These children are headed for the finish line in the 50 yard dash event. Rack fish News By Mrs. A. A. Mclnnis The usual services were held at Tabernacle Church during the week and the past Sunday. The painters among the members of the church were busy painting on the inside of the Fellowship Hall last Saturday and the women did their part by giving them a picnic dinner. Pit (man Grove Church had special music last Sunday by the Frazier girls, Julia and Joan and Don Brock. It was very good. A.W. Pitt man was speaker for the worship service. Tabernacle Church presented Bibles to the High School graduates last Sunday. Those receiving the Bibles were Debbie Dees. Patty Gibson, Rachael Gibson, Janet Morgan. Patty Harris, Virginia Brock, and Ray Jones. Presentation was made by S.S. Supt. Roscoe Bundy. Congratulations to all of those graduates and may they all go on to higher things in Christian service working to make this world a belter place to live Mrs. Gertrude McKinnon of Cumberland was a guest of Mrs. Martin Wood last Saturday afternoon. She also visited Mrs. Robert Wood. Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Caddell of Raeford visited his sister Miss Mary Caddell and his brother Harry Caddell of Turnout last Sunday p.m. Mr. and Mis. M.L. Wood went to Columbia, S.C. last week and visited a lot of other places sight seeing as they toured around in South Carolina. Mrs. Aubry Caddis' mother Mrs. Freddie Hudson of Spring Lake was a guest of Mr. and Mrs. Gaddis and sons Ricky. Tom and Danny the past weekend. She was here to see her grandson Tom Gaddis graduate from Hoke County High School. Mr. and Mrs. F..K. Hmmons celebrated Mrs. Susan Stephens birthday with a dinner Sunday. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Br ill. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Hayes and daughter Joan, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford and son Johnny. Mrs. Stephens received many gifts and good wishes and may she have many more happy birthdays. BIRTHDAY Chuck Ch a sons' father Karl Chason gave Chuck a hamburger cookout on his IOth birthday last Thursday. One of his guests was his Uncle Ricky Wilson, a number of his young friends. Mr. and Mrs. CM. Chason. Mr. and Mrs. DeMont Long, Larry Chason. Mrs. Long presented him with a birthday cake, he received many nice gifts and all his friends and relatives wish for him many many more happy birthdays. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wood and children visited Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Calcutt of Pinehurst on Sunday. Mrs. A.W. Wood and her grandson Don Wood visited Mr. and Mrs. Laval Osteen and Dr. and Mrs. Thad Davis of Dillon. S.C. last Sunday. Guests of Mrs. Wood last Friday p.m. were Mrs. Billy Cox and son Tripp of Route 4. Raeford. Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Beasley of Bonnie Doone were guests of her parents Mr. and Mrs. L B. Bundy Sunday afternoon. Thomas Mclnnis and his mother had as their Sunday dinner guests, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Mclnnis of Raeford and Mr. and Mrs. James Mclnnis of Fayetteville, Mr. and Mrs. Angus Mclnnis of Wagram were their guests Sunday night. D.F. Mclnnis of Raeford visited Mr. and Mrs. L.H. Koonce while in Rockfish Sunday. Mrs. C.S. Pickett of Lafayette Village and her daughter Marilyn who is Mrs. Russ Haney and her daughter Annette were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Tillman one day last week. Mrs. Dorr, Harold Tillmans mother, who spent sometime in Fayetteville is now with her daughter in Wallace. Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Caddell of Raeford visited Thomas Mclnnis and his mother Saturday afternoon and Thomas took him lo Parkton to look at antiques. When Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Cad del I visited his sister and brother at Turnout last week they came by Johns Station and stopped for a short visit with Mrs. lilva Barnes. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Priest of Lakcwood Road were guests of Miss Mary Priest and her brothers Walter and Francis Priest Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Ted Priest was a stranger to them for they had only been married since Easier. Sandra and Shirley Allen of Charleston, S.C. spent the weekend with their mother Mrs. Johnny Allen and their sister Teresa. Mrs. Tracy Garner of Carthage spent Sunday with her mother Mrs. R.H.Gibson. Mrs. R.V. Tanner spent the past weekend with Mr. and Mrs. David Gibson and Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Gibson and children of Shelby. Mrs. W.A. Fowler and Mrs. Henry Fowler visited Mr. and Mrs. Wade Ray Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Smith Mclnnis and Mrs. Jim Maxwell of Rt. 4, Raeford and their granddaughter Jennifer Lancaster, of Raleigh were Rockfish visitors Sunday p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Koonce visited his sister and brother - in - law. Mr. and Mrs. Furman Martin of Fayetteville Saturday. GRANGE The Wayside Grange will meet this coming Friday night at eight o'clock at the home of Thomas Mclnnis. Remember it is Friday night June 4th and all members are urged to be present. Shirley and Sandra Allen had as their guest die past weekend Faye Daniels of Virginia Beach. Shirley and Sandra work in Charleston, S.C. but spend some weekends at home. Mrs. R.H. Gibson Jr. and Mrs. Neda May Williams visited Mrs. Jenny Town send of St. Pauls Monday afternoon and when they came back from St. Pauls, they went to see Mr. and Mrs. T.C. Jones and Miss Sarah Patterson. Mrs. Demp Ray and sons. D.B. and Martin, were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. KP. Ritter last Sunday. Those attending the graduation of Debbie Johnson who graduated from Central Carolina Technical Institute and Mike Johnson who graduated from Hoke Co. High School were their grandparents, Mrs. Truman Howell, Mr. Charles Johnson, Mrs. Mae Johnson of Indiana, and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Harper of Fkuida. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Hawkes visited in Laurinburg Sunday afternoon. Among those they visited were Mr^ Ruth Bouyer and daughter Juanita Bouyer. also Mrs. Bouyer's daughter and husband Mr. and Mrs. Ronald June was there from Sioux. Mo. Also his father and mother were there. * COMMENT Tlie bigger the better is not always true but if we have the right motive in doing anything it will usually turn out right. lumber Bridge News By Lib Sumner Sunday being the fifth Sunday there was no service at the Baptist or Presbyterian churches. Although the attendance at Sunday school at both churches was very good. The Vacation Bible School will be held at the Presbyterian Church. The Baptist and Rex Presbyterian churches will meet with them. June 13-18 each evening at 7:30. All the young people are urged to attend. The dinner held Saturday by the Vol. Fire Department and The Ladies Auxiliary was enjoyed by a large crowd. The money collected from plates and Bake sale was over SI800.00. We would like to take this opportunity to thank those who worked all day cooking etc.. and, also, those who purchased dinner to make this a success. Mrs. N.H.G. Balfour spent several days last week in Raleigh with her daughter and family. Dr. and Mrs. Major Goodman, Sean and Scot Goodman. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Maxwell of Dundarrach and Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Covington of Fayetteville spent the weekend in Raleigh with their sister, Mr. and Mrs. Jon Evans. Allison and Susan. Mr. Evans is a patient at Rex Hospital and underwent surgery Wednesday. Mrs. John Covington left Monday to spend this week with them. Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Wood of Florida are visiting her brother, Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Quick. They spent Saturday at Veterans Hospital, Durham with their sister, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Mize of Red Springs. Mr. Mizc has been a patient at the hospital for the past month and is reported in serious condition. Miss Debbie Nobles of Fayetteville spent Monday with Miss Pamela Sumner. ? Mrs. Ethel D. Gibson and Mrs. Evelyn Damus of Oxford visited Mrs. S.E. Sumner Monday afternoon. Mrs. Damus spent several days with Mrs. Gibson. ? Mrs. Jack Hamilton of Lumberton spent Sunday with her mother, Mrs. A.F. Tolar. Mrs. H.E. Horton left Friday to spend several days with her son, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Horton in Baltimore. Mr. and Mrs. Stanton Wyllie of Texas spent Monday night with Mr. and Mrs. John Balfour and Johnny Balfour. Mrs. John Balfour attended a Colonial Tasting Luncheon in Laurinburg Saturday. Personnel Shake-up Fred Williams, vice-president of personnel at Knit-Away, announc ed Monday that due to being overstaffed in the personnel department, there will be a reorganization to cut costs. About 200 people were involved in a general layoff in early March of this year. "We had to cut loose-50 or 60 management people in the layoff earlier, and we now think we are overstaffed in the; personnel department," he said. We need to reorganize the personnel department in order to take the costs out of it," he added. Williams said In March that the layoff was due to ? slowdown in demand for the type of knit weai that Knit-Away produces. He announced that the position of personnel manager, held b) George J. (Dick) Lovett, Jr., ha4 been eliminated at the Raeford plant. Williams said they had toft Lovett about two weeks ago of th? decision.
