Mrs. Carlton Nivcn, Social Reporter. 875-3785 U.D.C. Meets Friday ?. Mrs. AX. Stevens and Mrs. Tom Purcell were hostesses to members of the Raeford Chapter of the U.D.C. Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Stevens. Mrs. Purcell of Raleigh is the former Barbara Stevens and a' member of the Raeford Chapter. Mrs. K.A. MacDonald, program chairman, could not be present and Miss Josephine Hall was her substitute. The subject was "Important Speeches, Proclamations and Public Acts". Those discussed were the speech of Jefferson Davis on leaving the U.S. Senate, the Inaugural address of Jefferson Davis when he became President of the Confederate States, Sam Houston's speech on his support of the cause of the Confederacy and words of Robert E. Lee as he voiced his coytpassion of his southland and his men on April 10, 1865. Old records and pictures of Raeford Institute organized May 25, I8W5 were shown. The late Dr. A.P. Dickson was president and J.W. McLauchlin was Secretary and Treasurer in 1895. Members hope to secure a state historical marker on the old campus which is across the street from the new library building. During the social hour the hostesses served mushroom puffs, snow balls and fake strawberries. Miss Faulk Fionored Miss Judy Faulk, bride ? elect of Charles Maroney, Jr. was honored at a floating shower Friday evening of last week at the home of her mother, Mrs. Billy Faulk. Hostesses were her aunt. Mrs. Malcolm Culbreth of Selnra, Iter sister, Mrs. Robert Rosa of Cokmial Heights, Va? Miss Jane Culbreth of East Carolina University and Mrs. McKoy Maxwell of Raeford. The dining table was centered with a five branched candelabra holding red tapers. Guests served themselves from an assortment of parly sandwiches, cheese straws, cookies, nuts and valentine candies. Mrs. Maxwell poured the punch. In the living room arrangements of tfdbud were used. The gift table was entered with a red valentine Pyramid with red satin streamers. Miss Faulk was given a corsage of white carnations with tiny valentines and an electric can opener by the Jpostcsses. Tacky Party Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Walters of Route 3, Raeford, were hosts for a tacky party at their home February 13. Special guests for the evening were Mr. and Mrs. B.G. Zimmer man of Lake Jackson, Texas, parents of Mrs. Robert Walters. Decorations were in the Valen tine theme. Mrs. J.M. Pendergrass was presented a prize for being the oldest guest and the tackiest dressed lady. Horace Walters, Jr. won the prize for the tackiest dressed man. BRIDGE Mrs Jordan Mts.
