Mrs. Carlton Niven, Social Reporter. 875-3785 McLaughlin - Stubbs Wedding At Shady Grove Saturday Miss Dorothy Stubbs. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Teams Stubbs and William Henry McLaughlin, son of Mrs. Sim McLaughlin and the late Mr. McLaughlin, were married at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, July 3 at Shady Grove Baptist Church. Rev. J.W. Gorham and Rev. W.J. Hall officiated. A program of wedding music was presented by Mrs. Alice Green who sang "The Lord's Prayer", "Whither Thou Goest" and "With This Ring 1 Thee Wed". The altar was centered with a sunburst of white gladioli, mums and yellow carnations, and flanked by candelabra with burning white tapers. The matron of honor was Mrs. Helen Matkins, cousin of the bride of Greensboro. She wore a nile green dotted swiss gown with open V ? neck and ruffled edge extending to an open V - back. The A - line skirt had a flounced edge and was trimmed with green satin ribbon. She carried a clutch bouquet of yellow carnations and dotted swiss streamers. Bridesmaids were Miss Shirley Stubbs, Mrs. Thelma Car penter, Miss Edna Stubbs, Miss Theresa Stubbs and Miss Beverly Stubbs, all of Raeford, and Mrs. Virginia McNeill of Fayetteville, all sisters of the bride. Each carried a matching clutch bouquet of yellow carnations and wore maize dotted swiss gown designed like that of the matron of honor. Miss Tara D. Wilson, niece of the bride was flower girl. She was dressed similar to the other attendants and carried a white wicker basket with yellow rose petals. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a white polyester organza gown with cotton venise lace, empire silhouette, lace ap pliqued bodice with a scoop neckline and matching choker. The full bishop sleeves were appliqued with lace and her A - line skirt was attached by a chapel length train. She carried a flowing cascade of yellow roses and miniature car nations with white bridal stream ers. The bride's mother wore a baby blue polyester knit gown. The bridegroom's mother was attired in a mint green chiffon gown. Both mothers had orchid corsages. Johnnie McLaughlin served as best man. Ushers were Russell Dailey of Memphis, Tenn., Jerold Lawson and Walter Russell Owens of Washington. D.C., John D. McRae of Raeford, Royal Curry and Julius McLean of Brooklyn, N.Y. Ring bearer was Dwaine Stubbs. Following the ceremony, guests were entertained with a reception in the church fellowship hall catered by Caterers Inc. of Fayetteville. The cake was four tiered, laced with yellow string work atop of flowing fountain. Cake was served by Mrs. Marie Owens. Assisting with serving was Mrs. Loretta Barber. The bride's parents entertained with a dinner following the re hearsal Friday evening in the church fellowship hall. The bride has been employed as librarian by Maxton City Schools and the bridegroom is employed by Pickfort Knitting, Inc. of Brook lyn, N.Y. The couple will make their home in Brooklyn. ?fr. and Mrs. Richard Norris spenl cveral days last week in Hartsville i.C. with relatives. Guests other than members were Mrs. Bill McPhaul and Mrs. Joe Hoffman. Refreshments of punch, sandwiches, decorated cakes, nuts and candy were served from the dining table, centered with an arrangment of white and yellow flowers, flanked by lighted tapers in hurricane globes. At the conclusion of the game high score prize went to Mrs. Bobby Gibson and second high to Mrs. McPhaul. Mr & Mrs Morrison Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Morrison were hosts to the couples club on Saturday evening of last week. Guest other than members was Miss Alma Ferguson. A fruit drink with candy and knick-knacks was served during the evening. Mrs. John Campbell was high scorer. She and Miss Ferguson were both remembered with gifts. Births ??A. Mr. and Mrs. Donald G. King of Henderson announce the birth of a son. Joel David on June 21. Mr. and Mrs. King are former Raeford residents. Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Walker and family of Sanford spent the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Maxwell. ; a** xmxm*. x Mrs. Jordan Mrs. Jerry Jordan was hostess to the members of her bridge club on Tuesday evening of last week. Refreshments were served from the dining table during the evening. High score prize was awarded to Mrs. Ricky Englidi, second high to Mrs. Jack Scarborough and low to Mrs. Steve Phillips. Members of the club remembered Mrs. Scarborough, who will be moving to Oxford in the future, with a gift. Shower Honors Mrs. Dixon Mrs. Robbie Bullock, Rosa Cole, Jane Parks and Jean Odom were hostesses for a bridal shower for Mrs. Randy Dixon, formerly Sheila Lee, on Tuesday evening, June 28 at the home of Mrs. Robbie Bullock. A white and yellow color note was used in decorations. The table, covered with white lace and centered with yellow and white carnations and daisies held punch, cake squares, nuts and mints for guests. Mrs. Dixon was presented a corsage of white carnations and an electric percolator by the hostesses. The bride is the daughter of Mrs Vera Amette of McColl, S.C. anc the bridegroom is the son of Mrs G.M. Lovette of Rt. I, Shannot and the late Mr. Lovette. The couple will make their home or Route 3. Raeford. Scarboroughs Honored Mr. and Mrs. Jack Scarborough, who will be moving in the future to Oxford, where Mr. Scarborough will be connected with Burlington Industries, were honored on Saturday evening when Mr. and Mrs. Larry Calloway entertained at their home on the Aberdeen Highway. Friends of the couple enjoyed an informal get-together with lots of conversation and refreshments, served from the dining table, which had been made pretty for the occasion.
