Mrs. Steve Phillips, Social Reporter. 875-4171 'Woman's Club To Hold Art Festival The Raeford Woman's Club will hold an Art Festival on January 17. Clubwomen with craft or art items should register entries at the Civic Center on January 17, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Miss Barnes, Mr. Davis Honored Miss Jane Barnes and Jeff Davis were honored with a buffet dinner Sunday evening, January 9, at the home of Dr. and Mrs. R.G. Townsend. Hosting the occasion were Dr. and Mrs. Townsend, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Brown, and Mr. and Mrs. Bobbv Gibson. ?? Candles and pine arrangements were used throughout the house. The honored couple was presented a gift from the hosts. ?? Leach, Mrs. Hank Richards, and Mrs. Avery Connell, on Thursday evening of last week. Pie and Russian tea were served when guests arrived, and Cokes were served during progressions. Club high was won by Mrs. John Pecora, visitor high, Mrs. Leach, and bingo, Mrs. Bill Niven. - The club members had a miscel laneous bridal shower for Miss Jane Barnes, bride-elect of this month. Mrs. McMillan Celebrates 91 st Birthday Mrs. Minnie McMillan, who celebrated her 91st birthday Mon day, was given a surprise birthday party at the home of her daughter, Rita Baker, in Raeford. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Turner of Route 4, Fayetteville, announce the birth of a daughter, Mary Jane Stewart, on December 30, 1976. She bears the name of her maternal great-great-great grandmother, Mary Jane Stewart Atkins (1814 1901) of Aversboro, Cumberland County. The former Mary Jane Stewart Gillis. Mrs. Turner is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John McNatt Gillis of Route 3, Fayetteville. and a granddaughter of Mrs. Malcolm Dobbin Gillis, Sr. of Route 4, Fayetteville. Mr. Turner is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Turner of Fairfield, California. Mrs. J.T. Smith of Chester, S.C. is visiting with her daughter and family. Places were laid for twenty-four guests at the dining table and four small tables, which were centered with white chrysanthemums. A three - course meal was served. Campbell College Hosts Tax Seminar Some sixty professionals respon sible for giving advice to taxpayers attended a day-long tax institute at Campbell College on implications of the Tax Reform Act of 1976. Attending from the Raeford area was Charles A. Hostetler. The institute was one of many scheduled across the country by centers equipped to give this service in response to the complexities of the new law. It involves over 200 important changes and is requiring major taxpayers and their advisers to overhaul their estate-planning procedures. Theresa's ! EHC ACCOMPLISHMENTS At the beginning of a new year it is good to look at the year just ending. This is exactly what Hoke Extension Homemakers did at their January County Council Meeting on the 4th. Following is a list of their 1976 accomplishments. 1. Hoke County Seal was em broidered, framed and hung in the Assembly Room in the New County Office Building. 2. Members helped with Bicen tennial Program of Yesteryears. 3. Scholarship was given to Hoke High senior. 4. Helped with classes in summer youth program. 5. Made 25 duffle bags for Woman's Club camper program. 6. Prepared educational exhibit for N.C. State Fair. 7. Conducted Tour for 38 per sons to State Fair. 8. Conducted Tour of historical Cumberland County. 9. Three from Hoke County taught at South Central District Craft Workshop. 10. Assisted with United Fund Drive. 11. Cooperated with Music Booster Club Bazaar & Bake Sale. 12. Made 500 fabric bookmarks for Library. 13. Prepared cookies for Library Open House. 14. Sponsored showing of draw ings for Bicentennial Book. 15. Tote bags for wheel chairs and walkers were made for patients at Open Arms Rest Home. 16. Draperies were given to Sandhills Youth Center. College News Cissy Moses is among the 76 Peace College students, or 14 per cent of the student body, who were named to the dean's list for the fall semester. Miss Moses is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William L. Moses of 209 W. Prospect Avenue. To be eligible for the dean's list, students must maintain grade point averages of 3.3 out of a possible 4.0 as full-time students. Sandy Crawley, a senior at Pembroke State University, was named to the dean's list with a 3.8 grade point average while taking 21 semester hours during the fall term.
