Joyce McKenzie, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. H.A. McKenzie, Rt.
1, Shannon, has been chosen as the
^winner of the local Woman's Club
Scholarship. She will receive a cash
award and will represent the local
Woman's Club in the district
competition in February at Camp
bell College. The district winner
will compete in state competition
where the winner will receive a
scholarship to any state supported
University.
This scholarship is to outstand
ing senior girls who show promise
of leadership, scholarship and
some need.
Joyce has been an outstanding
member of the senior class. She has
participated in band, chorus,
chorale, basketball, tennis, track.
Science Club, Monogram Club,
National Honor Society, Students
in Action for Education, Senior
Executive Committee, Junior Mar
shal, and attended the Govenor's
School in 1975. She plans to attend
the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill next year.

local Junior Woman's Club in

Janet is an outstanding member
of the senior class. She has excelled
academically and participated in
Math Club, Students in Action for
Education, Fellowship of Christian
Athletes, Senior Executive Board,
Science Club, and Sophomore Girls
Club. She plans to attend North
Carolina State University and study
engineering.

regular meeting and learned how to prepare homemade pizza. The meeting
ended as a party, with the group sampling their work.

The annual Hoke County 4-H
Achievement Program will be held
on Monday, Feb. 9 at 7:30 P.M. in
the Raeford Elementary School
Auditorium. This is an important
event in which awards are pre
sented for 4-H work. Special
awards that will also be given
include: Most Outstanding
4-Her's, Most Outstanding Club,
Superior Campers, Home Econom
ics Award, Agricultural Award,
and Achievement Award.
The speaker for the program will
be Mike Ritter, District 4-H Vice
President. Mike is also a recent
national winner in the 4-H Health
project.
During the program the 1976
4-H County Council officers will be
installed. An added attraction will
be the opportunity for 4-H'ers to
exhibit their project work. All 4-H
members, leaders, parents, and
friends are invited to attend the 4-H
Achievement Program.
