Rock fish News by Mrs. AA. Mclnnis Bible School began at Taber nacle Church Monday and will continue for two weeks. The enrollment Monday was 95. Bible School at Pittman Grove Church began last Monday evening at 6 o'clock and is continuing through this week with very good attendance. They will have their closing exercises next Sunday a.m. during the S.S. hour. Parker Church will have Bible School for one week starting last Monday. Mrs. George Monroe and Mrs. Davis Parker attended the Womens Conference at Montreat the past weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Homer Terry were supper guests of Mrs. Effie Forbis and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schock at the home of Mrs. Forbis and Mr. and Mrs. Schock prepared the supper with Chinese food and Mrs. Terry says it was delicious. Larry Hayes' father Larry Hayes of Bladenboro came for him and kept him over the weekend and brought him home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. M.S. Gibson and children Joy and Ricky spent the past weekend at Carolina Beach. Pam Sumner of Lumber Bridge stayed with her grandmother Mrs. Ethel D. Gibson while they were gone. Mrs. Virginia Bounds of Red Springs visited her sister Mrs. Gibson, Sunday and also Mr. and Mrs. Steve Freeman and daughter Stephanie were her guests Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Monroe spent the weekend at Carolina Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Smith Mclnnis and Mrs. Jim Maxwell visited Mr. and Mrs. David Lancaster and children Brian and Jennifer of Raleigh Sunday afternoon. Miss Sarah Patterson attended the Patterson reunion at the Civic Center in Raeford Sunday. T.C. Jones and his son Roy Jones attended the Jones family reunion at Pilot Mountain Sunday. Mrs. Wheeler Clyce who had surgery in Alabama some time ago arrived home about three weeks ago, she is not entirely well yet but it is good that she is at home. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Long's son Ronnie recently graduated from Kiddie Castle Kindergarten in Fayetteville. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Long attended the graduation exercises on Sunday and enjoyed the program very much. Mrs. Alma Parker of Laurinburg spent a few days last week with her sister Mrs. George Dees, and Saturday and Saturday night with Mrs. Louise Watson and Miss Nellie McFadyen and she planned to spend Monday night with Mrs. Joe Lovette and go home from there on Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. June Rogers visited Winford Brock at High smith - Rainey Memorial Hospital and Earl Brock at Cape Fear Valley Hospital last Sunday. They were both doing fairly well. Mr. and Mrs. John Robins and Mrs. W.H. Schell were guests of Mrs. Ethel D. Gibson Sunday p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Sessoms of Glenn Burnie, Md. came last Friday to really start housekeeping down on Rockfish Creek at Davis Bridge. He had been here for some time getting ready for her to come. We welcome them to this com munity and they are invited to attend the church of their choice regularly and they will be welcome at any of the other churches. Mrs. T.J. Russell of Rocky Mount spent last weekend with her sister, Mrs. Mary Mclnnis and son Thomas. They visited, Mrs. C.B. Oliver, whose grandson was killed, by hanging, while playing with a rope and chain last Friday. He was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. John Oliver of Fairmont. Mrs. Russells son - in - law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. Alton Barnes of Wilson came for her Sunday. John David Mclnnis of Wagram was a visitor to Rockfish Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. K.P. Ritter's grandchildren from Burlington, Tom and Catharine Garrison spent a week with them and Mark is with them this week. He came back with them when they took the other children home and visited their parents Mr. and Mrs. John Garri son of Burlington. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Clark and children Debbie and Lisa spent the weekend at Holden Beach. They were joined there by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Renegar. Mrs. Tracy Garner and grand daughter Robin Jordan of Carthage visited her mother Mrs. R.H. Gibson Saturday. Her Sunday guests were Mrs. Harvey Thornton and children Nancy, Robert and Kris of Fayetteville. Mr. and Mrs. Danny Gibson of Raeford were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. R.H. Gibson Sunday. Carol Fowler is at home now after graduating at W.W.N.C., Cullowhee with a B.S. degree in Nursing. BIRTHDAY Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sojka celebrated their baby daughter Kelli's second birthday last Sun day. Her grandfather Alfred Berry was present and her paternal grandparents and great grand parents of Arizona were also present. Kelli received many nice gifts and all their friends in this area wish for her many, many more happy birthdays with her parents and all the grandparents. Edwin Mclnnis of Fayetteville visited his brother Thomas Mclnnis and his mother Sunday p.m. Mrs. A.A. Ray and some of her neighbors have taken advantage of the dry warm weather by going fishing and they have caught some very nice fish. Mr. and Mrs. John Baker of Cameron came Sunday and stayed until Monday with Mrs. Floyd Monroe while they were there Mrs. Mary Shewbridge and Mrs. Joe Lovette of Wayside visited them. Mrs. Mary Priest and Mrs. Maggie Quick visited the Adcox Home one day this week. COMMENT When it is hot people want it cool. And that doesn't mean they are a fool. TIUM COUNTY YARD?The home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson McBryde was chosen best looking yard in the county by the extension homemakers. The weekly judging is part of the beautification campaign. Lumber Bridge News By Lib Sumner Attendance at the Baptist Church was good Sunday. The eleven o'clock message was de livered by the pastor, Stacy A. Wells on "The Nature and Func , tion of the Church" (Its beginning) Rev. and Mrs. Stacy A. Wells are attending the Southern Baptist Convention meeting in Norfolk, Virginia, Monday through Thurs * day of this week. Vacation Bible School opened Sunday afternoon at 6 p.m. This was called Preparation Day with a coverd dish supper in the Stamps Fellowship Hall, Presbyterian Church. This gave the teachers and children an opportunity to meet everyone, go to the classes and be introduced to the teachers, look over the materials, etc. The Director, Mrs. G.S. Forbes and Secretary, Mrs. Henry Bullard. The churches joining together for Bible School are Lumber Bridge Presbyterian Church, Lumber Bridge Baptist and Rex Pres byterian Churches June 14 ? 19. Theme: "God Made Me." The Women of the Presbyterian Church, Circle I met Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Henry Bullard. Mrs. Edwin Clifton Jr.. was in charge of the meeting. There was a good number present. Mrs. Bullard served refreshments at the close of the meeting. Circle II met in the home of Mrs. N.H.G. Balfour Wednesday night. Mrs. John Balfour was in charge of the program. There were eight members present. At the close of the meeting Mrs. Balfour served refreshments. Mrs. J.C. Chason has returned home from Siler City and is getting along much better. Mrs. Elizabeth Tolar of Lum berton spent Sunday and Monday with her sister. Miss Mildred Williford. Miss Pamela Sumner spent Friday and Saturday nights with her grandmother, Mrs. Ethel Gibson. Mrs. Margaret Whipple, Robert and Lea Whipple of Fayetteville and Miss Pamela Sumner spent Sunday at Carolina Beach. Mr. and Mrs. M.S. Gibson, Ricky and Joy spent the weekend at Carolina Beach. Mr. and Mrs. J.F. McMillan spent Sunday in Raleigh visiting Mr. and Mrs. Clarence H. Moore and Miss Gwendolyn Moore. Dr. and Mrs. Major Goodman and sons, Sean and Scot of Raleigh spent from Friday until Sunday with her mother, Mrs. N.H.G. Balfour. DEDICATION SUNDAY?The Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church, completed June 4. will observe dedication services this Sunday at 3:30 P.M. Dr. Joy L. Johnson, president of the General Baptist Convention of North Carolina and 21st District Representative, will be the featured speaker. Rev. J. W. Gorham is pastor. The church is seven miles south of Raeford on U.S. 401. The public is invited. Libraries Invite Kids The Hoke County library is ? sponsoring a children's programs in the following school libraries next week: Unchurch, 9:30 A.M. June 22; Raetord Elementary, 11 A.M. June 22; Scurlock, 9:30 A.M. June 23; McLauchlin Elementary, 11 A.M. June 23; South Hoke, 9:30 A.M. June 24; and West Hoke, 11 A.M. June 24. Children between the ages of six and twelve are invited. The Book mobile will be at the schools on Tuesday and Thursday. Church Sing There will be a special singing Saturday night at the Church of God on Green St. featuring the Lanier Family of Sanford.
