Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Donald White were honored on their 45th wedding anniversary Monday, January 26, with a dinner party given by their children at the Richard White home. They also were surprised by an unexpected visit from their daughter Betty from Ohio. College News Deborah Lynn Leach of Raeford is among 28 Appalachian State University students to receive an honor teaching award for the fall semester. Miss Leach taught third grade at Walkertown Elementary School. She is the daughter of A.K. Leach of Rt. 3, Raeford. Dewey Inman of Raeford is among 45 Pembroke State Univer sity sociology students who traveled to Raleigh Monday to view correc tional facilities. The tour was part of a project in Punishment and Corrections and Juvenile Delinquency courses. Hoke High band members will take part in the first annual Pembroke State University instru mental "Music Festival", sched uled Saturday. Feb. 28 in the Performing Arts Center. The program is free and open to the public. Carol Fowler, a senior nursing major, was named to the dean's list at Western Carolina University for the last quarter. She is the daughter of Mrs. Henry Fowler of Raeford. Jeryl Bratcher and Brendella Leslie, both 1975 graduates of Hoke High School, were named to the dean's list at Winston-Salem State University for the first semes ter. Miss Brathcer is the daughter of Mrs. Rosalie Bratcher, Rt. 2, Raeford. Lester Southern of Raeford will be featured in the Atlantic Chris tian College Opera Theater's per formance of "The Impresario", scheduled Jan. 29-30 at 8 P.M. on the college campus. Southern will portray the assis tant to the impresario in the comic spoof. Kenneth Davis of Raeford will perform the role of Sulpice in "Daughter of The Regiment" as part of "An Evening of Operatic Comedy" to be presented Feb. 5-6 by the East Carolina University Opera Theater. Both programs begin at 8 P.M. Tickets are $1.50. St. John's, Newfoundland, is the same distance from Rome, Italy, as it is from Victoria, capital of Canada's westernmost province, British Columbia. Sumner - Johnson Vows Spoken In Fayetteville Mrs. John Edwin Sumner Miss Marian Hope Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Johnson Jr. of Fayetleville, and John Edwin Sumner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney E. Sumner of Lumber Bridge, spoke their marriage vows Saturday afternoon, January 24, at 3:00p.m.. in the Ashworth Presbyterian Church. FayetteviUe. The Reverend Angus McQueen of Danville, Va.. officiated at the double ring ceremony. A program of wedding muse was presented by Mrs. Melody Savage, organist, and Mrs. Joan Northern, soloist, both of Fayetteville. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a formal gown of crepe polyester designed with empire bodice, high neckline and long full sleeves, with seed pearl trim at the neckline, down the bodice and on the cuffs. The skirt extended into a chapel train. Her four ? tier veil of silk illuson was attached to a Camelot cap. She carried a colonial bouquet of white and red carnations and gypsophila with acccntsof green and long white ribbon streamers. Miss Linda Sue Johnson of Faeytteville, served as her sister's maid of honor. She wore a floor ? length green juniper and white blouse made with high neckline and bishop sleeves. She carried a nosegay of white mums with green ribbon streamers. Bridesmaids were Miss Pamela Sumner of Lumber Bridge, sister of the bridegroom; Miss Mary Humphrey of Appalachian Stale U., and Miss Carol Dew of Fayetteville. They wore red jumpers and white blouses and carried white mum nosegays with red ribbon streamers. Mr. Sumner served as best man for his son. Ushers were Franklin Johnson III, brother of the bride, Richard Elkins and Steve Beelor, all of Fayetteville, and James Ballance of Red Springs. Following the ceremony a reception was held in the church fellowship hall. The bride is a graduate of Seventy-First High School and attended East Carolina University. She is employed by The Capitol Stores in Fayetteville. The bridegroom was graduated from Parkton High Sdiool and is employed by Bass Air Conditioning in Fayetteville. The newlyweds will reside at 5 106 Tulip Drive, Lafayette Village, Fayetteville. Rehearsal Party On Friday night Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Sumner, the bridegroom's parents, entertained with a buffet supper for 25 guests including members of the wedding party, their families, and other special guests. Assisting the hosts were their daughter, Mrs. Faye McMillan, and Misses Lib and Lois Summner.
