Burlington Earnings Rise Burlington Industries. Inc. re ported record quarterly consoli dated net earnings lor the third quarter ended June 26. 1976 of $31.305,000or SI .12 per share. Net sales tor the period were S580.864. 000. Burlington's previous earnings peak occurred in the March quarter of 1974 with earnings of $1.03 per share. The June results continued the improvement in Burlington's business with per share earnings showing an increase of 32% over the March quarter earnings of 85 cents per share. During the June quarter of 1975. consolidated net sales were $492,769,000 with net earnings of $11,114.000 or 40 cents per share. For the nine months ended June 26, 1976. consolidated net earnings were $76,064,000 or $2.72 per share on 27.976.000 average shares outstanding: net sales totaled $1,686,298,000. For the com parable nine months of 1975 net earnings were $23,871,000 or 86 cents per share on 27.790.000 average shares outstanding and net sales were $1,451,219,000. In commenting on the June quarter's results. Horace C. Jones, chairman, said. "We are pleased with the continuation of Burling Ion's recovery from the low point of March. 1975. All major segments of Burlington's activities contri buted to the record performance. Burlington's apparel products group achieved excellent results with the only areas of weakness being coarse gauge doubleknits and textured yarns. The performance of Burlington's home furnishings business also improved in the quarter as did the industrial products group."
