BICENTENNIAL DISP/.A )'? A Revolutionary War battlefield, a replica of the
Liberty Bell, Paul Revere's Ride, and other colonial scenes make an interesting
Bicentennial display at the Raeford Elementary School library. The project was
done by the gifted and talented class taught by Kathv Mcintosh.
Division Leaders Beat Bucks
The Hoke High Bucks added two
losses to their basketball record last
week as Sanford squeaked by them
in Raeford Tuesday 71-67 and lost
at Rockingham Friday night to
Richmond Senior by a 80-64
margin.
Larry Black scored a game high
28 points for the Bucks in the
Sanford loss and was aided by
Marcus Brown, who added 22.
Randy Beasley and Sherman
Baker scored 26 and 25 points
respectively for Sanford Central.
Sanford jumped to a ten point
first quarter lead with a 21-11
margin.
In the second quarter the Bucks
fought back and outscored the
Yellow-jackets 20-11 and out
pointed the Sanford team in the
third period 22-16 for a 53-48 lead
going into the fourth period.
The Yellowjackets put their
offense in high gear in the fourth
quarter and beat the Bucks by a
23-14 score to produce a 71-67
victory.
Richmond Senior placed five
players in double figures and beat
the Bucks in every quarter to gain a
80-64 victory.
Nate McNeill led the Bucks
scoring with 20 points followed by
Allen Thomas and Larry Black
with 18 points each.
Curtis Poole led the Raider
scoring with 20 points, followed by
Willie Summers with 13, Don
Patterson with 12. and Lawrence
Williams and Bill Diggs with 10
each.
The losses brought Hoke's record
to 2-6 in conference play and 6-9
overall.
Sanford leads the division with
only one loss'in conference play and
Richmond stands at 5-2.
The Bucks traveled to Lum
berton Tuesday night for another
conference game and are home at
Pinecrest tomorrow (Friday) night
to take on the Patriots.

Oakwood Still In Lead

Oakwood Laundry stretched
their lead to eight full games last
week in the Raeford Merchant
Bowling action as they dumped
Webb's Tire four games.
The Moose Lodge remains in the
runnerup spot. The Lodge dropped
three out of four games last week to
Hunt's Bonding. The hot barbers
continued to bring smoke as they
trimmed Earl's Electric three
games to one. Earl's moved into the
number 3 spot with their one win.
Kennerty's turned back Gentry's
Tire three games to one and
McNeil's bumped the Guard three
games to one.
The high series and high 200 last
week went to Ted Pulhamus for the
Tourney
The Hoke County Booster Club's
Golf Tournament is scheduled for
Mar. 13-14 at the Arabia Golf
Course, according to Ashwell Har
ward. Booster Club spokesman.
Harward said all proceeds for the
two day tournament will go to the
Booster Club for Hoke High
ahtletics.
He said he encourages everyone
to sign up.
Harward said entry blanks could
be obtained from him or G. Raz
Autry, Superintendent of Hoke
County Schools.
Moose Lodge, 233, and a high
series of 571. Others hitting the 200
mark included Robert McNeil for
the barbers a 224, Larry Long for

Church except attendance was off
some Sunday, probably on account
of illness as there seeins to be a lot of
something like flu going around.
Rockfish and Wayside
communities extend sympathy to
Stacy Hobson and children in the
death of Mrs. Hobson, who passed
away at Moore Memorial Hospital
Sunday night.
Recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. E.T.
Brock and Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe
Bundy and families were Mr. and
Mrs. E.R. Brown of Raleigh.
Mrs. Sidney Sumner of Lumber
Bridge spent Sunday afternoon with
her mother. Mrs. Ehtel D. Gibson.
Local guests of Mrs. Gibson who had
not visited her for a long time were
Mrs. Julian Barnes and Mrs. Mary
Mclnnis last Thursday p.m.
Mrs. Martin Wood returned from
her extended visit to Florida last
Friday. She visited Mr. and Mrs. Dan
Johnson, her aunts. Mrs. Flora Lee
and Mrs. Margaret Foard and other
relatives and friends while there.
Mrs. Judy Dill and son David
departed from Fayetteville Municipal
Airport at 7:14 a.m. Wednesday.
Feb. II to be reunited with her
husband, William Nathan Dill
formerly of Spartanburg. South
Carolina. They are to move into their
home at Ft. Lewis, Washington
where Mr. Dill is stationed in the
Army. Mrs. Dill was seen off at the
airport by her mother, Mrs. Glenn
Gibson, her three sisters. Mrs. Sam
Phillips, Miss Myrtle Gibson. Miss
Ann Gibson, and her closest friend.
Miss Jena Wood. Mrs. Dill is the
former Judy Carole Gibson, daughter
of Mr. and Mis. Glenn Gibson of
Rock fish.
Mr. and Mrs. Lairy Hayes of
Bladenboro visited Mr. and Mrs. E.D.

Joan for a short time last Sunday

Herbert Reynolds mother and she
has been sick for some time.
Mrs. Brock says all of her sons
who were sick last week are much
better now.
Mrs. L.B. Bundy had no news this
week, but she will soon be having a
birthday and at one time she was just
one day ahead of George
Washington.
Why are people so anxious to
change everything? It is a good thing
that they can't change the time the
sun rises and sets.
Miss Donnie Barefoot visited her
cousins. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Smith of
Route 5, Dunn in Sampson County
last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith Mclnnis and
her mother. Mrs. Jim Maxwell visited
his mother. Mrs. Mary Mclnnis

Mrs. Wallace McLean of Raeford is
spending some time with Mrs. Martin
Wood.

home of Mrs. Nellie Williams' of
Fayetteville last Tuesday.
Among Mrs. Will Monroe's Sunday
guests were her sister Mrs. Garnet
Emory and her son and his wife Mi.
and Mrs. Henry Clay Emory of
Durham. Mrs. Monroes sister stayed
and will be with her until Thursday,
this week.
Mrs. Hugh Overton, who was
seriously ill and in the hospital is
recuperating slowly now at her
home, and all her friends are glad to
know that she is on the right road to
complete recovery.
Mr. and Mrs. John Aldridge of
Wilson visited her parents. Mr. and
Mrs. Dan Mclnnis of Raeford the
past weekend and came by Rock fish
for a short visit with her
grandmother. Mrs. A.A. Mclnnis and
her uncle Thomas Mclnnis on their
way home Sunday afternoon.

Palmer Phillips of Robbins.
Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Monroe and
Mrs. Floyd Monroe attended the
birthday party of Bryan Monroe, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Monroe of
McCain. Bryan was 2 years old and
may he have many, many more
happy birthdays.
