Bucks Top Lumberton, Beaten By Pinecrest By Mike Steadman The Hoke High School Bucks paced by Nate McNeill's 27 points put the clamps on a highly reguarded Lumberton team here last week by a 63-55 score. The win was the first conference victory for the Bucks and their fourth win overall. Dow n by a point at the half, the Bucks out-scored the Pirates 18-8 in the third quarter to ice the game. Alfred Douglas was the leading scorer for the Pirates with 20 points. Marcus Brown helped the Buck cause with 12 points. A strong surge by the Pinecrest High School in the final quarter broke open a deadlocked game and aided them to a 70-65 win over the Bucks in Southern Pines Friday night. The score was tied 35-35 at the half and was knotted many times after that until the final quarter surge. The loss leaves the Bucks with a 1-3 conference record and a 4-4 record overall. This week's action had the Bucks traveling to Fayetteville Tuesday night for an encounter with the Seventy-First Falcons, and then playing host to Bowman here tomorrow (Friday) night. Cold? Yes If you thought it was cold in Raeford Monday, you were right, but it didn't set any records, according to a check made by the News-Journal. Monday's high was recorded as 33 degrees, although many who. were shivering doubted the ther mometer. The low early Tuesday morning was 20 degrees. but by mid-afternoon the mercury shot up into the 40's. a near heat wave to the cold-weary.
