Coach. ^ NRFD Little League Champs By Ann Howell The Hoke County Little League Championships were held Monday through Friday last week at Armory Park. In the first game of the tournament the Hoke Rescue Squad beat American Legion 17 10. The Rescue Squad picked up 17 hits and Lide smashed- a homer in the 5th inning for American Legion. There were 10 hits and the 2nd inning was their best, gather ing seven runs. Raeford Aviation slid by the Sheriffs Department 7-6 in the 2nd game. Raeford Aviation was led at bat by Sterling and Morrison, both 2-3. The Sheriff's Department collected six hits and M. Cook was their leading batter, going 2-4. In the tournament's third game. NRFD defeated the KiwanLs 11-b. NRFD picked up 11 hits and five of their runs in their best inning, the 4th. The Kiwanis managed only three hits for a rough opening game. The final game on Monday night went to Hoke Drug. 14-1.1 over the Lions. Hoke Drug collected nine hits and R. Maynord was their top tjetter. The Lions pulled in eight hits and R. Wilcox was the leading batter. In Tuesday night's action, the Rfcscue Squad was defeated by Raeford Aviation 14-2. Raeford Aviation had a good start picking up five runs in the first inning, and then gathering seven runs in the 5th inning. For the Rescue Squad it was a cold night as they accumu lated only two hits as well as two runs. Also on Tuesday night NRFD defeated Hoke Drug 15-3. No statistics are available lor this pairing. The first round of competition in the loser's bracket went to the Sheriff's Department 17-9 over American Legion. The Sheriffs Department had a super third inning, picking up nine runs. They also gathered I7 total team hits. American Legion collected nine hits and Tom Lee socked a homer in the first inning. The Lions picked up a victory in the second game of the loser's bracket by defeating the Kiwanis 5-4. The Lions gathered six hits and was led at bat by Followers going 3-3. For the Kiwanis this defeat ended their season. K. Porter hit a homer in the second inning to spice up his Kiwanis team's effort. In thie ninth game of the tournament Hoke Drug beat the Sheriff's Department 6-2. Hoke Drug gathered eight hits and G. Blackshear w as their leading batter with a record of 3-3. For the Sheriffs Department M. McLean picked up a homerun in the third inning and had a score at the plate of 2-3. Hoke Rescue took a win of 8-5 over ihe Lions in the 10th game of the tourney. Hoke Rescue had a good second inning, managing seven runs and Little got a homer in the sixth inning. The Lions picked up four hits for the night and played a tough final season game. In Thursday night's action, NRFD won 13-9 over I Raeford Aviation. NRFD picked Vp eight hits and had a good third inning, pulling in five runs. For Raeford Aviation. K. Morrison was the leading batter going 2-4 at the plate. Hoke Rescue defeated Hoke Drug in a tight battle 12-11 in the 12th round of action. Hoke Rescue gathered 10 hits and J. Pergease led at the plate. 2-3. Hoke Drug picked up nine hits and Quinzell was the leading batter going 3-5. In Friday night's action Hoke Rescue defeated Raeford Aviation 19-b. Hoke Rescue picked up 10 hits and gathered nine runs in the 5th inning. Raeford Aviation played a hard game collecting six hits and K. Sterling led at the plate 2-4. The championship game was won by NRFD 15-4 over Hoke Rescue. NRFD had a super start with homers by Jones. Hollings worth, and McKov. Monroe for NRFD also slammed a homer in the fourth inning. Hoke Rescue picked up homeruns by Lide and Tew. There were four hits for Hoke Rescue. Coach. R. Pergease. J. Little. Tickets On Sale, The Hoke High Athletic Depart ment is again offering season football tickets this year. Tickets are $12 each and buyers are entitled to see five varsity and five junior varsity games. Seats are in the reserved section at mid field and those who pur chlse two or more tickets will receive a special parking permit for the Gibson parking lot. Athletic director John Pecora stid sales of the season-tickets are expected to be brisk. Tickets may be purchased at Howell Drug Co. and Hoke Drug Co. downtown, or may be bought from Booster Club i members. Volleyball Action By Ann Howell The opening round of volleyball last week went to Denise Brown's team over Teresa Freeman's. The match was won by the scores 15-9 and 15-2. Three games were necessary to determine the victory. Deborah McRae and Joe Freeman did a good job of pulling their team on to victory. The second match of the night was picked up by Ken Koonce over Ken MacDonald. Koonce's ream won the first two games 15-0 and 15-3. Joyce McKenzie. Mitchell Sports and David Howell all aided in the success of their team. The final pairing of volleyball went to team two over team one. Ralph Huffs team gathered the match with scores 15-8 and 15-10. George King. Mary M. Sawyer and Donna Kennedy all put up good efforts to secure the win.
