Mr. and Mrs. Charles Edward Quick
Miss English Is Bride
Of Charles E. Quick
Miss Donna Karen English and
Charles Edward Quick were mar
ried at 6:00 p.m., June 4, at the
Community Methodist Church.
The Rev. Bissett officiated the
double ring ceremony.
The bride, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Robert C. English of Five
Points Community, is a junior at
Hoke County High School. The
bridegroom, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Carl H. Quick, is a 1976 graduate
of Hoke County High School and is
employed by Tex-Elastic.
A program of nuptial music was
provided by Mrs. Barbara Jackson
who sang "More" and accom
panied herself at the piano. The
traditional wedding marches were
used.
The altar held a large arrange
ment of snapdragons, blue, white
and pink daisies and yellow pom
pons and carnations.
Given in marriage by her father,
the bride wore a formal gown of
bridal satin with lace appliques
made with empire waistline, stand
up collar, long sleeves, and ruffle at
the hemline. Her double-tier, fin
gertip veil of illusion was attached
to a lace crown. She carried a
bouquet of blue, pink and white
daisies and yellow pompons with
white streamers.
Matron of honor was the bride's
sister, Mrs. Joyce Harper of San
ford. She wore a dress of floral
design blue organza fashioned with
square neckline, pinafore style,
with contrasting ruffle extending to
the back and forming a large bow.
She carried a carnation with white
bow and streamers.
Miss Brenda English, sister of
the bride, was flower girl. She wore
a pink dress made like the matron
of honor's and carried a white
wicker basket filled with mixed
daisy petals.
Williams-Taylor
Mrs. Lilmar Sue Taylor of
Alexandria, Va., and Richard
Evan Williams of Arlington, Va.,
were married June 5, at 5:30 in
Alexandria Free Methodist Church
with only their children and several
close friends present. The Rev.
Charles E. Beahm officiated.
Miss Trent Gatlin Taylor was her
mother's maid of honor and Chris
topher Andrew Williams served as
his father's best man.
Mrs. Taylor-Williams is em
ployed by Alexandria City Schools
and Mr. Williams is a chemist with
the Environmental Protection
Agency in Washington, D.C.
The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Marion Hatcher Gatlin of
Raeford, and the groom is the son
of Mrs. George Evan Williams of
Watertown, N.Y., and the late Mr.
Williams.
Following the ceremony the bri
dal couple entertained with a
dinner party at the Mount Vernon
Inn, Mount Vernon, Va.
The couple will be at home at
1177 North Van Dorn Street,
Alexandria. Va.
Christian Women's
Club To Meet
The Christian Women's Club
will meet June 16 at 11:30 A.M., at
the Country Club of North
Carolina.
Grace's Gift Shop of Southern
Pines will highlight "What Brides
Select in 1976 for the special
feature.
Mrs. Julian Long will be the
guest soloist.
The featured speaker for this
month will be Dr. James Hyde of
the Fayetteville Family Life Center.
The Christian Women's Club is a

of the leading cities and areas

Mr. and Mrs. John Gaddy spent
the weekend with relatives in
Brevard.
Randy Quick served as best man
for his brother. Ushers were Johnny
and Glenn Miller.
The bride's mother chose a two
piece dress of blue and white
polyester complimented with a
corsage of mixed daisies. The
bridegroom's mother wore a beige,
pink and blue polyester dress and
had a corsage of mixed daisies.
Reception
Immediately following the cere
mony the bride's parents enter
tained with a reception at their
home.
Spring colors of pink, white, blue
and yellow were used in a bridal
motif on the table. The four-tiered
wedding cake, decorated with pink,
blue and yellow roses and blue
forget-me-nots, was topped with a
miniature bride and groom. The
cake was made and served by Mrs.
Jack Baker. Mrs. Arthur Baker
poured punch.
After a short wedding trip the
couple will live here on N. Main
Street.
Bridal Shower
Miss English was honored with a
miscellaneous bridal shower on
May 29, given by Mrs. Arthur
Baker and Mrs. Jack Baker, aunts
of the bride, at the home of Mrs.
Arthur Baker.
Upon her arrival Miss English
was presented with a corsage of
daisies.
Luncheon Held
For Club Officers
Mrs. John Balfour entertained
the District Nine Executive Com
mittee of the North Carolina Fed
eration of Women's Clubs with a
luncheon on Friday at her home.
Mrs. Balfour is the new district
president.
Red, white and blue packages
decorated the luncheon tables.
Present were the following offi
cers: Mrs. J.W. Cameron III of
Sanford, 1st vice president; Mrs.
R. Edger Fitchett of Southern
Pines, recording secretary; Mrs.
Phil Nordon of Raeford, corre
sponding secretary; Mrs. Julian

Mesdames Upchurch,
Wright Honored
Mrs. Clyde Upchurch Jr. and
Mrs. Belton Wright were honored
at a reception Monday afternoon
held in the Assembly Room of the
County Office Building. The party
was in celebration of their retire
ment from 20 and 31 years,
respectively, of teaching at Hoke
County High School.
Hosts for the occasion were the
Students in Action for Education at
Hoke High, The Math Depart
ment, headed by Mrs. J.L.
Semones, and the Business Depart
ment, headed by Mrs. J.K. McNeill
Jr.
Guests included personnel from
the schools, Board of Education
employees, and members of the
immediate families of the honorees.
The refreshment table was
covered with an Army & Navy linen
tablecioth and centered with an
arrangement of daisies, carnations
and chrysanthemums in pastel
shades of pink, blue, yellow and
white. Miss Charlotta King, presi
dent of SAE, poured punch from a
silver bowl, wnich was served with
cheese straws, lady fingers, nuts
and mints.
Mrs. Upchurch and Mrs. Wright
were presented corsages and en
graved silver trivets from Hoke
County High School and other gifts
from the hosts.
Sunday Ceremony Unites
Dupree-Monroe Couple
Mrs. Eddie Tyrone Dupree
Miss Denise Monroe, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. John Cannon of
Jamaica, N.Y., and Eddie Tyrone
Dupree, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Clarence Dupree of Brooklyn,
N.Y., were married Sunday, June
6, at 5:00 p.m., in Silver Grove
Baptist Church. The Rev. W.K.
Mitchell officiated for the double
ring ceremony.
White candles in a 15 branch
arch, flanked by spiral candelabra,
formed a background for a sun
burst of white gladioli and pink
carnations. Two nine-branched
candelabra with matching flowers
and greenery were also used at the
altar. On each side of the church
were two gold crosses with burning
tapers.
Wedding music was presented by
Dr. Willie McNeill, organist, and
Miss Gloria McLaughlin, soloist,
who sang, "O Perfect Love" and
"The Voice That Breathed O'er
Eden".
Flossie Dupree was maid of
honor. Bridesmaids were Barbara
Ross, Lillian Valdez, Joyce Anne
Monroe, Mary Lee Blue, Ruby Lee
Hollingsworth, Shirley Mae Jones,
Lois Graham and Rose Mary
Monroe. Their dresses of golden
touch polyester knit in pastel colors
were designed with scoop neckline
on the empire bodice, bell sleeves
and flared skirt. They wore wide
brim hats with streamers to match
their dresses and carried long stem
white mums with ribbons the color
of their costumes. Each attendant
wore a white gold "nothing"
necklace, a gift from the bride.
The flower girl, Christy McCall,
wore a dress of sheer white with
pastel flocking, made with puff
sleeves and a scalloped overskirt
with pink bows at each scallop.
All of the attendants' dresses
were designed and made by Mrs.
Vera Barnes.
Given in marriage by her father,
the bride wore an Alfred Angelo
gown of imported English net and
Alencon lace, styled with scooped
petal neckline, bishop sleeves and
full skirt sweeping to an attached
chapel train. French Chantilly lace
accented the hemline and was
appliqued onto the mantilla. She
carried a cascade bouquet of pink
roses, phalaenopsis orchids and
stephanotis with white bridal
streamers.
Dennis Monroe was best man.
Groomsmen were Ronald Monroe,
DaiTell Dupree, Calvin Dupree,
Richard Batcher, Larry Rogers,
Leon Hough, James Murphy and
George Hollingsworth.
Dexter McCall was ring bearer.
The mother of the bride was
attired in a peach chiffon dress and
the bridegroom's mother chose a
mint green chiffon dress. Both
mothers had corsages of white
feathered carnations.
After a wedding trip to Jamaica
the newlyweds will be at home at
Greenwood Trailer Park.
The bride is employed at Bur
lington Industries here and the
bridegroom works at Kelly Spring
field in Fayetteville. They are both
Graduates of Hoke County High
chool and Mr. Dupree is a junior
at Fayetteville State University,
majoring in business administra
tion.
Reception
Following the ceremony Mrs.
Bernice McCall, aunt of the bride
groom, was hostess for a reception
at the Hoke Civic Center.
Mrs. Annie McKinnon served
cake and Mrs. Beverly McRae
poured punch. Others assisting
were Deborah McLaughlin, Jim
Davis, Mrs. Shirley McCall, Mrs.
Candy Walker and Mrs. Gene
McPhatter.
Mrs. Katherine McPhatter pre
sided at the guest register.
Mrs. Ralph Barhart is spending
this week at Holden Beach, with
her sister, Mrs. Bob Southwell of
Kings Mountain. Mrs. Edmund
Murray of Greensboro, former
Raeford resident, will join them for
a few days.
Miss Margaret Gainey has been
vacationing this week at Garden
City Beach, S.C.
