Best - Trogdon Vows Spoken Saturdav Miss Janie Rae Trogdon, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Louis Trogdon of Route 6, Asheboro, and Martin Frederick Best, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Frederick Best of Raeford, spoke their marriage vows in a double ring ceremony Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Pleasant Ridge United Church of Christ in Ramseur. The Rev. John Rhodes officiated. Wedding music was presented by Miss Velma Allen of Ramseur, organist, and Bob Byrd of Bunn level, soloist. Given in marriage by her father, the bride was attended by Miss Karen Trogdon as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Heidi Walker of Raleigh, and Mrs. Trudy Lanier of Asheboro. Honorary bridesmaids were the Misses Joanna and Janet Best of Raeford, sisters of the bridegroom. Mr. Best served as best man for his son. Ushers were Calvin Boger of Ramseur, George Lasley of Charlotte, and Rick Walker of Raleigh. Following the ceremony, the bride's parents entertained with a reception in the church fellowship hall. Friday evening, the bridegroom's parents were hosts for a post ? rehearsal party at the Holiday Inn in Asheboro. After a wedding trip to the Outer Banks, the couple will reside in Charlotte. The bride is a graduate of N.C. Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. The bridegroom, a graduate of Hoke County High School, was graduated Saturday from N.C. State University at Raleigh, with a B.S. degree in electrical engineer ing. He has been employed by Duke Power Company in Char lotte. Mrs. Martin Frederick Best Julio Ann Gibson Rrido-Floot Fotod Miss Julia Ann Gibson, whose marriage to Jerry Tucker will take place in June, was honored on three occasions last week. On Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Upchurch entertained at a cookout at their home for Miss Gibson and her fiance, jerry Tucker. The buffet table was. centered with an arrangement of yellow flowers. Twenty couples were invited for supper. Miss Gibson was presented a corsage and an ice cream freezer from the hosts. Miss Peggy Swanson, bride-elect of Charles Crowder, was also remembered with a gift. Friday evening Miss Gibson was honored at a dinner party at the home of Mrs. J.W. Walker. Hos tesses were Mrs. T.B. Lester, Mrs. William Lamont and Mrs. J.W. McPhaul. The dining table was centered with an arrangement of roses, flanked by lighted tapers. Two other tables were centered with lighted tapers and small arrang ments of mixed summer flowers. Lester Recital Mrs. T.B. Lester presented her music students in a studio recital at her home on West Donaldson Avenue on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 4 till 7. Parents of the students were invited, and each student played six numbers. Those presented at the recital were: Connie Hollingsworth, Patricia Schiebe, Mary Dees, Lynne Harrell, Cindy Gibson. Bob bie Jane Hunt, Greg Jackson. Donnie Goodman, Alice Adkinson, Melinda Quick, Judy Hollings worth, Felicia Parks, Cynthia Haire, and Angela Hargrove. After dinner guests returned to the sitting room and the honoree opened gifts presented from the hostesses. On Thursday evening Miss Gib son was honoree at a shower at the home of Mrs. John Campbell. Guests were members of the bridge club of her mother, Mrs. W.T. Gibson. After a dessert course was served and the honoree had opened her gifts, the club played bridge. At the conclusion of the game Mrs. Gib son was the high scorer. Bridal Shower For Miss Crawford Miss Karen Crawford, bride elect of Chip Carmines of Hamp stead, Va., was honored on Wednesday evening with a party held at the home of Mrs. George Wood. Co-hostesses were Mrs. James Douglas. Mrs. Wilton Wood and Mrs. Wyatt Upchurch. Miss Crawford was presented with a shower of miscellaneous gifts from the hostesses and other guests. Guests were invited into the dining room for refreshments. The table was centered with a silver candelabrum and epergne holding lighted tapers and an arrangement of mixed spring flowers. Decorated bridal squares, nuts and mints were served with punch. The honoree presented each hostess with a gift she had made, a macrame hanging basket holder. Mrs. Davis is the former Martha Jo Teal. ketirment Honors For Furman Clark Furman Clark, better known as "Shortie", has recently retired after 28 years as manager of the Soil Conservation Service with the U.S. Federal Government here in Hoke County. On Friday evening Mr. Clark was honored when the District Office in Lumberton gave a retirement dinner for him. The 70 officials and friends who were guests remembered Mr. Clark with several gifts after the dinner hour. Among those from Raeford and Hoke County attending with Mr. and Mrs. Clark were three of their children, Miss Susan Clark of Greenville, and Bill and Cary Clark of Raeford; also, Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Young, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Strother, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Gibson, Mr. and Mrs. D.R. Huff Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Wilson McBryde, Mr. and Mrs. James Wood, Mr. and Mrs. Hardin Crouch, Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Hayes, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hendrix, Make Walters, Clarence Lytch and Miss Sarah Lytch. Mr. Gark was also honored when the members of the Hoke Extension Service, The Agricultur al Dept. of Animal and Health Inspection Service employees, the Veterans Service Officer, and several members of the Agriculture Dept. of Agricultural Stabilization & Conservation office met at the County Office Building for a social hour recently. Refreshments were served from an appointed table, and Mr. Clark was remembered with a gift from those present. Raeford JWC Flas Meeting The Raeford Junior Woman's Club held its meeting Monday evening at the Hoke Civic Center under the direction of its president Mrs. Norman McKenzie. Conservation Department in charge of the program presented Hobert Freeman, who has a black belt in karate. Mr. Freeman gave a brief history of karate and demon strated self defense techniques, assisted by his wife, Linda. Saturday afternoon, members of the Home Life Department served homemade ice cream and cake to patients at the Open Arms Rest Home. Mrs. Ethel Lee Carthens returned from Hartford, Conn., where she attended the graduation exercises of her daughter, Miss Willie Car thens, at Central Connecticut State College the weekend of May 16.
