Lumbee-Marval Promotes Two
jacK Lee, plant manager for
Lumbee-Marval, has been named
general manager for Marval's Lum
bee Division. Announcement of the
move came last week from Paul
Fox, vice-president in charge of
operations.
David Hodgin has been named to
succeed Lee as plant manager.
A longtime Raeford resident, Lee
took over as plant manager shortly
after Marval assumed the responsi
bility for sales and management of
the Lumbee Farms plant.
Lee began his career in 1959 with
Priebe and Sons Inc. of Raeford,
then a nationally known producer
of poultry products. In 1962, he
joined Raeford Turkey Farms,
Inc., where he later became
packaging supervisor. In 1964 he
joined the N.C. Department of
Agriculture as a licensed poultry
grader. One year later he returned
to Raeford Turkey Farms and was
shift superintendent at the time of
his move to Lumbee-Marval.
"Jack is probably one of the most
knowledgable members of our in
dustry, and certainly one of the
most capable. He did an excellent
job as plant manager, and we feel
he will be even more effective as
general manager." Fox said.
, Hodgin came to Lumbee Farms
from Raeford Turkey Farms Inc.,
where he supervised the further
processing segment.

Stonewall Report
By Mil. James O. Miller
As The News-Journal reaches the
realm of its many readers this week
the biggest and most exciting item
of news is that our young people are
out of school for summer vacation.
Most homes in our community are
affected by this grand occasion, if
not by their children then by the
grandchildren that will now be
more frequent visitors. Let us all
strive to spend as much time this
summer enjoying our youngsters as
we possibly can. All too soon they
are going to be grown and the
leaders of tomorrow.
A few well deserved words of
praise and gratitude is extended to
all the teachers in our Hoke County
School System for their dedication
and effort these past nine months.
Alsok a very special salute to Mrs.
Martha Ann Phillips and Mrs.
Margaret Farmer, teacher and
teacher's aide for the Trainable
Class at J.W. McLauchlin School.
Families not familiar with the
needs of a retarded child cannot
comprehend the outstanding
qualifications passed by these
wonderful teachers, that of love
and patience as well as knowledge.
Thus, from Cathi and myself
"Thank you for your assistance in
helping her develop her potentials
to the best of her ability, and to the
Board of Education for providing
this class and opportunity."

July Fuel
Charge
To Rise
Carolina Power & Light Co. has
asked the North Carolina Utilities
Commission to authorize an
"approved fuel charge" of .074 cents
per kilowatt - hour (kwh) on
customer's bills during J uly.
The "approved fuel charge"
reflects monthly variations in the
company's actual cost of fuel up or
down from the amount CP&L. is
permitted to collect for fuel in its
base rates.
The additional charge during July
would amount to 74 cents per
thousand kwh above base rates or 64
cents more than in June when each
retail customer will pay an
"approved fuel charge" of 10 cents
per thousand kwh. It takes into
account the previously approved
temporary surcharge of .089 cents
per kwh.
The increase is necessary,
according to CP&L. because the
Brunswick nuclear plant was out of
service during the entire period on
which the July charge is based,
requiring the use of more expensive
coal at other plants.
Mental Health
Meeting June 8
The Sandhills Mental Health
Center area board will meet Tuesday,
