Coach Disappointed Bucks Beaten By Patriots, Falcons The Hoke High baseball team dropped two decisions last week at the hands of Pinecrest and Seventy First of Fayetteville. The Patriots handed the Bucks an 8-1 loss in what Hoke coach Terry Grier called, "The most disappointing game we've played all year". Grier said he felt like the players quit after the first inning when they were down 5-0. David McNeill was the loser for the Bucks and his record dropped to 4-3 for the year. "McNeill couldn't find the plate as he walked five batter in the first inning," said Grier. He said it was hard to explain, but he felt the players were down before the game and just gave up after falling behind in the first inning. The Hoke team came in fifth place in the conference meet last week, but coach John Buchholz thinks the eight trackmen who will compete in the sectional meet will probably go on the regional meet in Greenville later in the month. ? ? ? ? Baseball coach Terry Grier admitted this week that he is now working on a building program for the Bucks' 1976-77 team by using freshmen and sophomores along with the juniors and seniors. It's good to hear that Terry is constantly thinking of the future. His work with the team this year has been very commendable. Kathy McMillan led the way as the Hoke girl's track team won the 1 sectional meet held in New Bern last Friday. Kathy won her usual three events and helped out on the winning 880 relay team. In the sectional, the top two finishers in each event competes in the state * meet which will be held here tomorrow night (Friday). Judging from past results, the lady Bucks should have no trouble capturing another state crown. Good luck to the team! The ideal sports fan (fanatic) is not the type of person who is only interested in one sport, but gets the fullest enjoyment out of every kind of athletic event. There are various problems that confront these fans, which have been discussed in the past, and there are certain ways that he likes to dress. The fan's wardrobe varies as much as his mood as it tends to change along with the events, as everyone else changes theirs according to the weather. The all - season sports fan's wardrobe would consist of articles from every sports event he attends. The next time you see an individual walking down the street with a baseball cap with a face guard attached; shoulder pads; hockey shirt; soccer shoes; basketball pants; sweat socks; a tennis racquet in one hand and a golf club in the other; and ski. attached to his backpack, don't mention anything concerning sports unless you've got at least an hour to waste. These people relish the subject and could go on for days talking about any sport you can think of and supply you with various facts about each one. One should be aware of the fact that he should be very careful when talking to the fanatic because he might whip out his boxing glove from his pocket and let you have it if you don't agree with him. These people are not sick or crazy, just merely falling into the American way of life.
