BICENTENNIAL PLAY? Two fifth grade classes at Raeford Elementary School presented a play called "Salute to America" last Friday. The 63 participants of the play played a large part in researching and gathering their parts which depicted famous people in our nation j history. * District Court Man F ound In Contempt By Judge A man was found in direct contempt of court by District Court Judge Joseph Dupree Friday after he agreed to take a Breathalyzer and blew .20 according to records. Ozell Beatty, of Rt. 1, Raeford, came into court after the docket had been called in a condition Dupree suspected to be intoxi cated. After the Breathalyzer reading had been taken, Dupree found Beatty in direct contempt of court and ordered that he be confined to the Hoke County Jail for one week. Beatty is scheduled to appear before the court tomorrow (Friday) for trial for two cases he was scheduled for Friday. In other cases, Alex James Butler, Rt. 1, Red Springs, was found guilty of DUI. second offense, and was sentenced to six months, suspended for two years and placed on probation for two years, ordered not to drive for 12 1 months, and was fined S250 and costs. Blood alcohol content was .18 according to records. Leroy McKenzie, Rt. 1, Raeford, was found guilty of DUI, fifth offense, after the state dropped charges of resisting arrest and was sentenced to two years, suspended for five years and placed on probation for five years, ordered not to drive for five years, and was fined $750 and costs. He was also found guilty of assaulting an officer and was sentenced to two years, suspended for five years, and placed on probation for five years. This sentence is to begin at the expiration of the previous one. He was also fined costs for the second charge. Ronald Murray McFadgion, Rt. I, Raeford. pleaded guilty to speeding 91 in a 55 MPH zone and sentenced to 60 days, suspended for 12 months, and ordered not to drive for six months except for limited driving privileges and was fined $100 and costs. He also pleaded guilty to a stop sign violation and was fined costs. Billy Theodore Williams, Fay etteville, pleaded no contest to speeding 70 in a 55 MPH zone and prayer for judgment was continued (pr two years upon payment of costs. Herbert McCall. Gibson, plea ded guilty to speeding 65 in a 55 MPH zone and was sentenced to 30 days, suspended and fined $5 and costs. Trudie Bear Young, Charlotte, pleaded guilty to speeding 68 in a 55 MPH zone and was fined costs which were remitted for good cause. John Edward Bethune, Rt. 4. Fayetteville, pleaded guilty to DUI Special Class In Baptist Church The First Baptist Church is offering a Sunday School for exceptional children every Sunday at 9:45 A.M. who may be unable to attend regular Sunday School t classes, Rev. Melvin McLauchlin, Rt. 1, Rae ford, pleaded guilty to a parking violation, and was sentenced to 30 days, suspended and fined $10, and costs. Armon Wilton Williams, Fay etteville, was found not guilty of speeding 66 in a 55 MPH zone. Frederick George Tant, Roles ville, pleaded guilty to DU1 and was sentenced to 90 days, sus pended for 12 months, and ordered not to drive for 12 months except for limited driving privileges and was fined $150 and costs. Blood alcohol content was .27 according to records. Bobby Locklear, Rt. 1, Aber deen, pleaded guilty to exceeding a safe speed, and was fined $15 and costs. Robert Plez Tolbert, Monroe, pleaded guilty to DU1, fourth offense, and was sentenced to two years, suspended for three and one half years, and was placed on probation for three and one half years and ordered not to drive for three years and was fined $750 and costs. Blood alcohol content was recorded a .17. Halvern Singletary. Rt. 2, Rae ford, pleaded guilty to resisting arrest, speeding 60 in a 45 MPH zone, and reckless driving and was sentenced to six months, suspended for 12 months, and was fined $150 and costs. Probable cause was found in a case which Curley Chavis of Maxton was charged with breaking and entering and larceny and he was bound over to Superior Court for action by the grand jury. Charges of receiving were dropped as no probable cause was found. James Landon, Rt. 1, Raeford, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor larceny and was sentenced to not less than one day nor more than two years, suspended for three and one half years and placed on probation for three and one half years and was fined costs. E.V. Monroe. Rt. 1, Raeford. was found guilty of possession of distillery and manufacturing liquor and was sentenced to two years, suspended for five years and placed on probation for five years and fined $500 and costs. Daniel L. McNair. McCain, was found guilty of failure to appear and was sentenced to 30 days, suspended and fined $10 and costs. John Will Mclntyre, Raeford, was found guilty of shoplifting and was sentenced to not less than one day nor more than six months, suspended for three years and was fined $15 restitution and costs. Willie Ballard. Dublin, pleaded guilty to worthless check and was sentenced to 30 days, suspended and fined $12 restitution and costs. James McCrimmon, Rt. 1, Rae ford, was found guilty of breaking and entering and malicious injury to personal property and was sentenced to not less than one day nor more than two years. Mc Crimmon gave notice of appeal. Larry Chavis, Rt. 4. Raeford, was bound over to Superior Court for action by the grand jury after probable cause was found in charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. George Hendrix, Lamont St. Raeford. was found guilty of assault on a female and was sentenced to 60 days, suspended and fined $50 and costs. Hendrix gave notice of appeal.
