, Mrs. Sara English of Greensboro, and Mrs. Alma Cantner of Wadesboro; and four grandchildren. Pallbearers were Paul Ansley, Roy H. Russell. Robert Odom, Marvin Cofell, Eston Stone, and William A. Cooper. Jr. SPECTATORS ? Driver Ed. Rep Passes First Aid James R. Weaver, driver educa tion representative for Raeford, attended a two day Red Cross first aid clinic in Emerald Isle recently. Weaver and other area IV representatives were participants in the Red Cross Multi-Media First Aid Course sponsored by the State Division of Motor Vehicles' Traffic Safety Education Section. Weaver was certified by the American National Red Cross as having completed the course in first aid to the injured. This certification will benefit the school bus drivers of the Raeford area as Weaver will be relaying his knowledge to them. The school bus drivers will be given a basic course in first aid methods in order to extend their knowledge of safety procedures. Bonds Totaled $73,288 in Series E and H Savings bonds were sold here during the third quarter of 1975, according to F.G. Williams, county chairman. From the first of the year through September, sales amounted to $236,711, representing 75 per cent of the $315,520 goal, Williams said. Statewide, sales of both bonds totaled $23,531,181 for the third quartet of the year, bringing the total for the year to date to $72,877,951, up 1.4 per cent over last year. <4 ?>: ??
