TRAILER BLAZE - Stonewall Fire Department volunteer Ricky Mclnnis douses a mobile home near the county line off Hwy. 211 which erupted in flames about 9:30 P.M. Tuesday. The Red Springs Fire Department responded to the blaze and called for Stonewall when they ran out of water. A bout 20 Stonewall firemen responded, but they were delayed by faulty directions and ended up in Robeson County before finding the fire. No injuries were reported. How would you like to fill your coffee pot in the morning and find a big bumble-bee floating around in the water? This has happened off and on for the past several months. Just outside the back door of the library is the handiest spigot ? not only for coffee water, etc., but for the past few years a family (we guess) of bumble-bees have been spending the night inside the spigot (one or two at the time). Some of them have been killed, and some have perhaps looked for bed space elsewhere. Anyway, they are mis sing. Several of us have almost put the lid on the coffee pot before finding them swimming on top of the water. Maybe if they decide to come back next year, they won't be disturbed. Again, we would like to an nounce and welcome a new addi tion to our library staff, under the Senior Citizens Work Program, Mrs. W.K. Crawley of 708 N. Jackson St. It will be extra nice to have our new folks to go with us to the new library. For you folks who are looking for THESE jobs we can help you with these "Brand New Civil Service Test Tutor" work books. They are Policewoman. Correction Officer, Fireman, F.D., Mail Handler? U.S. Postal Service, Post Office? Clerk and Carrier?U.S. Postal Service. Beginning Office Worker, Carpenter, Clerk-Steno Tran scriber. High School Equivalency Diploma Test. Vocabulary, Spel ling and Grammar. Sanitation Man. How to Pass Employment Test. Certified General Automobile Mechanic, and some of the old ones we have had. You will also find in the library material on the new "Each one teach one" program, in which volunteers can teach adults to read. The Library has the workbooks which the student and tutors need and will be handling them for the Literacy Council. We hope our library patrons have been noticing the library building as it progresses. You can walk around inside and imagine where things will be placed and where you will be able to sit and relax while you enjoy a new book, a magazine, do a term paper or just to browse. IN MOURNING FOR OVERDUEBOOKS Overdue books may be returned to the Hoke County Library the week of April 4-11 without penalty. The library staff this week issues a special plea and appeal as follows: "We at the Hoke County Library are in deep mourning for our overdue books. Are you able to comfort us? "Most people in Hoke County have shown great pride in their coming new library building, and we are grateful for their sympa thetic concern. Unfortunately, however, a few people evidence an unthinking lack of consideration for their neighbors by forgetting their responsibilities as library patrons. "Do you like friends to borrow your favorite books and then keep them? "Or your only lawnmower and then stow it away in their garage? "Forgetfulness can be under stood. but deliberately keeping someone else's possession after being duly notified causes that someone grief. And the books in the library are to be shared by everyone in the county. "Imagine the extent of our anguish with so many dear volumes overdue?and we so regret depriv ing your neighbors of their pre ferred reading material. "Are you able to comfort us? Renew books easily by telephone. Return your overdue books through the book drop, secretively, under cloak of night. Return them bra zenly to the circulation desk April 5-10 at no charge. "Please help us and your neigh bors by looking again for those overdue library books and return ing them to their rightful home. "We at the Hoke County Library will be eternally grateful for your kindest respects." BOOKMOBILE SCHEDULE Ashley Heights?April 6 Mrs. Soper. Josephine Parks. Katie Cameron. Elizabeth Lide.
