Bucks Win One, Lose One The Hoke High Varsity Bucks ^ wrapped up this week's play with a third loss to Lumberton, 64 - 44, and a conference win against Richmond County, 72 - 59. (The Lumberton team made a run away out of a close ballgame during the last Quarter of play in the Hoke gym Friday. According to Buck's Coach Rodney Johnson, "We felt we had control of the tempo first half." First quarter score was 13 - 10 Lumberton, and second quarter ended with 28 - 22 Lumberton. "For about a four minute stretch we collapsed," Johnson said," and they scored easy baskets just blowing us out of the gym." Lumberton player Larry Gore playing from the outside scored a total of 28 points against Hoke, and was instrumental in obtaining the : third quarter lead 44 - 33, and the final score of 66 - 44. Disappointed in this conference loss, Johnson expressed a great satisfaction in the performance of some of his younger players. "Those boys did not start, but they played a lot and played well. And, I think these young kids learned from their mistakes. I'm expecting to see some good action from them next year," he said. Johnson called the Lumberton ** team a very patient, well coached team. "We just got too impatient to score and lost control," he added. Scoring broke down like this: Brown, 14; Morrison, 12; Black, 4; Thompson, 8; Carpenter, 2; and Cobb, 4. The 72-59 victory over Richmond County Feb. 1 was "something we've been waiting for since Christmas", Johnson said. De fensively the team did a real fine job." The Richmond competition, also played here, produced the best balanced score of the year: Marcus Brown 12; Vernon Morrison, 12; Lady Eagles Victorious The Lady Eagles defeated Wicker 44 - 25 in Wednesday's action to compete a 9 - 1 season. C. Love led the Eagles' attack with 18 points, A. Thomas had nine, D. Love seven, C. Black and M. Haynesfour, and J. Blackshear scored two points. S. Womble led the Tigers with seven points. The Eagles went in a halftime with a 17 - 16 edge after trailing 4 - 7 after the first quarter. The Tigers were held scoreless in the third period while the Eagles compiled 1 1 points. The Eagles kept up the attack to outscore Wicker 16 - 9 in the final period of play to conclude the 44 - 25 victory. Deputies Promoted Deputy A.S.
