In District Court Assault Cases Bring Guilty Pleas Judge Joseph Dupiee heard four separate assault cases Frida\ in District Court. Janies Fur man Jacobs. Rt. 4. Box 232, Raeford, was charged with simple assault on Annette Jacobs. He pleaded guilty and was granted a prayer for judgment continuing for three years with the court reserving the right to pass final judgment within that time. He was ordered to pay the costs of court. James H. Leach, Rt. 2. Box 11, Raeford, then pleaded guilty to a charge of simple assault on Lenora Leach and was granted a prayer for judgment continuing for three years. He was ordered to pay court costs. Delores Gomez, Fayetteville, pleaded guilty to assault on Carol Bennefield. She was given a prayer for judgment continuing for three years and required to pay costs of court. Marion Jackson, Lumber Bridge, pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. The court found him not guilty. John Daniel Wilkes, 7 10 Green St., Raeford, pleaded and was found not guilty of a charge of assaulting a female. Larry M. Ball and Ralph E. Steenrod, both inmates at the Sandhills Youth Center, McCain, pleaded guilty to charges of escape and were sentenced to 90 days in jail to run concurrently with the sentences now being served. John S. Rorie, Jr., Laurinburg. brought charges of trespass against Donald Gene Pierce, and Kenneth Wayne Ratley, both of Fayetteville. The men both pleaded guilty to the charges and were given a prayer for judgment continuing for five years and ordered to pay costs. Benjamin Franklin Miday, pleaded guilty to a charge of misdemeanor larceny. He was sentenced to the North Carolina Department of Corrections as a youth offender for not less than one day nor more than two years, suspended for five years. He was ordered to pay the clerk of court S283.10 restitution for Thomas Package Store and costs of court. Robert C. Virgil. Rt. 2, Box 498, Raeford, pleaded guilty to failure to appear on worthless check charges. He was granted a prayer for judgment continuing for five years. On the check charges Virgil pleaded guilty and was required to pay $8 restitution to the A & P and costs, and $4.16 restitution to Raeford Department Store and court costs. Clarence Bratcher, Raeford. pleaded guilty to a worthless check charge brought by Walter Parks. He was sentenced to 30 days, suspended, and ordered to pay S25 restitution and costs. Ernest Donald Owens, Supply, was granted a prayer for judgment continuing for two years after he pleaded guilty to a stop light violation. He also paid costs of court . Ramniklal J. Zota, McCain, pleaded guilty to speeding 65 in a 55 mph zone. He was given a prayer for judgment continuing for two years and paid court costs. John D. Willis, Rt. 3. Box 65 E, Raeford, pleaded not guilty to a stop sign violation and was found guilty as charged, sentenced to jail for 10 days, suspended, and ordered to pay court costs. Horace Jacobs. Red Springs, was sentenced to jail for 30 days, suspended, and fined SI5 after he pleaded guilty to speeding 70 in a 55 mph zone. Joe Harris, Lumber Bridge, pleaded guilty to displaying a fictitious license plate and to lack of financial responsibility required of an owner of a motor vehicle. . The following cases were given voluntary dismissals: John Dunk Leach, Raeford. assault with a deadly weapon; Marie Annette Crawford. Rt. I. Raeford, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to inflict serious injury; Ricky Collins, 411 E. Edinborough Ave., Kaetord. indecent exposure; Richard Bratcher. P.O. Box 475, Raeford, driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and driving without a license; Jesse Davis, Jr., Aberdeen, DUI. Got A Traffic Ticket? Workers Attend Water Sehool Larry Beasley and Jerry Jackson of Raeford attended the 37th annual Water Works Operator's School held last week in Raleigh. The purpose of the school is to improve the general level of water plant operation in North Carolina. Operators who attend this school and pass the examination meet the certification law of the state. Under the sponsorship of the North Carolina League of Munici palities and the State of North Carolina Department of Human Resources ? Health Services Divi sion. the school is conducted by the North Carolina State University School of Engineering and the Division of Continuing Education. The Veterans Administration employs 31 of the nation's 2<>2 recipients of the Medal of Honor. MARIJUANA SEIZURE? Raeford police detective C.E. Campbell displays Jive marijuana plants seized just outside the city limits Monday by sheriffs deputy D.D. Brock. The plants, ranging in height up 7b II1/ 2 feet, had an estimated street value of several thousand dollars. No arrests have been made.
