Eddie Pennell takes a big cut at a fastball during last week's game with Richmond County. The Bucks could not get into the swing of things and lost the game 11-0. for their first loss of the season. The Bucks' diamondmen were trounced by a tough Richmond County team last week by a 11-0 score and bounced back to take a conference victory from Lumberton last Friday by a narrow 3-2 count. Coach Terry Grier explained that his team had a bad day defensively and could do nothing right against Richmond County. "It was just one of those days where everything that could go wrong did go wrong," he ex plained. "They are not 11 runs better than we are. We figure they have to play us twice more this season (one regular season and probably in the finals of the tournament in late April) and I don't think anyone can beat us three times." he said. The Raiders actually had only two earned runs in the game. The Bucks made 11 errors. David McNeill struck out six Richmond batters on his way to his first loss of the season. Charley Davis was the winning Richmond pitcher and had 14 strikeouts. Allen Thomas was the leading Buck hitter as he was 2-3 at the plate. Thomas struck out 12 batters last Friday and Eddie Pennell and Kenny Carpenter handled the hit ting chores as the Bucks scored two runs in the bottom of the last inning to take a 3-2 decision from the Lumberton Pirates. Pennell was 2-3 and Caipenter knocked in the winning run for the Bucks. "It was Kenny's first and most important hit of the season," said Grier. "The Lumberton win meant a lot to us after being beaten like we were on Tuesday. It restored a lot of confidence to be able to come back and post a win," he said. The victory brought the Buck's record to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play. Hoke played Pinecrest of South ern Pines Tuesday and will battle the Falcons of Seventy-First tomor row (Friday).
