CONSTRUCTION- Another store is going up on Hwy 21I between Antioch and the county line. This business is locating about two miles from the line. Recreation Director Doubtful Before April > Parks and Recreation Commis sion members are still interviewing applicants for the full-time recrea tion director position but are floubtful the job will be filled before Apr. 1. "What has happened is those that applied didn't have enough experience, or we couldn't pay them what they wanted," Mrs. Carson (Iris) Davis, Jr., said. Mrs. Davis is one of five on the screening committee. "It's going to be a long process, we want to take time to choose the right person. We are requiring someone with experience. We have to have an administrator if we are going to start a county wide program. We need someone who knows how to start programs, who has done it before, and hunt for grants, too," she said. "We want to have somebody by April 1. We wanted someone sooner, of course," she said. "Planning for all of the summer recreation programs will have to start by that time," she explained. Last fall, county commissioners boosted the salary range for the director's job up to $13,000 annually. Final approval in hiring the director is left to commis sioners. *?" Mrs. Davis said two more applicants are scheduled to be interviewed this week. Community Calendar Thursday. Feb. 12 ? 3-H Home Extension Homemakers club, 7:30 P.M. Monday morning, Thigpen ac cused Barnes of referring to him as "Mr. Pigpen" repeatedly during his testimony and cross examina tion Friday. "That's the first man that's ever been turned loose on it (the radar device) in this county," said Thigpen. He said that about 400 convic tions have been made in the county through the use of the device since it had been in use in. Hoke County, He said that He hatd been .in contact with the device and its operating procedure for aboiit tWp' years in all. "I calibrate the device after -(?everyone I stop to make sure it is right," he said, "The device, to my knowledge, has never been wrong." he added. Thigpen explained that the de vice replaced the VASCAR system because the new device eliminated the chance of human error. "It's the most modern piece of speed detecting equpiment the state has. If something is wrong, with it, it won't register anything," he said. "If that's what the courts are going to sty about ail the speeding cases that involve this device, what are you going to do about the test of them?" he asked. "If that's the ruling, you might as well take the device and throw it out the window," he Mid. "If I've got enough nerve to charge them using the device, the court should have enough nerve to enforce it," he said'. . >0$:* car," he conctodtA Bond Sales Rising Sales of Series E'and H Savings Bonds in Hoke County during, the fourth quarter' of .1975' were $81,332!
