The previous winter peak was 4,974.000 kw which occurred Dec. 21. 1976. CP&L pointed out that sustained sub-freezing temperatures were responsible for the surge in usage. As a result, the company said, customers should be particularly conscious in conservation during the next lew weeks since increased winter usage and a higher anticipated fuel charge in North Carolina will cause substantial increases in February electric bills. The company advised using less hot water and setting back heating thermostats as ways of conserving electricity. STORE HOURS: 9 a.m. til 5:30 p.m. Fri. open until 6 p.m. 114 N. MAIN ST. RAEFORD, N.
