Mrs. Carlton Niven. Social Reporter, 875-3785 Deese - Bur ley Vows Spoken Saturday Mrs. Dennis Deese Miss Barbara Burley. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Burley of Aberdeen, became the bride of Dennis Deese, son of Mrs. Floyd Deese of Ashley Heights and the late Mr. Deese, on Saturday, February 21 in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Southern Pines. The two o'clock double ring ceremony was performed by Rev. Edward Waters. Robert Burley Jr., brother of the bride served as acolyte. Music was provided by Miss Tammy Calcutt, organist, and Miss Jane Sellars, soloist. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore her mother's wed ding gown of white satin and chose a tiered fingertip veil edge in lace. She carried a bouquet of blue and Shower Honors Miss Baker Miss Patricia Baker, bride-elect of Darrell Craig Stone, was honored at a miscellaneous shower, on Saturday February 14, at the Miss Faulk Entertained Miss Judy Faulk whose marriage will lake place Saturday. March (>, to Charles Maroney Jr.. was honored ?with a luncheon on Saturday at one o'clock in the home of Mrs. Jack Pope along with her daughters. Miss Becky Sue Pope and Mrs. Bert Pope Bates. ? Honored were mothers, grandmothers, bridesmaids and close friends. The hostesses presented Miss Faulk with a corsage of red and white carnations upon arrival and tables were decorated in red and white. The hostesses served chicken supreme, lima beans, corn, rolls, ice lea and a fruit appetizer. Strawberry shortcake was served for dessert. Miss Faulk was given a sunshine yellow goblei in her chosen pattern. A floating shower was given for Miss Judy Faulk. Saturday night in the United Methodist Church fellowship hall. Hostesses were Mrs. Archie Johnson. Mrs. W.C. McCritnmon. Mrs. Edwin Hasty. Mrs. Carl Stone and Mrs. Al Schauber. Upon arrival. Miss Faulk was given a white and yellow carnation corsage and the bridal motif was used on the gift table. A floral basket of flowers was on the refreshment table. Miss Faulk opened her gifts and displayed them for everyone to see. The hostesses served fruit punch, miniature sandwiches, cookics and white carnations and babies' breath. Matron of honor was Mrs. Cathy Huff and bridesmaids were Miss Dawn Deese and Miss Joni Burley. They wore gowns of blue and white polyester and carried bouquets of blue and white carnations. Danny Crowley was best man and ushers were Deny Deese and Dean Deese and Jeff Burley. A reception followed the cere mony in the education building of the church. After a short wedding trip the couple will reside in Aberdeen. "Hie bride is an R.N. at Moore Memorial Hospital and the groom is employed at the Sandhills Youth Center. Evangelical Methodist Church. Hostesses for the occasion were Mrs. W.C. McCrimmon, Mrs. Archie Johnson and Mrs. Sam Creech. The refreshment table was cen tered wth a Valentine arrangement of hearts and roses. The guests were served punch by Mrs. Creech and enjoyed cookies, nuts and Valentine candies. The gift table was centered wth a Valentine tree, made of crepe paper, and small hearts. Table cloths decorating the tables were adorned with red hearts made by Mrs. Johnson. Miss Baker was presented a corsage of white carnations with tiny Valentine hearts. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Percy English of Raeford. A graduate of the N. C. School for the Deaf in Morganton. Miss Allen is employed as an IBM key punch operator for the Alcohol. Tobacco and Tax Division in Arlington. The prospective groom is also a grad uate of the N.C. School for the Deaf in Morganton and is em ployed as a linotype operator for the Washington Post. Birthday Chris Phillips Chris Phillips, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sieve Phillips of tast Donaldson Ave., celebrated his 5th birthday Sunday afternoon. Ten friends were invited to his honte for games and refreshments of birthday cake, ice cream and punch, fcach child was remembered with a favor, after Chris had opened his gifts. Joyce Frederick and Gale Howard, owners Mrs. Norris Is Honored At Retirement Luncheon At 11:30 AM February 13. sixty-five well wishing friends and various relatives gathered in the Sink Room of the Fort Bragg Officers' Open Mess to honor Mrs. Marguerite W. Norris of 828 East Prospect Avenue. Raeford. NC. w ho is retiring with over 35 years of Federal Civilian Service. Mrs. Norris has served with the Signal Corps for most of her career and is presently the Administrative Offi cer at US Army Communications Command (USACC) Agency-Ft. Bragg/Installation Communica tions-Electronics (C-E) Office. Among guests present and seated at the head table were: Richard Norris. her husband; Mrs. S.E. Stewart, her sister of Fayetteville: Mr. and Mrs. Burnice Williamson of Rt. 2, Raeford. her brother and sister-in-law; Colonel E.D. "Sam" Rogers. Assistance Chief of Staff. Communications-Electronics. Ft. Bragg; and. CPT Salvatore R. Genova, Commander, USACC Agency-Ft. Bragg/Installation C-E Officer. Floral arrangement for the head table consisted of twelve dark red sweetheart roses set in fern and interspersed with small red velvet beaded hearts and cupids. Mrs. Norris was presented with a bicen tennial corsage of red, white and blue earlier in the day. Guests were invited to enjoy liquid appetizers and. after sociali zing, dined on a delicious lunch of broiled chicken, snow-flake pota toes, buttered green peas, tossed salad, and lime sherbert. Mrs. Norris' career began in September. 1941, when she was temporarily employed as an Under Clerk/Typist, CAF-1. She has seen many good changes at Fort Bragg and in Communications since 1941 and has served under 27 different Commanding Generals. Through diligence, devotion to duty and just plain hard work, Mrs. Norris has attained her present position as a GS-11. She has served as an inspiration to those in lower grades of the Civil Service System and has been an outstanding employee. CPT Genova. her immediate supervisor, first called upon Mr. Gary R. Peoples. Chief, Logistics Division. Mr. Peoples presented Mrs. Norris with a tin bucket of worms, symbolizing all those one time reports that took up to 18 pages of typing and were never heard Irom again. Next, Mr. Wavlon Johnson. Chief. Air Traffic Control Divison (Simmons Army Airfield), present ed Mrs. Norriswith inscribed aerial photos of Simmons Army Airfield and the Control Tower. Mr. Billy Wilkins. Chief. Tele phone Systems Division, brought in a pair of bisque doves. Doves were one of the first means of communi cations utilized by the Signal Corps. He also presented her with an innovative wooden plaque. Mrs. Betty Cashwell. Administra tive Management Division and Chief. Budgets Branch, presented her with an engraved sterling serving tray. CW4 Jeffrey L. Jackson. Jr.. Officer-in-Charge. Telecommuni cations Center Division, made a presentation of a decorative sterling dish. Norris. presented her with a handmade leather purse. Last, but not least. CPT Genova bestowed upon her a sterling charm bracelet which contained charms representing each division - a typewriter for Administra tive Management Division, a tele phone for Telephone Systems Divi sion. a pencil for Logistics Division, an airplane for Air Traffic Control Division, and an IBM punched card for Telecommunications Center Division. He also presented her with a Certificate of Achieve ment and an Outstanding Perfor mance Certificate. In closing. Mrs. Norris extended a humble thank you to everyone who helped make her career so successful. It was with sadness the "first lady" of USACC Agency - Ft. Marriage Announced Mr. and Mrs. Glendon McClure of Shreveport, La. announce the marriage of their daughter. Glenda Gayle to Wade McLaurin Black well. The ceremony took place January 2b in Shreveport. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wade Blackwell of Bossier City. La.; formerly of Raeford. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. McLaurin Clark of Hoke County.
