From The Home Agent's Desk Sheer fabrics are beautiful for summer dresses and blouses, but they can present special problems. One consideration is how the seam of a set - in sleeve can be finished to give a neat appearance. Depending upon the fabric, there are two acceptable ways of finishing a set - in sleeve seam. 1. In a fabric that does not ravel excessively (most voiles, bastistes. for example) the armhole seam can be finished using a double - stitched seam. For a double stitched seam construct a plain 5/8" seam. Then stitch again 1/8" away in the seam allowance. Trim seam allowance to 1/8" of second stitching row. This is an acceptable finish for casual styles. For ravelly sheers (many chiffdns. organzas. for example) use a self ? bound seam. To construct, make a plain seam. Trim sleeve cap seam allowance to 1/8" or 1/4". Turn the edge of the other seam allowance under, and slipstitch over the seam, catching at the stitch line. This encases the trimmed seam allowance. School Administrators To Attend Conference Hoke County School Supt. G. Raz Autry and Asst. Supt. Ernest Sutton and Asst. Supt. J.D.
