The Raeford area received 4.9 inches of precipitation during January, most of it coming in the first half of the month as seen by this chart. The amount was about average compared to the last three years. In 1976 it was 4.4 inches, in 1975 it was 6.8 and in 1974 it was 4.6. In Superior Court Man Draws 2 Year T erm Superior Court Judge A. Pilston Godwin, Jr., handed down a two year jail sentence to Monroe Alexander McLean during Friday's court session. McLean, Rt. 2, Box 12 A, Raeford, pleaded not guilty to a ? charge of misdemeanor receiving of S500 worth of stolen property. The jury found him guilty of receiving a riding lawn mower which belonged to James Scott. Roscoe Daniel McMillian, Rt. 1, Box 832, Raeford, pleaded guilty to driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor, second offense, and received a six month jail term and was ordered to pay S350 plus court costs. Harry Locklear, Sandhill Youth Center, pleaded guilty to felonious escape and was sentenced to six months in the custody as a "committed youthful offender". The sentence will begin at the expiration of all previous sentences. He is currently serving time on a larceny charge. Richard Dowless, Sandhill Youth Center, also pleaded guilty to felonious escape and received a six month sentence scheduled to begin at the expiration of all previous sentences. Dowless is serving time for three charges of breaking and entering and two charges of larceny. David Franklin McNair, Rt. 3, Box 1 12 A, Raeford, pleaded guilty to speeding 55 in a 66 MPH zone and was sentenced to ten days in jail. The sentence was suspended on the condition that the defendant pay one half of the court costs plus a fine of S10. Clinton Clark, Rt. 1, Box 64 G, Red Springs, entered a plea of guilty to the charge of uttering a forged a check and was given a prayer for judgment continued until the April term of Superior Court for Hoke County with the case calendared for entry of judgment. PAGEANT FINALIST -- Dehbie Minshew of Raeford is a finalist in the Miss North Carolina Teen-ager Pageant and will compete with contestants from all over the state March 12 in Raleigh. The 16 year-old Hoke High student has already won four beauty contests in the past year. Raeford Girl A Finalist In State Pageant Debbie Minshew, 16. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D.L. Minshew of College Drive, has been selected a finalist in the 6th Annual Miss North Carolina Teen-ager Pageant to be held at Raleigh Memorial Auditorium March 12. The host hotel is the Holiday Inn Downtown where contestants will be -housed Mar. 11-13. The Miss North Carolina Teen-ager Pageant is the official state finals to the Miss National Teen-ager Pageant to be held in Atlanta in August. Angela Adams of Greensboro is the reign ing Miss North Carolina Teen-ager. ? There will be contestants from all over the state competing for the title of Miss North Carolina Teen ager. Trophies at the state level will be awarded to the top five contestants three speech winners. Miss Con geniality, Miss Photogenic and the Citizenship winner. Reigning Miss National Teen ager Kellie Thompson of Bountiful. Utah, will be a special guest at the Miss North Carolina Teen-ager Pageant. Miss Minshew is being sponsored by radio station WSHB. She is a 11th grade student at Hoke High School and her interests include Modeling, singing, sewing, cooking and art. She was Miss EKOH and Miss Football for the 1975-76 school year. Last year she was crowned Miss Cape Fear Fair and Miss Carolina Holiday Queen. Raymond Jones RFD 2, Box 26 A, Raeford, appeared before the court charged with assault with intent to commit rape and kidnap ping. At the close of the state's evidence a judgment of non-suit was granted on the charge of assault with intent to commit rape and kidnapping. The case was submitted to the jury on the charge of assault on a female and false imprisonment. The jury returned a verdict of not guilty. James McCrimmon, Rt. 1, Rae ford, was found not guilty by a jury of charges of unlawful breaking or entering a dwelling house and willful damage to real property. A charge of abandonment and nonsupport of an illegitimate child against Jerry William, Rt. 1, Box 537, Raeford, was dismissed by the prosecutor. Precinct Meetings Set Feb. 10 The democratic party in Hoke County will hold precinct meetings for the election of new precinct officers and precinct committee members on Feb. 10 at 8 p.m., county chairman Sam C. Morris announced. The meetings will convene at the polling places of each precinct. The officers of the precinct committees will be a chairman, three vice - chairmen and a secretary - treasurer. Terms of office of the officers and members of the committees are two years. Rules require that no two officers of a precinct committee be from the same immediate family. Delegates to the county conven tion on Saturday, March 19 will also be elected at the precinct meetings. Under the formula of one delegate for each 50 gubernatorial votes cast in the last general election, the county's 13 precincts will have the following number of delegates: Allendale (2), Antioch (5), Blue Springs (5), Buchan (3), McCain (4), Puppy Creek (4), Raeford One (10), Raeford Two (7), Raeford Three (4), Raeford Four (7), Raeford Five (8), Rockfish (3) and Stonewall (5). The same formula will apply to the number of votes each precinct is allowed whenever the county executive committee meets. In the event a quorum (10 votes) is not present for any precinct meeting on Feb. 10 a second meeting will be held one week later.
