In District Court Man Ordered To Make Support Payments John Thomas Warren of Scurlock Community pleaded guilty to'> a charge of inadequate support of two illegitimate children Friday. District Court Judge Joseph E. Dupree ordered Warren to pay Clerk of Superior Court S 17.50 a week and reserved the right to modify court payments at any time within five years. He was sentenced to 60 days, suspended for five years. Costs were remitted. Jerry Wayne Hyatt, 217 Reeves St., Raeford, was found not guilty of an unauthorized use of conveyance. The prosecuting witness was fined costs. James Arthur Campbell, Rt. 1, Box 533, Raeford, was found not guilty of the charge of injury to real property and the prosecuting witness was required to pay costs. Jason Lee Jones, Rt. 1, Shannon, paid court costs after being cited for failure to display a current approved inspection certificate. John Daniel Wilkes, 710 Green St., Raeford, was found not guilty of assault on a female and the prosecuting witness was ordered to pay the court costs. James Edward Leach, Rt. 2, Box 27, Raeford pleaded not guilty to the charge of operating a vehicle with a faulty muffler. He was sentenced to 30 days, suspended, and ordered to pay court costs. Nelson Bennett, B Co. 50th Signal, Fort Bragg, pleaded guilty of not being a licensed operator and was sentenced to 60 days, suspended tor 12 months and and was not to drive until properly licensed, and fined S25. Brenda Marrison, Rt. 3, Raelord, pleaded guilty to driving without a license and prayer for judgment was continued. She was fined S2S and costs. Linnie Farmer, 325 St. Pauls Dr., Raeford, was found guilty of passing a worthless check and ordered to pay $30 restitution to Heilig - Meyers Co. and court costs. He was also given a 30 day suspended sentence. Daniel 0. Baldwin, Rt. 1, Lumber Bridge, was ordered to pay S4.20 restitution cost of action on a worthless check charge brought by Short Stop No. 54, and was given a 30 day suspended sentence. Harrison McPhaul, Rt. 3, Raeford, was also given a 30 day suspended sentence and ordered to pay the sum of $13.08 restitution to Charles E. Fields and costs in a worthless check action. Calvin Monroe, Rt. 1, Raeford, pleaded guilty to the charges of passing a worthless check and failure to appear pursuant to the release order. He was sentenced to sixty days and ordered to pay $76.00 restitution to Provident Finance Co., Aberdeen, and costs. Rufus R. Sandoval, A Co., 2nd Btt, 7th Special Forces Group, Ft. Bragg, was found guilty of injury to property and sentenced to twelve months, suspended for three years. He was also fined SI00 plus cost of action and ordered not to go on the property of the complainant. Dale R. Hall iw ell. James Robert Williams. 22 Front St.. Red Springs entered a plea of guilty to driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor and was sentenced to six months, suspended, placed on probation for 12 months, and ordered to pay a fine of SI50 and court costs. It was further stipulated that he surrender his operators license for twelve months except as set out in the order granting limited driving privileges. Glenwood Hunt, Rt. 4, Raeford, was found guilty of a second offense of DU1 and driving without a license and was ordered to serve a term of 12 months in the Hoke County Jail. He was given six days credit for time pending trial. Richard L. Gilduist, 126th Trans. Co., Fort Bragg was found guilty of DU1, (second offense), and sentenced to six months, suspended for two years. He also was ordered to pay $300 court costs, and may not operate' a motor vehicle for two years. Ronald Glenn Clark, Rt. 4, Fayetteville, pleaded guilty to speeding 66 in a 59 MPH zone and ordered to pay $10 and court costs. William Preston Linkous, Rt. 12, Sanford, pleaded guilty to speeding 70 in a 55 MPH zone and was ordered to pay $15 and costs. James Hugh Phillips. Charlotte, pleaded guilty to exceeding a safe speed and was ordered to pay court costs. James Marlin Hendrix, Rt. S, Laurinburg, pleaded guilty to excessive speed and was ordered to pay costs. David High Hardee, Lumberton, pleaded guilty to speeding 67 in a 55 MPH zone and a prayer for judgment was continued for two years upon payment of costs. Warren Carson McNeill 111, Red Springs, pleaded guilty to excessive speed and was ordered to pay costs. Beuford Parker, Rt. 2, Laurel Hill, pleaded guilty of speeding 70 in a 55 MPH zone and was fined $25 and costs. Macy Richardson Scott, Whispering Pines, pleaded guilty to exceeding a safe speed and was ordered to pay costs. Marion Luther Jackson, Rt. 1, Lumber Bridge, was ordered to pay costs on a charge of excessive speed. The following cases were dismissed: Micky McNeill, Red Springs, larceny; Rufus R. Sandoval, Fort Bragg, trespassing; Larry Kenneth Berry, 706 W. Edinborough Ave., Raeford, assault on a female; Bill Sandy, Rt. 2, Raeford, injury to personal property; Aaron Murray, Red Springs, hit and run; David Junior Chavis, Rockingham, possession of a suspended drivers license; Glenwood Hunt. Rt. 4, Raeford, reasting a public officer; Glenwood Hunt, Rt. 4, Raeford, intoxicated in a public place; Ervin Fairley.Rt. 1, Raeford, assault; Ervin Fairley, Rt. 1, Raeford, littering. Harrison Dies In Raleigh Graveside services for former Raeford resident Henry David (Harry) Harrison Jr. were held in Raeford Cemetery Monday at 2 P.M. with Rev. John Ropp, Dr. Albert Edwards and Rev. Doug Kelly officiating. Harrison, 53, of Raleigh, died Saturday following a heart attack. A native of Martin County, Harrison practiced law in Raeford from 1950 to 1968 and was a well-known Democrat. A graduate of Atlantic Christian College, he received his law degree from Wake Forest University. Harrison was a former Raeford city attorney and a past director of the Raeford Savings and Loan Association. An active figure in the Democratic party, he served as a national committeeman for the Young Democrats Club. I At the time of his death ."Tie was chief counsel for the Employment Security Commission in Raleigh. He joined the ESC in 1968 as a staff attorney and became chief counsel in *1973. Surviving are his wife. Mrs. Gladys Baucom Harrison; a son, David J. Harrison of Shelby; a daughter. Miss Henry D. Harrison Martha J. Harrison of Charlotte: two sisters Mrs. Fonnie Mae Movley of Williamston; and Mrs. Viola Bohntcr of Baltimore, Md.; and a brother. Leroy Harrison of Williamston. Board Approves Nine For Next School Year Nine personnel were approved for employment for the 1976-77 school year by the board of education at their regular meeting Monday. Elected were Janet Maxwell Plummer, Mary Lee Spencer, Beth Jordan, Pamela Blair Simmons, Ricky Lee Stallings, Sandra M. Home, Jacqueline M. Gladney, Sally M. Johnson and Annie A. Swindell. Other business on the agenda included the awarding of the aduit contract for 1975 - 76 to AX. Lovin Co. of Red Springs for $2,500. Margaret McKenzie was appointed as the finance officer. The budget was amended by moving $40,000 from capital outlay to current expenses to provide hospitalization, social security, and retirement benefits, and to pay the salaries of two extra teachers. The board also assumed the responsibility of the Comprehensive Employment Training Act Youth, which will involve about 61 workers. It was agreed that two portable classroom buildings be sold to Red Springs school system and two be leased to the Sandhills Community College. The Veterans Administration pro vides benefits for certain widows, widowers, children and parents of veterans. Rt. 2, Raeford, speeding 70 in a 55 MPH zone, $10 and costs; Archibald Kenneth McArthur, Fayetteville, speeding 68 in a 55 MPH zone, $10 and costs; Earl Franklin Matoy, Lumberton, speeding 65 in a 55 MPH zone, $5 and costs. Library Panel Reorganizes The Sandhills Library Associa tion, open to all librarians in Anson, Montgomery, Moore and Richmond Counties, has been expanded to include Hoke County and re-activated as a group. The decision was made by members present at a called meeting held in the Moore County Library in Carthage on June 1. Those present were Mr. William Bridgman, Mrs. Louise B. Lisk, Mrs. Jean Llewellyn, Mrs. Pauline Myrick, Mrs. Vida Paschal, Mrs. Sue Phillips,Jtrlrs. Dorothy Rogers, Mrs. Pam' Williams and Mrs. Annie F. Wilson. The following officers were elected for the 1976-77 year; President, Mrs. Jean Llewellyn; Vice-President. Mrs. Annie F. Wilson; Secretary, Mrs. Dorothy Rogers; Treasurer, Mrs. Vida Paschal. Service Personnel SAN ANTONIO, Tex. - An official at Lackland AFB, Tex. has announced the graduation of Air man First Class William R. Guin Jr. from the U.S. Air Force's security police specialist course conducted by the Air Training Command. Airman Guin, whose parents are Mr. and Mrs. William R. Guin of Rt. 2, Raeford, is now trained in security and law enforement and will serve at Upper Heyford RAF station, England. Completion of the course enables the airman to receive academic credits through the Community College of the Air Force. The airman is a 1974 graduate of Hoke High School.
