District Court DUI Cases Highlight Huge Docket Cases involving charges of driving under the influence of alcohol headed a huge docket heard by District Court Judge Charles Guy here Friday. James Leroy Miller, Ft. Bragg, pleaded guilty to DUI and was sentenced to six months, suspended and ordered not to drive for a year and pay $100 and costs. Blood alcohol content was .15.according to records. Henry Richard McNeill, Red Springs, pleaded guilty to DUI and was sentenced to six months, suspended and ordered not to drive for a year and was fined $175 and costs. Blood alcohol content was .15, according to records. Eugene Carpenter, Rt. I.Raeford, pleaded guilty to DUI and was sentenced to six months, suspended for a year, and ordered not to drive for a year except for limited driving privileges and fined $100 and costs. Blood alcohol content was .16, according to records. Frank Donald Perry, 511 E. Fifth St., Raeford, pleaded guilty to DUI and transporting alcoholic beverage with the seal broken, and was sentenced to six months, suspended and ordered not to drive for 12 months, and fined $125 and costs. Dexter Bullard, Rt. 1, Shannon, pleaded guilty to DUI and was sentenced to six months, suspended and ordered not to drive for 12 months and was fined $100 and costs. Blood alcohol content was .12, according to records. David Jones, Rt. 1, Lumber Bridge, pleaded guilty to improper registration, and no financial responsibility and was sentenced to two years. He also pleaded guilty to DUI, third offense and speeding 66 in a 55 mph zone, and was sentenced to two years to begin at the expiration of the previous sentence. Alexander Purcell, Rt. 3,Raeford, pleaded guilty to reckless driving and was sentenced to 90 days, suspended and fined SI00and costs. Archie Riley Jr., Ft. Bragg, pleaded guilty to speeding 66 in a 55 MPH zone and driving without a license was sentenced to 90 days, suspended and fined SIS and costs. Richard Jerome Gamble, Ft. Bragg, pleaded guilty to speeding 69 in a 55 MPH zone and was sentenced to 60 days, suspended and fined S15 and costs. Karin Dale Borja, Fayetteville, pleaded guilty to reckless driving after the state dropped charges of speeding 84 in a 55 MPH zone and she was fined $35 aand costs. Mario Ares Jr., Fayetteville, pleaded guilty to traveling at a speed greater than was reasonable, and was fined costs. Delois Brewer, 507 E. Edinborough Ave., Raeford, was found guilty to reckless driving and was fined $25 and costs. Jacqueline Lee Jones, Rt. 2, Red Springs, pleaded guilty to reckless driving after the state dropped charges of speeding 84 in a 55 MPH zone and was fined $35 and costs. Herbert P. Hood Jr., Fayetteville, pleaded guilty to traveling at a speed too great for conditions after the state dropped chargcs of speeding 70 in a 55 MPH zone and was fined $10 and costs. David Tildon Clifton, Jr., Red Springs, pleaded guilty to failure to comply with restrictions on operator's license and was fined costs. Lawrence Allen Smith, Raleigh, pleaded guilty to no financial responsibility and was sentenced to 60 days, suspended and was fined $25 and costs. Hiawatha McLaurin, 210 Magnolia St., Raeford, pleaded guilty to shoplifting and was sentenced to 90 days, suspended on conditions that he pay $50 and costs and not go on the premises of the A&P unless invited to do so. Cunningham, Rt. I. Raeford, was found guilty of resisting and/or obstructing an officer and disorderly conduct and was sentenced to six months suspended on condition (hat he not resist any officer in any size, shape or form, not violate any laws ol the state or federal government for two years, and pay $100 and costs. Avery Nye announced that the Occupational Safety and Health Division (OSHA) of the Labor Department has issued the State Department of Transportation three citations for safety standards violations that resulted in the death of a worker at the Method Maintenance Yard of the Division of Highways on Dec. 29. Clarence Lee. 32. an inmate at the Triangle Correctional Center, was killed w hile welding on top of a liquid asphalt tank when sparks from his electric welder ignited flammable vapors from the tank and caused a fatal explosion. According to Nye. DOT's vio lations are: DOT supervisors failed to pro hibit welding in an area where an explosive flammable atmosphere caused a serious safety hazard. DOT supervisors did not inspect the working area, outline safetv Sales, Earnings up For Family Dollar Family Dollar Stores. Inc. (AMEX symbol FDO), reported first quarter sales and earnings last week. Leon Levine, president, said that sales of $15,741,248 for the first quarter ended Nov. 30. 1975, were a record for any quarter, while earnings of $837,433 were not only a record for any first quarter but also represented the second best single quarter earnings in the company's history. Earnings per share for the period were $.21 compared to $.02 for the quarter last year. Further, Mr. Levine noted that the sales increase was 26 per cent. Sales for December were also a record for any month in the company's history, reaching ap proximately $10.2 million, as com pared to $7.8 million for December last year, an increase of about 31 per cent. The Board of Directors adopted a policy of paying regular quarterly cash dividends beginning with the initial declaration of a $.04 per share dividend on its common stock to shareholders of record Feb. 2, 1976, payable on Mar. 8, 1976. Dunne (Mr. Dooley) precautions, or issue a required written work permit before allow ing Lee to weld on an asphalt storage tank. According to regu lations. before welding can be done on a tank, all asphalt and dangerous vapors must be cleaned from the tank and the area. Both welders and supervisors were not adequately trained in the safe use of their equipment and related processes. DOT has issued a safety stan dard to prohibit welding of tanks of flammable liquids which was the primary cause of the fatality. This standard "will enable DOT to comply with part of the notice of violation." said Nve. "It is ironic that a fatality should have occured in the DOT. the state agency doing the most to comply with OSHA regulations. Our work with DOT has enabled us to obtain federal matching funds that mean we can help other public agencies with safety and health programs, at no extra cost to the state." Lacy Morrison, Raeford, was found not guilty of assault with a deadly weapon and frivolous and malicious prosecution was found and costs were taxed to the prosecuting witness. Charles Butliird, Raeford, pleaded guilty to non-support and was sentenced to six months, suspended and ordered to pay $30 per week support. Deaths And Funerals Joe A. Boahn. Jr. Joe Allen Boahn, Jr.. age two, died Saturday. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 3 P.M. in the Parker Methodist Church by Rev. Gordon Ruggles. Burial was in the church cemetery. Surviving are his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Joe A. Boahn, Sr.; paternal grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Boahn of Raeford; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Lo retta Parker of Raeford; a brother. Sandy Boahn of the home; and two sisters. Miss Vicki Boahn and Miss Michelle Boahn, both of the home. William Beckwith William Lattie Beckwith. 81, a retired farmer, died Sunday in Moore Memorial Hospital in Pine hurst. Funeral services were con ducted Tuesday at 2 P.M. in the Second Baptist Church by Rev. Lewis Jolly and Rev. Paul Morrow. Burial was in Raeford Cemetery. Surviving are his wife. Mrs. Hallie Beaver Beckwith; two sons. William (Billy) Henderson of Goldsboro and William Roland Beckwith of the home; two daugh ters. Mrs. Edward McNeill and Mrs. Clarence English, both of Raeford; a brother. Bennie Beck with of Moncure; two sisters. Mrs. Hattie Hatley of Pittsboro and Mrs. Lyda Windham of Raleigh; 10 grandchildren; and four great - grandchildren. Active pallbearers were Ray Hawkins. Mike McNeill, Daniel Wright. Bobby McDowell, Bobby Conoly. and Earl Conoly. Honorary pallbearers were the Deacons of the Second Baptist Church. Church Sets Rally The Raeford Foursquare Church will hold a rally Saturday. Jan. 17 at 2 P.M. under the direction of Rev. Richard Gardner. The church will host the Foursquare churches of Raleigh. Wilmington, Jackson ville. and New Bern. Beginning Sunday. Jan. 18. the Raeford Foursquare Church will begin its first revival of the new year. Evangelist will be Rev. Max Flynn of the Jacksonville (Fla.) Foursquare Church. Services will be Sunday at 11 A.M. and 6 P.M.. then nightly at 7 P.M. Tuesday. Jan. 20 through Friday. Jan. 23. Mat Jones, Raeford, was found not guilty of assault with a deadly weapon. David Gary Thompson, Asheboro, was found not guilty of a hunting violation. John Alford, Rt. 3 Raeford, was found guilty of larceny and was sentenced to six months. The defendant gave a notice of appeal. Probable cause was found againt John Alford on charges of breaking and entering and larceny. A security bond of $5,000 was set. Jimmy De. Williams of Rt. 1, Aberdeen, pleaded not guilty to armed robbery and probable cause was found and the defendant was bound over to Superior court for action by the grand jury. Christopher Lee Core, Rt. 1, Aberdeen, pleaded not guilty to armed robbery and probable cause was found and the defendant was bound over to the Superior court for action by the grand jury.
