Verdict Is Delayed In Marijuana Charge The verdict was delayed in a case involving charges of simple posses sion of marijuana bv District Court Judge Joseph Dupree Friday. Joel Blanton, of Rt. 1, Aberdeen, was charged with simple possession and pleaded guilty. Dupree delayed the verdict and Blanton was placed on probation for two years on condition that he be obedient to his parents, and remain in the public school system and endeaver to finish high school and pay $150 and costs. In other cases, David Thelton, Godwin, Rt.l, Tabor City, was found guilty of driving while his license was revoked and was sentenced to not less than six months nor more than 12 months. Robert Wayne Smith, St. Pauls, pleaded guilty to using indecent language in a loud and boisterous manner within the hearing distance of two or more persons, public drunkenness, and resisting an officer, and was sentenced to 90 days, suspended for two years, and fined $100 and costs. William C. McAllister, Rt. 1, Lumber Bridge, pleaded guilty to non-support after state dropped charges of abandonment and was sentenced to 60 days, suspended for five years and ordered to pay $20 per week support for the child. For good cause shown, costs were remitted. Robert Michael Pearson, Rt. 4, Fayetteville, pleaded guilty to a passing violation, and speeding 85 in in a 55 MPH zone and was sentenced to 60 days, suspended for 12 months, and ordered not to drive for 12 months and pay $100 and costs. Milton L. Locklear, Rt. 2, Red Springs, pleaded guilty to carrying a concealed weapon, and reckless driving after the state took a voluntary dismissal on charges of DUI and was sentenced to 90 days, suspended for two years and ordered not to carry a concealed weapon for two years and was fined $150 and costs. Nathaniel Watkins. Rt. 1. Lum ber Bridge, pleaded guilty to four counts of worthless checks and was sentenced to four terms of 30 days to run consecutively. Gilbert Cribb. Box 822. Raeford, pleaded no contest to non-support and was sentenced to 60 days, suspended for five years on con dition he pay $150 per month for support. For good cause shown, costs were remitted. Jessie Lee Smith, Rt. 1, Shannon, pleaded guilty to DU1 and was sentenced to 90 days, suspended for 12 months and ordered not to drive for 12 months except for limited driving privileges and pay $150 and costs. Blood alcohol content was .24 according to records. Jerry Hyatt, Grant Ave., Rae ford, pleaded guilty to misde meanor larceny of a vehicle and was sentenced to not less than 12 months nor more than two years. The defendant gave a notice of appeal. Bertha McRae, Rt. 1. Raeford, pleaded guilty to shoplifting and was sentenced to six months, suspended for five years and fined $50 and cost. Donald L. Johnson, Rt. 2, Raeford. pleaded guilty to no financial responsibility, no regis tration. transporting an alcoholic beverage with the seal broken and reckless driving and was sentenced to 12 months, suspended for two years, and placed on probation for two years on condition that he not drive for 12 months, and pay $250 and costs. Ledbetter Jacobs. Rt. 3, Red Springs, pleaded guilty to driving with his license revoked, DUI. third offense, and speeding 70 in a 55 MPH zone, and was sentenced to two terms of two years, suspended for five years, and placed on probation for five years to run consecutively. He was fined a total of $1500 and was fined costs in each case. Notice of appeal was given. Roger Massey, Raeford. was found guilty of trespassing and w as sentenced to 90 days, suspended for three years and fined costs. Tony T. Love. Rt. 1. Raeford. pleaded guilty to reckless driving and was sentenced to 60 days, suspended and fined $25 and costs. Kenneth W. Dixon. II. 106 Myra Dr.. Raeford. pleaded guilty to speeding 80 in a 55 MPH zone and was sentenced to'60 days, suspend ed and fined $35 and costs. Dorothy L. Shaw. Rt. 3. Rae ford. pleaded guilty to speeding 65 in a 55 MPH zone and was fined $5 and costs. Bennie Ray Lowery, Rt. 2. Maxton, pleaded guilty to a hunting violation and was fined $10 and costs. Joseph Franklin Mellott. Har mony Heights. Raeford, pleaded guilty to no financial responsibility and was sentenced to 60 days, suspended and lined $25 and costs. Jessie Jones. Rt. 3. Raeford, pleaded guilty to no financial responsibility and Ficticious license plate and prayer for judgement was continued on condition that costs were paid. Roscoe McMillian, Rt. 1. Rae ford, pleaded guilty to worthless check and was sentenced to 30 days, suspended on condition he pay $6.67 restitution and costs. Jimmy Morrisey, P.O. Box 501, Raeford, pleaded guilty to driving left of center and prayer for judge ment was continued for two years on condition that he uav cost. Clayton E. Parks, Laurinburg. pleaded guilty to speeding 60 in a 55 MPH zone and prayer for judgement was continued for two years on condition that costs were paid. Earnest Revels. Hope Mills, pleaded guilty to speeding 70 in a 55 MPH zone and prayer for judgement was continued for two years on condition that costs were paid. Victor Brown Sidnor. Raleigh, pleaded guilty to speeding 70 in a 55 MPH zone and prayer for judgement was continued for two years on condition that costs were paid. George J. Baker, Rt. I. Raeford, pleaded guilty to driving without a license and was sentenced to 30 days, suspended, and fined $25 and costs. Tony Herring, Raeford, was found guilty of assault by pointing a gun and prayer for judgement was continued for three years and was fined costs. Curtis Locklear. Rt. 2, Raeford. pleaded guilty to speeding 65 in a 55 MPH zone and prayer for judgement was continued for two years on condition cost were paid. Ralph N. Bivens. Marshville. pleaded guilty to exceeding a safe speed, and was fined costs. Lula Burris, Rt. 1. Raeford, pleaded guilty to two counts of worthless checks and was sentenced to 30 days, suspended on condition she pay $43.55 restitution and costs. John Elton Ross. Rt. 2. Raeford. pleaded guilty to worthless check and was sentenced to 30 days, suspended on condition he pay $40 restitution and costs. John C. Monroe. 584 Campbell Terrace. Fayetteville. waived his probable cause hearings on charges of breaking and entering and larceny and receiving stolen goods. Bond was continued. Democratic candi date for Lieutenant Governor, was in Raeford last week campaigning. Stephenson, 35, has been ad missions director for Chowan Col lege for the past eight years. A graduate of Chowan, he earned his B.S. degree in industrial arts from North Carolina State University in 1965 and received his masters degree in personnel and guidance administrat ion in 1968. Stephenson pledged himself as a "public service candidate" and promised a grassroots program, saying elected officials must be more sensitive and responsive to the total needs of all citizens. His intentions are to work with people from all walks of life on solutions to problems facing the state, he said. Deaths And Funerals Mn. Ella Virginia Crowder The funeral of Mrs. Ella Virginia Crowder, 79. who died Wednesday. Dec. 3, was held at Lewis-Gentry Funeral Home in Mountain City. Tenn. Services were conducted by Revs. Davltl Huyard and J.D. Rash. Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Trilla Norris of Lenior, Mrs. Mamie Adams of Mountain City, Tenn., Mrs. Dorothy Pardu, Mrs. Pauline Greer, of Coeburn,^ Va.; sons, Otis and Orville of Raeford. Wayne of Virginia. Delmar of Charlotte, Harold, Earl and Jimmy of Mountain City, and a stepson. Clyde of Mountain City. Miss Sadie McDuffk A graveside service for Miss Sadie McDuffie. 88, who died Sunday, Nov. 30. was held at II A.M. Wednesday, Dec. 3, in the Raeford Cemetery.
