Stonewall Report By Mn. Junes O. Miller 1 hank you for the calls and nice comments regarding last week's report. I can vouch for a good circulation of The -News Journal in the Stonewall area. However, my apoligies for a few incorrect names. This report is turned in to The News Journal in long hand, there fore I think they are to be commended for their ability to decipher my writing so well. The lovely weather over the holiday served to enhance the beauty of the occasion, and since this holiday was a sacred one our news this week will begin with our area churches Sunday's Obser vances. Sandy Grove, Parker and Cal vary United Methodist Churches held their Sunrise Service at Camp Rockfish. The beautiful early morn beside the lake with the huge bare cross emphasized an alive and risen Savior. Ephesus Baptist Church held their Sunrise service at the cemetery in commemoration of that cemetery long ago where loved ones found the tomb of Jesus empty. Both services had a touching, dramatic and wonderful impact in depiciting the true Easter Celebra tion, and were well attended. Early morning refreshments were served afterward. Ephesus' had a special childrens program later and Sandy Grove resumed regular worship services. Hospital news this week reports: Steve McClanahan at Cape Fear Valley. Steve was seriously injured last week in a motorcycle accident. Glad to report he is improving an,d wish for him a speedy and complete recovery. Mrs. Danny Chason has been undergoing test as an out patient at Duke Hospital in Durham during the past few days. She hopes to return home on Tuesday. John Allen Jones still a patient at the V.A. Hospital in Fayetteville. Coming, goings and events in the community during the last week were: Mrs. Rudy Cobb and children Barry, and Amy of Edenton came Wednesday and stayed through Saturday with her mother, Mrs. John Allen Jones. They visited her father at the V.A. Hospital during her stay, and on Friday she and her mother visited with Mr. and Mrs. C.D. Oliver at Holden Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Stamps McFadyen of Fayetteville visited with cousins in this area Thursday night. Mrs. Jerry Fail from Statesboro, Georgia spent from Wednesday until Sunday with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Buddy Butler. On Friday she was joined by her husband and his brother Clifford. They all left for Capon. Virginia on Sunday to visit other relatives. Other guests of Mr. and Mrs. Butler was Mrs. Lula Butler a patient at Sanford Conval escent Nursing Home, guest for the weekend. Their sons. Mr. and Mrs. Randy Butler and children Lisa and Christy and Robert Butler both from Raeford on Sunday. The Rev. Gordon Ruggles visited with Doug McFadyen and Steve McClanahan at Cape Fear Valley Hospital on Wednesday and Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Bradley Buie and children Mary Pat. and Bart from Raleigh spent the holidays with her mother Mrs. O.B. Maxwell. Sr. Mrs. Annie Bell Adcox spent Friday night with Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Davis. She left Saturday to spend the week in High Point with her son Mr. and Mrs. Quentin Davis. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Walker from Durham visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Walker and her parents Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Teal of Raeford over the holidays. On Sunday they all attended the 35th wedding anniversary celebra tion of Mr. and Mrs. Teal at the Teal home in Raeford. Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Miller observed their fifteenth wedding anniversary on Thursday, April 15, with their children Brian and Steve. On Saturday they celebrated with dining and dancing at the Sheraton Inn in Fayetteville. We wish for both of these couples many more happy anniversaries to come. Mrs. Delauris Ellis, Social Director at Ephesus Baptist Church reported a most enjoyable Easter Egg Hunt for the young people on Saturday afternoon at the church. Three egg hunts were held according to age group with approximately 70 children attend ing. Games of volleyball and badminton were played intermit tingly. A picnic was held after wards. The Junior Class at Sandy Grove also reported a fun time at their egg hunt on Saturday. They enjoyed a party at the closing of the festivities. Mr. and Mrs. Robert O. Wood cox accompanied by their son and his wife Mr. and Mrs. David Woodcox, visited their daughter Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dudash and sons Bobby, Allen, Brian and Chris in Sterling Park, Virginia over the holidays. They all toured Washing ton, D.C. on Sunday. Am glad to report that Billy Haselden, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Robert O. Woodcox is doing fine following eye surgery Thursday in Columbia, S.C. Billy's mother is the former Peggy Woodcox. Mrs. Frances Blake and son Kenny of Raeford visited with Mr. and Mrs. Larry Woodcox on Saturday. Sunday they were guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Gearheart and family in Parkton and Mr. and Mrs. Robert ft. Woodcox and family in Red Springs. Monday night, Mrs. Blake and son visited with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Robert O. Woodcox. Sunday happenings were: Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Ellis and son Lynn and Mr. and Mrs. David Jackson spent the day at Holden Beach. Bernice Williamson visited his father R.H. Williamson at the Forest Hill Rest Home in Fayette ville. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hartman and daughter Rhonda of Fayetteville were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Walls and sons Denny and Joey. Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Irion, Sr. visited Mrs. Anna Mae Hall in Fayetteville. Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Davis and daughters Carol Ann and Kimberly visited his mother Mrs. Ruby Davis in Rockingham. Dwight Jackson. Joanna Shield. Greg Jackson and Brian Daniels enjoyed the day at Holden Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Spears attended the Easter Cantata at Campground Methodist Church. Mrs. Stanley Crawley and Mrs. Dora Chason spent the day with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Crawley. In the afternoon they all visited Mrs. Leona Chason. Glad to report Mrs. Chason was feeling better. Mrs. William Harris and sons Johnny and Allen left to spend the week with her parents Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Smith at Top Sail Island, N.C. Holiday dinner guests of Mrs. Chester Beasley were her children and their families, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Daniels and sons David and Kenneth, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Beasley and children Mackie and Shawn, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy McNeil and daughter Delana, Mrs. Helen Jackson and daughters. Melissa and Andrea, Mr. and Mrs. Buck Beasley and son Killy, Danny Beasley and Mark Beasley. Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Irion, Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. Odell Miller and children Cindy, Michael, Cathi, Susan, Eddie and Steven enjoyed a Sunday cookout at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Irion, Jr. and children Wendy and John. The occasion was in honor of Wendy's sixth birthday. An Easter Bunny Birthday cake was served after the cookout. Mr. and Mrs. Bucky Beasley and son Billy enjoyed a cookout in Mrs. Beasley's sister's honor, Mrs. Nancy Oldham, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Long in Raeford. The U.M.W. from Sandy Grove enjoyed singing and participating in the services at The Rest Home in Raeford on Sunday afternoon. Miss Robin Maxwell, a student at East Carolina, is spending this week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Maxwell. Mrs. Bertha Hendrix and David visited her daughter and family Mr. and Mrs. John P. Barwick in Charlotte on Monday and Tuesday of this week. Visiting Carowinds Amusement Center in Charlotte over the holidays were: On Saturday, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy McNeil and Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Simmons and children Randy and Beverly of Fayetteville. On Monday, The Intermediate Class from Sandy Grove Methpdist Church. Those enjoying the outing were: Debbie Cashwell, Charles Livingston, Danny Hayward, Elaine Browning, Wayne Hager, Randy and Beth Black, and Cindy Miller. Chaperones were, Mrs. Pat Beasley, Mrs. Nancy Oldham and Miss Delana Oldham. Praise is extended to: the secretaries in our community, this being National Secretary Week. We salute you! Also, Mr. Autry, Hoke County school superintendent, and mem ber of our community, I salute you, other school officials and the grand teachers in our school system! Hoke The last workshop session this month to train reading tutors in the Laubach method will be Friday. April 23 beginning at 9:30 A.M. in the South Hoke Community Center. The sessions are sponsored by the Hoke County Literacy Council in its campaign to teach adults how to read. The next meeting of the Literacy Council is Monday, May 3 at 3:30 P.M. at the Cameron Heights Neighborhood Community Center on North Main Ext. The public is invited.
