Mrs. Carlton Niven, Social Reporter, 875-3785 Engagement Announced Mr. and Mrs. Robert Baker, of Raeford. announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter. Patricia Ann. to Darrell Craig Stone, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Stone, also of Raeford. The bride-elect, a 1974 graduate of Hoke County High School, is presently a sophomore at Pem broke State University, where she is majoring in Sociology and Home Economics. At Pembroke. Miss Baker is a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. The prospective bridegroom is a 1973 graduate of Hoke County High School, also attended Pem broke State University and is presently employed with Knit-Away of Raeford. The wedding will take place on March 7 at the First Baptist Church in Raeford. Christian Women's Club To Meet The January Meeting of the Christian Women's Club will be held at the new Pinehurst Mem ber's Country Club on January 21st at 11:30 A.M. Please note the change of meeting place for this month only. ? Mrs. Hal Minnich of Black Mountain, will be speaker. She is well known in this area, having made many friends on her previous visits. Il Mrs. Robert Ewing and her guitar will bring the special music. "Antiques N' Things" - by Sheila Chavis of The Cobwebb Cottage will be the special feature. The Christian Women's Club is a National Association of Women which meets for luncheon once a month in many of the leading cities and areas throughout this Country and Canada. All are welcome. Please call 875-3759 by Monday. January 19th, for your reservation. U.D.C. Meets Mrs. Julian H. Wright and Mrs. W.L. McFadyen were hostesses to members of the United Daughters of the Confederacy Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Wright on Central Avenue. , Mrs. Floyd Monroe presided at the business meeting. Mrs. Hallie Blythe was program chairman. The subject was "Three Great Sons of The Old Dominion." These were Robert Edward Lee. th omas Jonathan Jackson and Matthew Fontaine Maury. These three men shared the heritage of having been been born in Virginia ayd very nearly under the same sign of the Zodiac in January. All three were products of formal naval or military officers training. It is because of many characteristics that we celebrated their birthdaysjointly. During the social hour refreshments were served. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Walter Barrington Jr., of Jacksonville. Fla. are visiting his mother, Mrs. Helen S. Barrington. Sgt- and Mrs. William D. Houston and family, formerly of Knobnoster, Mo., stationed here with the Air Force, spent the holidays in Johnstown, Pa. with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Archie L. Phillips. They also visited her brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. Archie L. Phillips, Jr. in Ramseur and sister, Mrs. B.T. Fields in ? Carthage. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dupree, Jr. have returned to Ala. where he is a I law student, after spending the holidays here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dupree and in Raleigh with her relatives. Miss Carolyn Dupree of Raleigh also spent the holidays here with her parents. Miss Britt, Fiance Shown Bridal Honors Miss Marvin Lynne Britt and her fiance, Jimmy Maxwell, were honored with a buffet supper Saturday night, January 3, at the Stamps Fellowship Center of Lumber Bridge Presbyterian Church. Hosts were Mr. and Mrs. Jon Evans, Mr, and Mrs. Hubert Covington and Mrs. John Covington. Miss Britt and Mr. Maxwell are to be married Sunday, January 25, at the Back Swamp Baptist Church, Lurnberton. Upon her arrival Miss Britt was presented a red and white corsage. She and her fiance greeted the 45 guests. Guests were served punch and hors d'oeuvres prior to the meal. The center was decorated in red and white with poinsettias. Each table was covered with a red and white cloth and had matching napkins and a centerpiece of candles and pyracantha berries. The buffet table held roast beef, ham, corn, green beans, escalloped potatoes, beets, rolls, homemade pickles and pound cake, served with iced tea and coffee. Miss Britt played the piano and led the guests in singing. Roger Hall gave the invocation. The hosts presented the bridal couple with an electric steam iron. Guests attended from Lurnberton, Rowland, Raeford, Raleigh, Lumber Bridge and Fayetteville. Mrs. David E. Humprey and Mrs. Frances Shooter entertained with a bridal shower for Miss Britt on January 10 at the Humphrey home in Shannon. Yellow mums and white carnations with white candles were used on the refreshment table and in the living room. Thirty guests were present for the 8:00 pjn. party. Long - Stopfer Miss Dolores Jean Stopfer and Harold Robert Long, Jr. were married January 10 in St. Bartholo mew's Episcopal Church, Cherry Hill, N.J. Given in marriage by her father, the bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Stopfer of Collings wood, N.J. Mr. Long is the son of Mrs. Harold R. Long of Raeford and the late Mr. Long. After a reception in the parish hall of the church, the couple left on a wedding trip to Florida. Upon their return they will be at home in Blackwood. N.J. Mr. Long is assistant operations manager for J&J Snack Foods Corp. in Pennsauken, N.J. Attending from Raeford were the bridegroom's mother and his uncle and aunt. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Gulledge. Births Mr. and Mrs. Mike McNeill announce the birth of a son, Michael Patrick, on December 30, at Cape Fear Valley Hospital. Mrs. McNeill is the former Pat Cothran. Miss Brut and Mr. Maxwell and their parents and his sisters, Sally Lynne and Mary Monroe, and his grandmother, Mrs. John Covington, attended an informal party January 7 in Lumberton given by Mrs. Lyndell Stone, Mrs.Maurice Stone, Mrs. E.W. Stone and Mrs. Thomas Stone. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Maxwell, Jimmy, Sally Lynne and Mary Monroe of Dundarrach, and Mrs. John Covington of Lumber Bridge, attended a special service at Back Swamp Baptist Church in Lumberton Sunday morning honoring Miss Britt for her many years of service to her church as pianist and organist. Miss Britt, who is beginning her 18th year of perfect attendance at church, was presented a Bible and an engraved Revere bowl. After services the Maxwells and Mrs. Covington were luncheon guests of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Britt. Birthday Mrs. Fowler Mrs. Annie Gates, Mrs. Cleo McDuffie, Miss Nancy R McCall, and Miss EfTie Lee Flowers gave a surprise birthday party for Mrs. Marie Fowler on January 7 at her home. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie McNeill and daughter Miss Verlena McNeill of Red Springs, Mrs. Ruby Breeden and daughters. Miss Gladys Breeden of Bennett College and Miss Mary Breeden. Mrs. Mary A. Mclntyre, Pearl McRae, Shirley McRae, Cleo Mc Duffie and daughter Betty, Jean and James Gates. Mrs. Rosa B. Flowers, Mrs. Mable McGregor, Mrs. Elasia McBryde. Also, the honoree's husband, Arne Fowler, her mother, Mrs. Aquilla Jones, her grandmother, Mrs. Mary B. McPnatter, and Mrs. Virginia Percell. McLean - Bolin The engagement of Miss Mary Wallis McLean, daughter of Mrs. William Wallace MqLean and the late Mr. McLean, to Lt. Thomas Russell Bolin is announced by her mother. Lt. Bolin is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Bolin of Spokane, Washington. The wedding will take place on April 24, at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Chapel, Fort Bragg. Ford - Bowyer Miss Lois Ann Bowyer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roland Charles Bowyer of Laurinburg, and John Anthony Ford, son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Ford of Charlotte, were married December 20 at North Laurinburg Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert W. Rollins. A recep tion followed in the church fellow ship hall. The couple is living in Charlotte. The bride is a niece of Mrs. Keith Hawkes and Mrs. Vester Peele of Raeford.
