2^ ^^\J(LaaJjL Mrs. Carllon Niven, Social Reporter, 875-3785 Shower Fetes ' Kathryn Gillis Miss Kathryn Gillis of the Gala tia Community, was honored with a floating lingerie shower on May 8 given by Mrs. Raymond Parks at her home in Fayetteville. A bridal motif was used in decorations throughout the home. Miss Gillis was presented with a corsage of white daisies. The refreshment table was cen tered with an arrangement of pink roses. Mrs. Parks served bridal cakes, orange balls, nuts and punch. Miss Gillis will be married to George Hall of Mount Holly, on June 5 at Galatia Presbyterian Church. 'Honor Volunteers Public Affairs Department mem bers of the Raeford Junior Women's Club gave a cookout luncheon Saturday at the home of Carolyn Hedgpeth to show their appreciation to residents of Sand hill Youth Center and Vista volun teers who helped with painting the fire hydrants, a department bicen tennial project. Williams-Tomlin Miss Patricia Sue Tomlin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ashby Sherwood Tomlin of Charlottes ville, Va., formerly of Hoke Coun ty, and Paul Ray WUliams of Kannapolis, were married on May 3 at the Marriage Chapel in Dillon, S.C. Sara M. Moffitt performed the double ring ceremony. The bride was attired in a formal gown of peach double knit. The newlyweds reside at Route 3, Cameron. Mr. Williams is sta tioned at Ft. Bragg. Bridge Mrs. Lomont Members of her bridge club and one visitor, Mrs. Bobby Carter, met with Mrs. William Lamont on ? Tuesday evening of last week. She served dessert and iced tea when guests arrived. Luncheon Honors June Bride-Elect Miss Kim Jordan was hostess for a luncheon Saturday at her home honoring Miss Gayle Edwards of Eden, June 19 bride-elect of Frank Williamson. The buffet table was decorated with a straw basket filled with yellow and white daisies, babies' breath and pompons. Small luncheon tables held miniature arrangements of yellow and white pompons. Miss Edwards received a corsage of white carnations and a gift of crystal. Out of town guests included the honoree's mother, Mrs. B. Douglas Edwards, and Mrs. J.C. Nash, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin C. Nash of 1007 Fulton St., Raeford, is participating in Opera tion "Solid Shield '76" aboard the tank landing ship USS Manitowoc, homeported in Little Creek, Va. The two-week joint exercise off the North Carolina and Georgia coasts involves 36 ships and more than 50,000 men and women from all branches of the Armed Forces. The graduates are Charles fcdward Barefoot Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Barefoot Sr.; Elizabeth Faye Jordan, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. R.M. Jordan of 110 Fulton; and Jeanette Kelly Jordan daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Julius F. Jordan of 315 W. Edinborough Barefoot majored in politics and history and received the B.A. degree. He was a student government representative and treasurer of the student body. He also served as Senator for Poteat Residence House. _ Elizabeth Jordan majored in history and received the B.A. degree. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's top scholastic fraternity. Jeanette Jordan majored in physical education and received the B.S. degree. Three Raeford area persons were among 445 graduated from Pem broke State University this month. The graduates and their fields of study are: Candance Autry Adams, music education; Pamler Evans Hart, elementary education; and Timo thy Augustus Hawkes, physical education. Two Raeford area persons were among 275 who received degrees during commencement exercises at Meredith College. They were graduated cum laude with a 3.2 academic average. Teresa Jane Barnes received a B.Mus., piano. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julian Barnes of Rockfish. Ann Swindell Upchurch received a B.S., biology. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. Joe Upchurch of Raeford, (Jenevieve McCormick Genevieve McCormick recently received the Bachelor of Arts Degree from Bennett College for Women in Greensboro. A history major, she is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred D. McCormick of Rt. 3, Red Springs, N.C. Her collegiate involvements in cluded membership(s) in Marshall Board, Drama Club, Dance Club, Student Government Association, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, and Pre - Alumnae Council. Calvin McNeill, Rt. 3, Raeford, has been selected as a recipient of one of 15 University of North Carolina Board of Governor's medical scholarships for 1976-77. McNeill will attend the UNC School of Medicine at Chapel Hill. Rachel Locklear, a Hoke County adult high school graduate, was a speaker at Sandhills Community College's Recognition Ceremony last week attended by over 400 persons. Mrs. Ollie Augustoni of Raeford received a certificate of recognition for completing 30 courses. Omission Alice Lilley Blue was inad vertently omitted from the list of honor graduates at Pembroke State University published in last week's College News. Mrs. Blue was graduated magna cum laude with a degree in business administration. Mental Clinic Closed 21st The Sandhills Mental Health Center (Moore ? Hoke unit) will be closed on Friday, May 21 due to an area administration meeting, it was announced Monday. The center will be open as usual on Monday, May 24.
