In Probation
Three local young men were
brought before Judge Joseph Du
pree Friday in District Court on
charges of damage to real property
in the city.
Carlos Wendell Goodman Jr..
age 19, of Rt. 4, Box 165, Raeford,
pleaded guilty to charges of shoot
ing a plate glass window with a BB
pistol in the Western Auto Store on
Main St., causing $100 damage; a
plate glass window in the Raeford
Cleaners, Main St., causing $100
damage; a window in the Mc
Lauchlin Co., Inc., Main St..
causing $100 damage; a window in
The Bank of Raeford, Main St.,
causing $168.97 damage; and. a
plate glass window in the W.T.
Gibson School Library, causing
$200 damage. Goodman was sen
tenced to a term of not less than
one day nor more than two years as
a youthful offender committed to
the custody of the Commissioner of
the N.C. Department of Correc
tion. The sentence was suspended
for three and one half years with
probation for the same term grant
ed on the conditions that Goodman
pay $80 restitution for the Hoke
County Board of Education, $40
for Raeford Cleaners, $40 for
McLauchlin Co., Inc., $68 for The
Bank of Raeford. and $40 for
Western Auto Store. He was also
required to pay court costs.
Also charged with shooting the
windows was Wilbur Thaddeus
Marks. Jr.. age 18. of 108 College
Dr. Marks also pleaded guilty to
the charges and was sentenced as a
youthful offender to not less than
one day nor more than two years.
The sentence was suspended and
Marks was placed on probation for
three and one half years on the
conditions that he pay court costs
and make restitution of $120 to the
Board of Education. $60 for the
Raeford Cleaners, $60 to Mc
Lauchlin Co, Inc., $101 for The
Bank of Raeford. and $60 for
Western Auto.
Also charged with malicious
injury to real property was Law
rence William Holland. 18. of 304
Harris Ave., Raeford, who pleaded
guilty to throwing a soft drink
bottle into a gas pump at Raeford
Oil Co.. causing $185 damage, and
cutting a truck tire with a knife
causing $70 damage. The tire was
the property of The Bank of
Raeford. Holland was sentenced as
a youthful offender to not less than
one day nor more than two years.
Holland also faced charges of
misdemeanor breaking, entering
and larceny. He pleaded guilty to
breaking and entering the Kash
and Karrv Market on S. Main St..
and carrying away two six-packs of
beer and one carton of cigarettes
valued at $7.50. He was sentenced
to not less than one day nor more
than two years with this sentence
beginning at the expiration of the
previously imposed sentence.
Terrell Hires. Parkton. was
bound over to the Superior Court
for action by the grand jury after he
pleaded not guilty to assault with a
deadly weapon with intent to kill or
inflict serious injury. He is accused
ot shooting Laverne Melvin with a
.22 caliber pistol inflicting serious
wounds and causing Melvin to be
hospitalized. Hines also faced the
court on a bill of particulars in
which he was found to have failed
to comply with a March 14. 1975
iudament that ordered him to pay
S50 weekly for the support of his
children. With payments in excess
of $1,000 in arrears, Hines' 60 day
suspended sentence was activated.
The defendent gave notice of
indall James Mintz, Rt. 2,
Raeford, pleaded not guilty to
charges of nonsupport and assault
on a female brought by Connie Lou
Mintz, Fayetteville. He was found
not guilty on both charges and the
prosecuting witness was ordered to
pay court costs for frivilous and
malicious prosecution.
Connie Lou Mintz. Fayetteville.
then pleaded not guilty to a charge
of assault with a deadly weapon
brought by Randall Mintz. She was
found not guilty and Mr. Mintz was
ordered to pay costs for frivilous
and malicious prosecution.
Rhonda Lynn Mintz, Fayette
ville. was named in a simple assault
warrant taken out by David Rol
dan, Rt. 2, Raeford, who claimed
she struck him in the head with an
ashtray. She was found not guilty
and Roldan was ordered to pay
costs for frivilous and malicious
prosecution.
Lacy Lennell Shaw. Rt. I, Lum
ber Bridge, pleaded guilty to a
charge of shoplifting a package of
candy, a cigarette lighter, an
American flag patch, and three
packages of cough drops valued at
S3. 51 from the Little Giant Store
on Central Ave. He was sentenced
to six months in jail, suspended for
five years. He was ordered to pay a
S50 tine plus court costs and not be
convicted of shoplifting larceny,
embezzlement, fraud or passing
worthless checks during the next
five years.
Robert Blue. P.O. Box 52.
Raeford, pleaded guilty to mis
demeanor assault with a deadly
weapon and was given a prayer for
judgment continued until Feb. 4.
1977. at which time the probation
officer is directed to have a full
report of accrued bills resulting
from the alleged assault on Eldred
Blue. Blue sustained a wound in his
left side from a .32 caliber pistol.
William Lambeth. Sandhills
Youth Center, pleaded guilty to
escape and was sentenced to 90
days in jail to begin at the
expiration of the sentence the
defendant is currently serving on a
misdemeanor larceny charge.
Durant McGregor, age 16. or Rt.
1 . Raeford. was found not guilty of
the larceny of 50 gallons of
kerosene belonging to Barbara Ann
McLean and valued at $21.50.
Charles Ray Bass. Lumberton,
pleaded not guilty to charges of
driving while his license was per
manently revoked, while under the
influence of intoxicating liquor,
(fifth offense), carrying a concealed
weapon and transporting an open
container of alcoholic beverage in
the passenger area of a motor
vehicle. He was found guilty on all
charges and sentenced to 18
months in jail. Bass gave notice of
appeal.
Basil Fred Boyles, 316 Jackson.
Raetord. pleaded guilty to a charge
of DUI and was sentenced to 90
days in jail, suspended for 12
months, and ordered not to drive
except as set out in a special driving
privilege for the next 12 months.
He was fined $150 plus court costs.
A charge of reckless driving was
dismissed.

day suspended sentence after he
pleaded guilty to DUI. He was
ordered not to drive except as set
out in a limited driving privilege
during the 12 month suspension
period. White was fined $150 plus
court costs.
Regina Locklear Colson, Rt. 1.
Red Springs, was committed to
quarters for women prisoners for
six months, suspended for 12
months, and fined $150 plus costs
after she pleaded guilty to DUI.
Colson was also ordered to sur
render her license for the 12 month
period and ordered not to drive
except as set out in a limited
driving privilege.
Joseph Earl Campbell. General
Delivery. Raeford, pleaded guilty
to DUI and was sentenced to 90
days, suspended and placed on
probation for twelve months. He
was ordered to surrender his license
for 12 months and granted a
limited driving privilege for that
period. Campbell was fined $150
plus court costs.
Tiffney Lerue Bullard, Rt. 1,
Box 786, Shannon, pleaded guilty
to DUI and received a 90 day
suspended sentence. He was placed
on probation for 12 months and
ordered not to drive except as set
out in a limited driving privilege.
He was fined $150 and costs of
action.
Jackie McEachin, Laurinburg,
was sentenced to 90 days in jail,
suspended for 12 months, and
ordered to surrender his license to
the clerk of court for the suspension
period, after he pleaded guilty to
DUI. McEachin was granted a
limited driving privilege and fined
$150 plus costs.
Alonzo Lee Harrington, Rock
ingham, was sentenced to 12
months in jail after he pleaded
guilty to DUI, third offense, and
illegal passing. He gave notice of
appeal.
Thomas Arthur Medlin, Elgin,
S.C.. pleaded guilty to DUI and
was sentenced to 90 days in jail,
suspended for 12 months, ordered
not to drive for 12 months, and
fined $150 plus costs.
John Washington Cain Jr., Rt. 1,
Box 297. Raeford. pleaded guilty to
DUI, DWLR, no registration and
no insurance. He was sentenced to
18 months in jail. Cain gave notice
of appeal.
Robert Lee Taylor. Washington,
D.C., pleaded guilty to displaying a
cancelled number plate and to
speeding 80 in a 55 MPH zone and
was sentenced to 60 days in jail,
suspended, and fined $50 plus
costs. A DUI charge against Taylor
was dismissed.
Juanita Scott Oldham. Rt. 1.
Box 306 C, Shannon, pleaded
guilty to speeding 68 in a 55 MPH
zone. She was fined $5 and costs of
action.
Barry King. Rt. 3. Box 101,
Raeford, pleaded guilty to impro
per equipment and was ordered to
pay court costs.
Tonnie Richardson, Rt. 1. Box
18. Raeford. was sentenced to 60
days in jail, suspended, and fined
$25 plus costs after he pleaded
guilty to possessing a registration
number plate knowing the same to
be revoked, and displaying a
registration number plate other
then the one issued.
Michael Sparks Sylvester, Pine
hurst. was given a prayer for
judgment continued upon payment
of costs after he pleaded guilty to
exceeding a safe speed.
Jean Carter Guyton. Fayetteville.
paid court costs after she pleaded
guilty to exceeding a safe speed.
Carolyn Graham VanHoy, Red
Springs, pleaded guilty to reckless
driving and was fined $25 plus
court costs.
Chester Paul Robinson, Rt. 2,
Box 289. Raeford, pleaded guilty to
DWLR and was given a prayer for
judgment continued for two years
with court reserving the right to
pass final judgment within two
years. He paid court costs.
Azzie Mack Goff, Red Springs,
pleaded guilty to failure to comply
with license restriction code requir
ing that she wear glasses to drive.
She was fined $25, which for good
cause shown was remitted, she paid
costs of action.
John Harvey Davis. Jr.. Gibson,
paid costs of action after he
pleaded guilty to driving with a
dealer license plate without a valid
96 hour permit.
Henry Eric Rother, Rt. 2. Lot 1,
Raeford, pleaded guilty to failure
to report a collision to the local
police. He was sentenced to 60 days
in jail, suspended on the condition
that he pay a fine of $25 plus court
costs.
Ronald Glenn Turner, 403 N.
Wright St.. Raeford, was found not
guilty of an illegal passing viola
tion.
Sharon Kay Brown, Fayetteville,
was found not guilty of an illegal
passing charge.
Linda Gooding Evans, 620 E.
Donaldson St., Raeford, pleaded
guilty to speeding 70 in a 55 MPH
zone. She was sentenced to ten days
in jail, suspended on the condition
that she pay a $15 fine plus costs.
Vicki D. Pruitt, Rt. 1, Box 180,
Red Springs, pleaded guilty to
three counts of passing worthless
checks. She was sentenced to six
months in quarters provided for
women prisoners, suspended for
two years, and ordered to pay
$144.41 restitution for Cross Roads
Grocery and pay court costs.
James E. Henagen, P.O. Box
339, Raeford, pleaded guilty to
passing a worthless check in the
amount of $1 19 to Raeford Depart
ment Store. He was sentenced to 90
days in jail. In a second worthless
check charge, Henagen pleaded
guilty to passing a worthless check
in the amount of $58.54 to Kenneth
Parks and was sentenced to 60 days
in jail to begin at the expiration of
the previous sentence.
Earl G. Grove, Fayetteville,
pleaded guilty to passing a $187.90
worthless check to the Credit
Bureau of Raeford. He was sen
tenced to 90 days, suspended on the
condition he made restitution and
pay court costs.

John D. Gillis of Fayetteville has
just returned from Columbia, S.C.,
where he attended a Field Crop
Advisory Council meeting spon
sored bv The Federal Land Bank of
Columbia in cooperation with Fed
eral Land Bank Associations
throughout North Carolina, South
Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
The purpose of the meeting was
to explore ways to improve the
financing of farmers. The meeting
provided a forum for participants
to contribute their ideas for
progress. Leading producers, state
university representatives and other
agricultural leaders from North
Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia
and Florida participated in the
meeting.
During 1976 the 46 Federal Land
Bank Associations in the four state
area served 63,000 farmers with
more than S2.4 billion in loans
outstanding. The Lumberton As
sociation at present has approxi
mately 2,000 loans with approxi
mately $50 million in loans out
standing. Cumberland and Hoke
counties are served by the branch
office located in Fayetteville by
