By Mike Steadman It's a time for new things, new people, new happenings, and new luck if it's going to come because no matter how one looks at it, 1976 is a new season. Since it is a new season, maybe a look back at the preceeding year might be in order. There are many ways to do this of course, but I think the best way is to produce some awards describe each one. LACKLUSTER AWARD-Coach Howard Smith who kept insisting that the 1974-75 Bucks basketball team was not as good as people thought. A 19-1 regular season mark might have proven him wrong. Smith found out (and still does) that sometimes it is hard to tarnish pure gold. KANGAROO AWARD-has to go to Kathy McMillan, who without a doubt has enough spring in her legs to hopefully jump all the way to the Olympics. NEWCOMER AWARD-Coach Terry Grier for finally producing a winner in baseball at Hoke High. That IS a lot of doing. RECRUITING AWARD-Coach Bill Cameron for getting so many people out for football. MIRACLE AWARD-Coach Bill Cameron for winning three games with less than 30 players. PARTICIPATION AWARD-Students at Hoke High for going downtown and hanging around a recreation center instead of going out for football. INTERROGATION AWARD-Allen Edwards for trying to find out who had those matches near the equipment room and putting up a reward to boot. SCHEDULING AWARD-Coach John Pecora for fixing it so all the away games for Hoke High athletic teams were so easy to get to and most of all a pleasant trip. These were a few of the major awards that should be looked at, but maybe some more individual awards should be granted like: BEST HEAD FOOTBALL COACH-nominees: Bill Cameron; winner Bill Cameron (no recount here) FOOTBALL MVP-?????????? (maybe next season) BEST PLAY IN FOOTBALL-Morrison to the left, Morrison to the right, and Morrison up the middle, (don't laugh, it worked, sometimes. . . .) MOST VALUABLE COACH-Wayne Mills BEST PROSPECT-David Home (hint, hint) BEST SECRETARY OF STATE-AUen Edwards BEST SUPPORT-Booster club ATHLETE OF THE YEAR -Kathy McMillan ? ? ? * Allen Edwards was in and reviewed the New Year resolutions from last week's paper and agreed (?) with most of them. Support the Bucks in their remaining games this season and you might see a few all-conference performers. ? ? ? ? Congratulations to Allen Thomas for making the All-East team compiled by the NEWS AND OBSERVER last week. Ladies' League Helpers Need Help At LaFayette Lanes the Travelers took three out of four games from the Helpers.
