Ladies' League Hoke Jaycees 18-0 By Pat Scolt Monday's make-up game added another victory to the Hoke Jaycees' string. The Jaycees, after a slow offensive start, defeated Hollings worth and Top Sound Music 7-0 after ftVe and one-half innings of play. B. Leslie, G. Blue and L. Kershaw were 1-2 at bat for HWT & TSM for the team's three hits of the game. B. Campbell was 2-2 for the Jaycees with a solo homer. J. Walker and G. Murchison were 2-3 to aid in the Jaycees' win. Rosa's Grill and McMillan's Groc. defeated Rose's Aviation 15-9 after the fifth inning due to the hour time limit. M. Huffman led Rose's Aviation., hitting 2-4. L. Bryant was 2-2 for Rosa's Grill and McMillan's Groc. with three runs while J. Hasty was 3-4 to aid her team to victory. Tuesday, the Hoke Jaycees de feated Rosa's Grill and McMillan's Groc. 46-3. S. Hasty was 3-3 for Rosa's Grill and McMillan's Groc. with teammate S. Riggins hitting a three run homer for their only scores. R. Oxendine was 4-5 for the Jaycees with a 5-7- perform ance by J. Walker and K. Little. B. Campbell hit a grand slam homer in the fifth to add to the multitude of runs for the Hoke Jaycees. Hollingsworth and Top Sound Music defeated Rose's Aviation 24-0 after three innings of play with the hour time limit. F. Currie and S. Baker were 1-1 for Rose's Avt. W. Southerland was 3-3 followed "by L. Kershaw's 2-2 performance for the HWT & TSM team. J. Bease and B. Leslie were 3-4 to aid in the HWT & TSM victory. Thursday, Hoke Jaycees shut-out Rose's Aviation 26-0 after four and one-half innings of play. Leading the Jaycee attack was S. Campbell and K. Jordan's 3-4 efforts, fol lowed by G. Murchison's 3-5 with a solo homer. Hollingsworth and Top Sound Music had no trouble with Rosa's Grill and McMillan's Groc. with a 22-7 decision after four and one half innings of play. S. Riggins was 3-3 for Rosa's Grill and McMillan's Groc. followed by N. Kershaw's 2-3 efforts. W. Southcrland had a fine 3-3 performance for HWT & TSM with a grand-slam homer. A. Hollingsworth was 2-2 at bat to aid the HWT <Xc TSM attack 'to end regular season. Action in the tournament begins with HWT & TSM meeting Hoke Jaycees at 7 P.M. July 26. Cystic Fibrosis Telethon Sunday Mrs. Thomas F. McBryde. local chairman of the Cystic Fibrosis campaign, announced that all ar rangements have been finalized for the "Something Special" telethon, which will be broadcast by WRET TV. Channel 3b. in Charlotte. The telethon, which will feature both national and local celebrities, will be telecast Sunday. July 25 from II A.M. tof P.M. Mrs. McBr.de said individuals wishing to call in pledges could call 875-2421. 875-5166. or 875-5167. All proceeds from the telethon will benefit the CF Foundation and will aid in research efforts to cure and control all forms of children's chronic lung-damaging diseases. Laura Davis and Donna Davis are local volunteer operators. In District Court Judge Hears Numerous Charges On Local Man Judge Derb S. Carter heard a multitude of charges against Loren zo Murchison. Rt. 1, Box 835. Raeford, Friday in District Court. Murchison pleaded guilty to misdemeanor larceny, speeding 87 in a 55 MPH zone, and failure to stop for a siren. He was sentenced to 24 months in jail, suspended for five years, on the larceny charge; six month suspended, to begin at the expiration of the previous sentence, in the siren violation; and 60 days suspended, to follow previous sentences, in the charge of speeding. He was fined $600 and costs with $100 to be paid immedi ately and payments of $35 to be made monthly. He also was ordered to surrender his driver's license and not operate a motor vehicle in the state until properly licensed. Other charges against Murchi son. failure to drive upon the right half of the road, resisting arrest, and attempting to flee arrest, were given voluntary dismissals. Alaine Scott Tyler, Rt. 3, Box 237, Raeford, pleaded guilty to charges of larceny and was sen tenced to six months, suspended for two years and fined $10 and costs of court. He was cautioned not to violate any laws of the state for two years. Ray Hughes, Fayetteville, pleaded guilty to a worthless check charge and paid $97.56 restitution to Alex A. Gray and costs of court. Robert L. Doby, Main St. exten sion. Raeford. pleaded guilty to passing a worthless check in the amount of $% to Jessie Stone. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail, suspended for one year, and or dered to pay restitution and costs of court. Abraham McGee, 527 East Sixth St.. Raeford. pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill but inflicting injury only. Judge Carter found probable cause and bound the defendant over to Superior Court for action by the grand jury. Montgomery Barnes. Rt. 1, Box 263 A. Raeford. was found not guilty on a charge of simple assault. Robert Richardson. Laurel Hill, pleaded not guilty to a charge of simple assault brought against him by James McRae Shawn. He. was found guilty- and required to pay costs of court. Larry McCain. 507 Grant Ave., Raeford, pleaded guilty to charges of assaulting his wife, Sarah Mc Cain. He was sentenced to six months, suspended for two years, and ordered to pay costs of the action. He was cautioned not to further assault his wife. Coleman Purcell, Rt. 1, Raeford, pleaded guilty to injury to personal property belonging to Donald Locklear and was sentenced to six months in the Hoke County Jail. Bobby Ray Jones, Shannon, was sentenced to six months in jail, suspended for four years, after he pleaded guilty to a charge of non support of child brought by Mary Lois Jones. Red Springs. He was ordered to pay the sum of $12 per week for the support of James Raymond Jones and costs of court. Rufus Lee Ward. McCain, pleaded and was found guilty of escape from the North Carolina Prison Department and was sen tenced to a six month sentence to run concurrently with the sentence he is no serving. Richard Ellis, Rt. 1, Raeford, pleaded not guilty to charges of wantonly setting tire to the house occupied by him. Probable cuase was found and the defendant was bound over to the Superior Court for action by the grand jury. Lawrence Brown. Ft. Bragg, was sentenced to six months in jail, suspended for two years, fined $200 and costs, and ordered not to drive until properly licensed after he pleaded guilty to driving with his license revoked. Arron Murray. Red Springs, pleaded guilty to charges of driving under the influence of intoxicating liquors and misdemeanor hit and run. He was sentenced to two years in jail, suspended for three years and fined $400 and costs of court He may not operate a motor vehicle in the state until properly licensed to do so. Theressa Bronson Gillespie. Rt. I. Box 543. Raeford. pleaded guilty to an unsafe movement charge and was ordered to pay costs of court. Bruce Tingen Stephens. Fayette ville. pleaded guilty to an inspec tion violation and was ordered to pay costs of court. James Luther Parker. Red Springs, paid court costs after pleading guilty to illegal passing. Frank Bethea Gillis. Fayetteville. pleaded not guilty to a charge of not wearing a safety helmet on a motorcycle. He was found guilty and ordered to pay court costs. The defendant gave notice of appeal. Billy Ralph Martin Jr., Rt. 1. Box 598. Raeford, pleaded guilty to speeding 83 in a 55 MPH zone and was fined $50 and costs of court. Barrie Little Council. Fayette ville. pleaded guilty to speeding 65 in a 55 MPH zone and was given a prayer for judgment continued upon payment of costs. Deborah Kay Thompson, 512 Green St., Raeford. pleaded guilty to speeding 69 in a 55 MPH zone and was granted a prayer for judgment continued upon payment of court costs. Gerald Curt Anderson Jr.. Fay etteville, pleaded guilty to speeding 76 in a 55 MPH zone and was fined S15 and costs. Benny Ray Nash. 1007 Fulton St.. Raeford, was granted a prayer for judgment continuing and or dered to pay costs after he pleaded guilty to speeding 65 in a 55 MPH zone. William Kellam Oden Jr., Greensboro, pleaded guilty to ex ceeding a safe speed and was ordered to pay court costs. Franklin Delano Jones, Greens boro, pleaded guilty to exceeding a safe speed and was ordered to pay court costs. David Bryant Lucas, Kings Mountain, was fined $10 and costs after he pleaded guilty to speeding 66 in a 55 MPH zone. Edward James Gehrke. Fayette ville, pleaded guilty to exceeding a safe speed and was ordered to pay costs. Southern Nat'l. Reports Income Southern National Corporation, the one-bank holding company for Southern National Bank of N.C., has reported net operating income for the first six months of 1976 of $1,240,182 orS1.08per share. This compares to SI,281,862 or $1.10 per share at the same period in 1975. The net earnings were $1.09 per share compared to $1.05 per share, which was the result of increased yields in the bond market. The Board of Directors declared a cash dividend of $.20 per share payable on August 1, 1976. Southern Lawn Gets Nat'l. Award Southern Lawn and Fence Co. of Raeford. authorized installation service for Sears Roebuck & Co., has received an award from the Sears national office for outstand ing service. Out of over 15,000 authorized installers nationwide, less than 100 received this year's service award. Richard Shepherd accepted the award for Southern Lawn and Fence Co. Jerry Lewis Baldwin. 514 E. Sixth Ave.. Raeford. was fined $10 and court costs after he pleaded guilty to speeding bO in a 45 MPH zone. Simon Peter Conoly. Red Springs, pleaded guilty to speeding 92 in a 55 M PH zone and to passing in an intersection. He was fined $70 and court costs. E-4 Robert Dicks. Ft. Bragg, was fined $5 and costs when he pleaded guilty to speeding b7 in a S5 MPH zone. Jencie Locklear Alipaz. Laurin burg. pleaded guilty to speeding 75 in a 55 MPH zone and was fined 510 and court costs. Marshall Thomas Wilson. Rt. 1. Box 590. Raeford. pleaded not guilty to speeding 83 in a 55 MPH zone and driving under the influ ence of alcohol. He was found guilty and sentenced to bO days in jail, suspended for one year.
