COUNTY SCHOOLS RAE FORD N.C. OL YMPICS HOUND-Fifteen county students left tost week bound for the Special Olympics state competition in Raleigh. Stonewall Report By Mrs. James O. Miller To the ones in the Stonewall Area that 1 have tailed to contact thus far for news items 1 apologize. Having lived here all my life 1 realize there are still members of our community that I do not know. To those of you who have helped by calling me. "It is most appreciated. Thank you." Thus to members of the Faircloth Familv and friends, apologies are extended for my failure to provide news mention of last Sunday's activities. The Faircloth and Friends Reunion was held last Sunday at Ephesus Baptist Church. A large gathering enjoyed the picnic style dinner at 1 o'clock. Immediately after dinner a short business meeting was conducted in the church. After which everyone present enjoyed music and singing by the Christian-Aires from * Fayetteville. Attending from as far away as Ashland. Va. were Mr. and Mrs. George Faircloth and family. Also attending were relatives from , Wilmington. N.C. A prize was given to Mrs. Milla Allen from Lumberton. in honor of her being the oldest Faircloth decendent. Mrs. Allen is 78 years old. Nice weather, good food, excellent sing ing. and enjoyable fellowship provided everyone w ith a wonderful Sunday afternoon. Sermon Topic at our churches on Sunday were: Sandy Grove Methodist - "An Empty House" by pastor Rev. Gordon Ruggles. Ephesus Baptist - "The Church With The Victory" Acts 2:41-47 by the Pastor. Rev. Willard Single tary. A reminder that Revival Services are being conducted this week at Ephesus. Evangelist Pastor is the Rev. Gene Tuten from Madison. N.C.. pastor of the Comer Chapel Baptist Church. Services begin each evening at "": 30 p.m. Continuing through Saturday - Special Group singing will be featured each night. A covered dish dinner will be held at the church 5 p.m. on Saturday. The public is cordially, invited to attend their . Revival Services. Happenings last week in our community: Visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. James O. Miller last Wednes day evening were: Charles Miller and son Brian from Altus. Oklahoma. Mike Miller from Shannon, and Mr. and Mrs. Martin Scarboro. Jr. front Raeford. Mrs. Luther Jackson along with other relatives visited with Mr. and Mrs. Wade Hendrix in Charlotte several days last week. Rev. Willard Strickland visited Mrs. Nannie Wickline last Wednesday Mrs. Wickline has not been feeling well, we are sorry to report. Her visitors over the weekend were Mr. and Mrs. George Caddell. Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Irion. Jr. and children Wendy and John left last Wednesday to spend a week with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Henry Reckow and other relatives in Brethren. Michigan. They went especially to attend the wedding of Mrs. Irion's cousin. Mr. and Mrs. Sonny Hendrix of . Laurinburg had supper last Thurs day night with his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Hendrix. The young people in our area that attends Scurlock Elementary ? School enjoyed a fun time partici pating in their Field Day program on Friday. This tidbit of news, I promised to mention, was reported by Susan Miller and Joe Stevens. After hearing a detailed report on 1 their day's activities the following comment is prompted. Modern Man has found, or is finding ways of harnessing practically all fields of energy. However, I am certain if man would concentrate on one field in particular "that being sucessfully able to convert and recycle the energy generated by our young sters," Imagine the possibilities! Results - Definitely no more energy Crisis! Mrs. Cleo Haywood from Candor visited with Mrs. Leona Chason on Friday. Am sorry to report Mrs. Chason is not feeling well. Other members of our community sick during the week were: Mrs. Lizzie Chason, Mrs. Grover McMillan, and Miss Ida Graves. To all of these having been mentioned and any that I have not heard about. "We hope you are all feeling better soon." Mrs. John Allen Jones visited Mr. and Mrs. C.D. Oliver and Mr. and Mrs. John Henry McNeil at Holden Beach over the weekend. Miss Nancy Anderson from Red Springs spent the weekend with Miss Selena Livingston. Mr. and Mrs. Sherwood Todd and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Pickler and son Danny spent the weekend at Holden Beach. Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Melin and children Charles and Kimberly were w eekend guests of her mother, Mrs. O.B. Maxwell, Sr. Mr. and Mrs. Odell Miller and children were Sunday dinner guests of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Irion. Sr. Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Hayes visited with Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hayes and family in Hartsville, S.C. on Sunday. They went especially to see Mrs. Hayes, their daughter-in-law, who was discharged from the hospital on Saturday. They report she is doing fine. Cathy Chason, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hallie Chason participat ed in the Sunnybrook Day Care Center graduation exercises at L'pchurch Jr. High School Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. David Jackson from Fayetteville visited in the home of Her parents Mr. and Mrs. C.L. Ellis Sunday. Mrs. Sue Robbinson and Mr. and Mrs. Hulon were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. James C. Miller. Mrs. Ellen Jane Stevens, Misses Ida and Sallie Graves, Johnny Graves, John Frank and Robert McPhail were among the large numbers from Ephesus Baptist Church that reported attending and enjoying very much the singing at Pittman Grove Baptist Church Sunday night. I join with our community in expressing sympathy to the members of Mrs. Lida Hendrix Jackson's family for the loss of their loved one. Mrs. Jackson passed awav Sundav night after a long illness. She had observed her 71st birthday with several members of her family on Friday. A Memorial Service will be conducted by Pastor Ciordon Ruggles and Rev. Kelly' Wilson of Raeford 2 p.m. Wednes day at Sandy Grove Methodist Church. The Mildouson Extension Homemakers Club met at the Community House on Monday night of this week. Mrs. Mary Adams and Mrs. Lib Tolar were Co-hostesses. The progTam was entitled "Home Is Where The Hurt Is", and stressed accident prevention and safety in the home. Nine members were present. Refreshments were served after the meeting. This coming Sunday will conclude Rev. Gordon Ruggles' stay as pastor at Sandy Grove and Parkers United Methodist Church. Other church members join with me in expressing our "Very Best Wishes" to Rev. and Mrs. Ruggles and their daughter Emily as they leave us for their new destination in Ohio. Over the weekend I noticed my oldest daughter preparing a book report on "The Great Expecta tion". As this goes to press the great expectation at our home for the children is the wonderful red circled date of June 3rd, next Thursday. The last day of school! I might add for me it is September 7th, first day of school! Just kidding children, am looking forward to it also. Take care everyone and have a nice week. State Plan On Aging Ready For Public Comment The North Carolina Office for Aging will conduct a series of public hearings on the fiscal year 1177 State Plan for Titles III and VII of the Older Americans Act. The hearing in this area will be held in Laurinburg at the Scotland County Memorial Library on May 27 at 10:00 a.m. The library is located at 312 West Church St. The purpose of the hearing is to give citizens the opportunity to comment of the activities for older people as proposed in the State Plan. All comments and recom mendations presented at these hearings will be compiled, summa rized, and sent to the Governor for his review, prior to his approval of the Plan. Complete copies of the State Plan are located in the offices of the Council of Governments in each of the seventeen planning regions. In this area, the Plan may be reviewed at the offices of the Lumber River Council of Governments, III West Fifth St., Lumberton. For more information on the hearing in this area, contact John W. Strawcutter, program administrator, Lumber River Council of Governments, at 738-8104.
