Storm Disrupts Power
A sudden thunderstorm which
dumped an inch of rain on Raeford
Friday afternoon, ending a two
week drought, knocked out electri
cal power to some sections of the
city briefly.
Lightning struck an insulator at
the corner of Dickson St. and
Central Ave. about 1:30, knocking
out electricity to Carolina Power
and Light customers in a portion of
the downtown area and in residen
tial neighborhoods on the west side
of the city.
Lightning also blew out a
transformer at the post office on
W. Elwood Ave., causing a power
outage which was repaired at about
5 P.M., according to Ed Chappell
of CP & L.
Most of the areas affected by the
interruption had power restored
within 30-45 minutes.

TO THE CITIZENS OF HOKE COUNTY
I solicit your support to help re-elect Craig Phillips
as State Superintendent. Dr. Phillips is a strong be
liever in local control of schools. His record speaks
for itself. He has visited Hoke County three times in
the last year. Our children have received their fair
share of state support because of his efforts. He is
the best qualified man for the job. Please help me
show him our appreciation by giving him a strong vote
of confidence.
