RELUCTANT - Four month old Tripp Flummer makes it clear by his expression he doesn't care much for pancakes. Others didn 'r agree, though, and the annual Kiwanis supper enjoyed a good turnout with some hearty eaters. oke ighlights by Barry Cilia . The Christmas season is once again upon us at Hoke High and while everyone may feel like cele brating, the teachers have decided we needed a good two weeks of hard work, since we have nothing else to do.(Ha!), before the parties, fun, and surprises of Christmas come. Between the Christmas pro jects of school, Christmas concerts, and the clubs' Christmas activities everyone is in a frenzy trying to get everything done at once. School work may be lacking sometimes, but most of us manage to do it all. (Somehow!). The Hoke High Wrestling Team started off their season with a loss. This past Thursday, December 4,. during fifth and sixth period the Bucks wrestled the Pinecrest Patriots. The final score was 37-26 in favor of the Patriots. The Bucks played again Monday, December 8 at Seventy-First High School in Fayetteville. This time they didn't bring home a win, but they didn't bring a loss either. The Bucks tied Seventy-First 29-29 in the the final score. The wrestlers are getting into fine shape this year and will soon bring wins again to Hoke High. The wrestling team is coached by Billy Colston. The Hoke High Basketball Team under the coaching of Howard Smith started off their season with a win, edging out the Pine Forest team of Fayetteville 70-67 this past Friday. December S. Coach Smith ?is hoping for another great basket ball team such as last year's, and what better way to start off the season than with a win. The JV Bucks also beat Pine Forest, while the Ladv Bucks suffered a loss. How could it be Christmas with out the annual Christmas Concert of the Hoke High Chorus and Chorale? Never fear, though, this year's concert will be presented this Tuesday Night at 8 P.M. in the Hoke High Gym. Under the direc tion of Mrs. Mary Archie McNeill and student director. Mrs. Candice Adams the HHS Chorus and Chorale will present their program with the theme, "Sing, Christmas Bells!" Highlights of the program will be songs from Handel's "The Messiah" and a dance solo by Susan Townsend while Leo McRae sings,"Winter Wonderland'. Various groups and ensembles will perform with the featured soloist: Joanna Best . Rochelle Walters, John Rockholt. Charlotta King, Amy Hemmens, and Ken MacDonald on the recorder. Two songs especially being featured in the program will be "Praises To The Christ Child" written by Melanie Childress, and "Long Ago, Far Away", written and directed by Susan Gillis, both students in the Chorale. The concert will consist of serious religious music in the beginning, but how could it be Christmas without old favorites such as "Jingle Bells", and "Silver Bells", also. Toward the end of the program the Chorus and Chorale will perform informally, "The Night Before Christmas", (with maybe even a surprise visit from OF Saint 'Nick'), before ending with the song "Sing, Christmas Bells". Admission is SI.00 and everyone is invited to attend. The Miss Ekoh Pageant of 1976 will be held on Thursday, Decem ber 18, 1975 at 7:30 P.M. in the Hoke High Gym. Students and everyone is invited for the pageant. Mrs. Elizabeth Burgess and the Ekoh staff are in charge of the pageant, and have worked very hard on everything, so everyone please come. N.Y. Firm Banned Here On Pesticide The Attorney General's Office and the Department of Agri culture's Pest Control Division have taken action against a pesticide manufacturer which made false claims for its products, according to an announcement last week. Pesticides made by Dartmouth Health Care Unit Sets Dec. 18 Meet Cardinal Health Agency, Inc., the health systems agency serving a 15 - county region including Hoke, will hold a public meeting Dec. 18 at 7 P.M. in the Southern National Bank building at 500 Chestnut St., Lumberton. Chief items on the agenda for the iheeting are organization of the agency, implementation of the law, and the application procedure for funding from the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (HEW), according to Dick Ben nett, acting administrative secretary. The health systems agency is responsible for health planning and resources development in south eastern North Carolina. Chemical Company, a New York based firm, have been banned from sales in North Carolina because company salesmen were found to have made representations for the products which were not consistent with registered product labels. These misrepresentations were made by phone to seveal farmers in the state. Complaints resulted in an ad ministrative hearing at which Dartmouth's registration was can celled. thus preventing any further sales of its products'. State law requires pesticide manufacturers to register with the Pest Control Division to determine the claims for the products are valid. Attorney General Rufus L. Hdmisten congratulated staff at torney James Wallace, who acted as legal counsel for the Department of Ariculture, and added, "The success of the cooperative efforts of this office and the Agriculture Department is another indication that all communities, farmers, laborers, and professionals are best served when state agencies combine their resources. We look forward to similar cooperation in the future with the Agriculture Department and other agencies." Save Everyday!! HOME FURNITURE CO. Plimif <i73 433? Eli Shankle. 32P No. Spillage Allowed On Shipping Soil Soil samples shipped to the Agronomic Division of the North Carolina Department of Agri culture must be packaged so that no spillage results in transit, the Department said in a reminder mailed this week. "It is imperative that soils coming from areas infested with witchweed, soybean cyst nematode, imported fire ant and white fringed beetle have no spillage if we expect to contain or eradicate these dreaded pests," stated Dr. Donald W. Eaddy, director of the division's laboratories. Federal domestic plant quaran tine regulations were relaxed to allow easier access to the labora tory's testing services, provided that precautions against spillage were taken. The alternative is a complete ban on the movement of soils from these areas unless they are first inspected or sterilized. Eaddy said spillage in transit from any area in the state can be prevented by packing the soil boxes in cardboard containers supplied by the laboratory and then sealing these with tape. "This procedure," says Eaddy. "may be of some inconvenience, but we feel that it is in the best interest of the people using the laboratory services and North Carolina agriculture in general."
